Kabardino-Balkaria is in the western part of the Caucasus where Putin had hoped to expand tourism (skiing at Mt. Elbrus, anyone?) as a way of improving the economy and undercutting the appeal of the radicals. As the time of the Sochi Olympics approaches, the terrorists hope to make it impossible for the Russians to guarantee security for the foreign visitors Putin is hoping will flood the region. The terrorists/freedom fighters don't have to defeat the Russian security forces to win, all they have to do is to keep the situation unstable to undercut Putin's reputation for ruthless efficiency (deserved or not).

As a result of increased western aggression against Syria and support to their Al-Quaeda head-chopping mercenaries, Russia recently responded by sending a military naval armada from three bases,Severomorsk/white sea,Baltysk/Baltic Sea and black sea/Sevastopol (battle cruiser Moskva, a destroyer and three large landing ships already there).

A massive amount of fire power indeed. USA,true to their cowardice nature, consequently moved their war fleet back, beyond Italy and toned down some of their warmongering rhetoric. THAT´s Realpolitik, in a language the western regimes understands perfectly well (as they did in Georgia).

Now, Russia should respond in kind to west´s support to Al-Qaueda terrorists in Russia by arming terrorist within some western regimes.
