1999, "cold blooded murder".
(Serbian Mendo, 2 December 2012 00:01)
==========================

Sorry, I didn't realise that you were a Serbian Mendo. I'll take you at your word.
Right is right and wrong is wrong. So what do you think should happen to Israel? Do you know or even care that the Arabs are wanting to wipe Israel off the map? Do you think that genocide is OK because that's exactly what they are talking about? Who do you think lived on that land thousands of years ago?
Do you know that Serbs have shared the same fate as the Jews in WW2 and are on the same hit list as the Jews even today?
Do you think that what Palestinians did to Lebanon is OK? Read a book titles "Because they hate" by Brigitte Gabrielle. It will all become clear what Palestinians are all about.
How about you read what Pamela Geller on Atlasshrugs says? What about Robert Spencer on Jihad watch? Go to both sites and investigate a little and see who is doing what.
Do you think that what Serbia did is going to help the Serbs?

Lasse Riise

pre 11 godina

Hasty and unconditional support to Palestinian statehood in this case will logically undermine the Serbs claims in Kosovo i Metohija. This will be the effect on the Kosovo Serbs position, independent of wheter one is agains or pro-Palestina.
There is a significant difference between how this action of the political elite in Belgrade will be viewed by the divided southern-slavic peoples and how this will be interped in the rest of the world, including in nations friendly to the Serbians, like Russia, China, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Slovakia, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Montenegro the RS etc. The risk of the actions of the political elite in Belgrade beeing understood as formally undermining the argument of respecting borders have dramatically increased.
Make no mistake about it. I'm Pro-Serbia. This is why the way the political class in Belgrade choosed to mindelessly deal with the question of respect for recognized borders in the middle east upsets me. If it had been any other capital dealing with the Middle-East problem in this way, there would have been no problem. It would have been better if Sofia had voted Yes to the Palestinians and Belgrade abstained, for the case of Serbia.

Hopefully you would support an independent Scotland too should the Scots decide to bolt your UK. And even it it means England has to lose its UNSC seat or, worse still, reapply for UN entry -- read: gleeful veto thoughts in the minds of Russia and China!

Oh Peggy give me a break! I am Serbian Mendo, not Albanian Mendo. I am real Serb, but I don't support what Israel is doing to Palestinians. I don't support Fatah or Hamas, just ordinary citizens like I am. And yes both Albanians and Israelis have been spoiled children of US for very long time. Who gives the right for Israel to murder civilians? I still remember Israel's comments about Rachak hoax in 1999, "cold blooded murder".

The Jews were ALWAYS on that land. Think about it. Was Jesus a Jew and where did he come from?
So who were the Jews back then? Were they Palestinians?

Ian, ignorant can also mean something else, polite way not to say stronger word. One of my American friends is using it a lot (I do have American friends too not only Russian ones ;-).

Pacoli is reach guy and it does not take that much to bribe officials of some of the African countries. 10 000 $?

Russia does not care about Serbia, never did, just looking its own interest. Why would Russia build power plant in Bangladesh in order that Bangladesh does not recognize Kosovo? Also, lobbying that Venezuela does not recognize Kosovo? Why Venezuela would recognize Kosovo? They hate US puppet states as much as US. Including UK and they support Argentina when it comes to Islas Malvinas, me too.

Ian, UK

(Kurd, 1 December 2012 13:18)

"You know that well it just show how ignorant you are"

That sentence contradicts itself. The word ignorant means not knowing something, however you also said "You know that well".

So what if Serbia was pressured by EU countries?

Yes the US and the UK as well as other diplomats have been lobbying, but that is what diplomats do; push their agendas. Russian and Serbian diplomats have also been doing the same. Not all of them 35 countries were "small", there was a lot of large African countries as well as other average size countries.

And yes Paccolli must be in Billions and Billions of debt because he has apparently bribed 40+ countries at least... supposedly.

Russia is the one which openly bribes countries. And builds things like Powerplants in Bangladesh to stop them from recognising Kosovo and in 2010 when PNG was about to recognise Kosovo, Russia came along and signed a massive arms deal with PNG at a very cheap rate. But that only stopped PNG from recognising Kosovo temporarily. Russia has been making threats to countries like South Sudan, telling them that they'll block them from joining organisations if the recognise Kosovo. And telling countries like Paraguay that they'll stop all importations of Paraguayan meat to Russia if they recognise Kosovo. And I need not mention Russia's open bribing of Nauru and Venezuela.

And yes I too support an independent Kurdistan.

(John, 1 December 2012 12:32)

John, Palestinians have more right than Jews to be there. Land was taken from them to create Israel (same like Kosovo taken from us to create second Albanian state). And do you know why, because nobody wanted Jews as refugees. They were basically dumped there on Palestine's land. Same like US wanted to put Kosovo's Albanians refugees to Guantanamo Bay in 1999, not on mainland US. Same thing with Kosovo, nobody wants Albanians in their country as refugees. BTW, nobody dumped Serbs to Kosovo, they were always there. Albanians pretend they are Illyrians (I am Serbian and have more Illyrians genes than any Albanian) and they think of themselves as they are Israelis (Illyrians been in Kosovo before Romans like Jews in Palestine) and we Serbs think of Serbia as Palestine (Kosovo taken from us forcefully). I am proud that Vuk Jeremic helped with this vote. Remember just month ago Vuk Jeremic's great grandfather and great grandmother (both of them were Bosnian Muslims) got a posthumous honor from Israel for saving Sephardi Jews during world war two in Bosnia.

It was only Serbia from former Yugoslavia which voted for Palestine, we did not abstained like some shameful US puppet states. I am very disappointed that Bosnia abstained from the vote.

Well done Serbia!

Although Serbia voted against U.S. rather than pro Palestine again well done.

I wish Albania voted pro Palestine, but politicians in Tirana are way too obedient to think with their head. The martyr Palestine deserves much more.

Palestine is bullied for over 60 years now and the west is ignoring her suffereings. However, the time is in Palestinian side. The old generation of western polticians is changing gradually, the societies in west are changenging and do not think that they shoudl punish Palestine for the Hitler's crimes.

Freedom for Palestinians. Freedom for Israel. Live in peace and mutual respect. Israel is not western invention it has always existed in the hearts of milions of people. Respect the right of existence to Israel and Israel must resepect the right of existence to Palestine. Peace.

Ian, Serbia was threatened not to take Kosovo issue to UN General assembly. You know that well it just show how ignorant you are! They have maybe 35 recognitions since then because America and UK are pushing those small countries to recognize Kosovo. In some cases officials of those countries were bribed by rich Albanians in order to recognize Kosovo as independent state. Lets bring next Kurd question to UN General Assembly. Kurds deserve to have at least one state, more than Albanians to have two. Stop slaughtering of Kurds by Turkish state! Free Kurdistan!

The Serbian government and political elite in Serbia have by this opened up the pandoras box and made the Albanians claim to Kosovo i Metohija legitimate. It will come back to haunt the Serbs like a boomerang. But maybe this was the plan of the political class in Belgrade all along, to prepare for the Serb politicians recognition of an Albanian Kosovo, sucking up to Brussels to smooth the way for Serbia to be absorbed by the EU-reich.

Magnus

How can any mamber of this government look in the mirror, or into Srebian citizens' eyes, and say that Kosovo is an issue anymore..?

Serbia has just helped in creating the precedent, which Pristina will use for getting more and more recognitions!

And come on, Mr. Jeremic can kiss up to his NAM friends as much as he wishes, but the lame explenation about how the Kosovo UDI has nothing to do with the Palestinian UDI - is a real insult for the ordinary Serb.

Thanks to his hard and impressive work for Palestine, Mr. Jeremic might lead another "historic session" sometime soon..

As a supporter of Israel, I hope they grow up and start being serious about peace. I fear that the US won't let them, the US at least equally responsible for the situation there and their petty domestic politics. Spineless behavior all around. They had the opportunity to be serious in the 1990s but they blew it away arrogantly and the world has turned. The longer Israel refuses to deal with this in a mature manner, the less influence it will have.

A couple weeks after Kosovo declared independence Albania tried to pass a resolution that would have recognized Kosovo by all the OIC members. The resolution was blocked by Palestine,Mubarak,Gedafi ,Ahmedinajad and Assad. If we wanted to turn Palestine the favor yesterday we would have voted against but we chose to abstain.
Now talking about hypocrisy.Serbia has been claiming for years that territorial conflicts should not be solved by unilateral moves. But when the territorial conflict involves other countries in a different part of the world "screw them" and vote pro the unilateral move. It is not like serbia had any credibility before to begin with, but still.

All parallels with Kosovo are wrong.

Regardless of the Serbian government's motives (something tells me it was not the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people), it was the right thing to do. Anything that brings two conflicting parties to a more equal standing during negotiations is OK for me. Palestinians deserve to be represented in the world arena and have their voice heard. Not sure how helpful this will be on the ground but hopefully, this will at least empower Abbas and his line against that of Hamas in the eyes of the Palestinian people. I wish Albania had voted in favor too instead of abstaining and taking the position of several western European countries.

One of those steps where we clearly see how stupid and short-thought the Serbian political class is. What exactly Serbia achieved with this? At best, nothing! It was already clear that the Palestinians will win this voting. Abstaining would be the logical step, without compromising either sides. But no, Serbia as the only post-SFRY country voted in favor and embarrassed herself. Israel did not (yet) recognize Kosovo, but has all the motivation to do so. Not mentioning the constant lie that Serbia fights against Islamism.

"Now Palestine can take Israel to the ICC if Israel commits any War Crimes in the future, it will make Israel think twice now when using military action against Palestinian civilians.
(Ian, UK, 30 November 2012 14:42) "

And Israel can take Palestine to the same court now if its "forces" kidnap Israeli citizens or lob rockets onto its towns and cities. Or if it sends suicide bombers to attack buses and the like.

As for why this vote was a bad idea, the Palestinians have never never given up on their stated goal of destroying Israel, hardly a proper sentiment for an entity asking to join the UN. Have any other states been allowed to join under similar circumstances?

The Israeli newspapers have run articles and editorials for some time now asking why their government supports Serbia against the Albanians of Kosovo, considering that Albania had played such a helpful role in protecting Jews during WWII, not only its own but those lucky enough to find their way into the country. At an Israeli-U.S. solidarity meeting yesterday in Washington various members of Congress (you'll remember Senator Schumer (D-NY)- from the Miladin Kovacevich case) told reporters afterward it was definitely time for the U.S. to start lobbying Israel to recognize Kosovo. It would be poetic justice for Israel to announce the 97th recognition needed for Kosovo to gain the same status as was given Palestine yesterday, although having a few votes to spare before going for the GA vote is good tactics.

Yes, that's nonsense. The only thing the US has prevented is Pristina attempting to apply for UN membership - this would eventually fail, latest due to veto of the UNSC permanent members Russia and China, just like it failed for Palestine last year.

I agree, an observer status Kosovo could achieve when it comes to a voting in the UNGA - probably with less positve votes than Palestine, though.

But that only stopped PNG from recognising Kosovo temporarily. Russia has been making threats to countries like South Sudan, telling them that they'll block them from joining organisations if the recognise Kosovo.

Kosovo would also get a majority in the UNGA. All that is needed is over 50% of the votes. Kosovo currently has 96/193 recognitions from UN members. And when Kosovo does the same, how many non-recognising countries will abstain and rule themsleves out of the vote? Or to word it better, how many non-recognising countries would actually vote against Kosovo and not abstain? 30-40 max probably. Ya sure. And I suppose the Israeli aircrafts also didn't participate in the 1999 gangland military bombardment of Serbia? But I wouldn't worry too much about any impending recognition of Pristina by Tel Aviv ..... methinks it is precisely the idea of a Palestinian state becoming a reality that is making them cringe about recognizing "Kosova". The same reason, as I see it, the Chinese support Serbia diplomatically over Kosovo because of Taiwan and Tibet.

It was already clear that the Palestinians will win this voting. Abstaining would be the logical step, without compromising either sides. But no, Serbia as the only post-SFRY country voted in favor and embarrassed herself. Israel did not (yet) recognize Kosovo, but has all the motivation to do so.

The Jews came to Palestine and killed off or expelled the local Palestinians and then claimed that land theirs and independant. This is exactly what the Albanians did in Kosovo so good job Serbia you voted right!

There is no comparison.
The Jews were ALWAYS on that land. Think about it. Was Jesus a Jew and where did he come from?
So who were the Jews back then? Were they Palestinians?

You Serbian? Sure, just like I am Albanian.
(Peggy, 1 December 2012 23:09)

Oh Peggy give me a break! I am Serbian Mendo, not Albanian Mendo. I am real Serb, but I don't support what Israel is doing to Palestinians. I don't support Fatah or Hamas, just ordinary citizens like I am. And yes both Albanians and Israelis have been spoiled children of US for very long time. Who gives the right for Israel to murder civilians? I still remember Israel's comments about Rachak hoax in 1999, "cold blooded murder".

Also please put your money where your mouth is and produce some evidence to suggest that the "US and EU have fiercely prevented any kind of vote in the UNGA".

Peace.

Hopefully you would support an independent Scotland too should the Scots decide to bolt your UK. And even it it means England has to lose its UNSC seat or, worse still, reapply for UN entry -- read: gleeful veto thoughts in the minds of Russia and China!
