serbs claim that this is unjust, yet they continue to praise war criminals like karadzic and mladic, they don't like kosovo independence, but they support an independent RS, seriously they want a country named republika srpska, never gonna happen, by the way the serbs seriously believe that they were the good guys.

Serb complaints are empty, Russian promises are for show. If I were Serbia and I was getting tossed around like this, I would think about building up a huge arsenal. Build a solid economy from that and open up the government to real reforms. Embrace some free market economics and become a powerhouse in natural resources (minerals, goods, have an oil pipeline with Russia, not loans with interest rates at 6%) and actually try to get Serbia to matter. Immigrants from all over will flock to Serbia and will seek to further break it down, but this time we must not put in place corrupt leaders. Serbia is an incredibly tolerate nation, especially compared to RS, and is modernizing. It is a beautiful nation, the culture, the people, the land, but you must believe in your sovereignty. Until this point, the Serb people, like they have always been, will forever be walked on. You will see nothing from your whining and groaning and you will have no respect from other nations. Do something about it and change, and that starts with sending in the armed forces into Kosovo. 1244 calls for this at some point so do it. You have a weak economy so fix it. The Serbian republic does an extraordinary job of being inefficient. This is from an American sick of what is going on at home and can't stand to see it happen elsewhere.

The countries you call were Republics of Yugoslavia, lets see if Wales/Bayern/Catalonia/Dagestan/California or any other republic/state unilateral declares independence from their country how these countries will react!

@mic. That is no excuse or a green light to commit the most horrendous crimes in the century. A Declaration of Independence does not absolve you of your crimes. Being against words written on a piece of paper named as a Declaration of Independence does not give you the right to send tanks and kill civilians. As a matter of fact declarations of independence are nothing new. Why is it ok for Serbia to declare independence from Turkey? Why is it ok for Finland to declare independence from Russia? Why is it ok for the US to declare independence from England? Yet it's not ok for Kosova and as result our women, children and elders are killed. This nuts, pure medieval way of thinking. As a matter of fact I couldn't give a sh!t if N. Mitro declares independence tomorrow. If they feel like they're welcome to do it; and if Thaci copies Milosevic to respond and starts killing indiscriminately then he would deserve his fate.

btw Serbs are guilty according to this court and non Serbs are innocent A.K.A. Angels.....

So you know that you can lie to a judge, intimidate witnesses, bribing people (court), get help from dirty people (Illuminati, new world order people)
But one day you will die everyone does, and then you can reflect on the good and bad things you have done and then you will get what you deserve.

We fought these types in a war called WWII. These Nazi croats and albanians didnt pay for what they did then. And you blame Serbs for trying to protect their own territory after these fascist groups and leaders want to take our land? It amazes me how many people come on here, and post just clueless, completely empty and lost rhetoric. Are you guys 10 yrs old? You mine as well write " my dog ate my sock".
Serbs have been victims to some of the cruelest crimes in WWII outside of Jews. And no one paid that price. Now you have a guy who's mob kills 19 witnesses..a guy who has stated publicly all over the place to killing Serbs and even draggin their bodies by his car bumper, set free!? And entering politics?
And you say Serbs must live with their past? really? Who paid for Jasenovac, who is paying for krajina, the organ trafficking? Reconciliation works both ways, never one way..so in essence you clueless individuals think its ok for only Serbs to be prosecuted. All others of torture are guilty? So, Serbia got another very unfavorable ruling form the ICJ, and like before, doesn't want to accept it, and comes with all kinds of fingerpointing, dirty unreflective comments, well, just the usual. Instead of learning something, its politicians come with all kinds of far fetched accusations and as usual mold history to fit their own distorted picture. Face it, the world sees you as the aggressor in the Balkan wars of the 90's, and that image won't be changed, no matter how loud they scream in Belgrade. The countries which were attacked by Serbia, fought back to regain their freedom, and that was their legitimate right. No word from Serbia about ethnic cleansing which took place in Croatia in a massive form before they fought back with Operation Storm. No word about the the horrible atrocities committed by Serbs in Bosnia and Kosovo, only the same old BS, we are the victims. This doesn't get Serbia anywhere. It is time to face its past and come to terms with it.

Dear Nikolic

You should be happy that Hague announced Milosevic dead (god knows where he`s chilling right now with his millions) , otherwise you wouldn`t be today a president simply because serbia wouldn`t be a country.

Let`s go on with this decision everybody is happy , serbia hasn`t been punished for crimes in bih croatia and kosovo , croatians and albanians got their heroes back , \o/ let`s advance in the european union and make our lives better for god`s sake , we all are tired of these wars and our hateful past.

Its a bit empty and hypocritical when you say that you 'want peace and a better life' (judging from your username) but when you refuse or are unwilling to acknowledge crimes committed by your side on the Serbs, there will be anything but 'peace and a better life'. You see, being honest with oneself and acknowledging that crimes were committed by your side on the Serbs starts the reconciliation process. Uttering mealy mouthed platitudes and whitewashing one's own history is not only dishonest and immoral but it ensures mutual mistrust and hatred in a region where there is more than enough of it.

However just or unjust, this verdict is simply the latest example of why little countries like Serbia must always consider the war option VERY carefully. The big boys can sometimes get away with it, but piss off the wrong international coalition, and the little guys can expect to be seriously punished. Yugoslavia came apart at a bad time for Serbs: the West was at its height, while countries more sympathetic to Serbian interests were less able to shield Serbs from the wrath of the UN and NATO. As painful as all this karma is for Serbs, I very much hope that they can put the horrible conflicts of the recent past behind them and work for regional stability. If that would mean refusing to recognize Kosovo and perhaps, as a price for this, remaining outside of the EU, then so be it. Frosty relations with neighbors are certainly better than war.

Convicted to 30 years in prison? No he wasn't. He has been aquitted TWICE. Even with this new evidence that the Serbian backed prosecution "found", they couldn't prove him guilty of any crimes.

Ramush Haradinaj handed himself over to the ICJ. He didn't go on the run like the cowards Karadic and Mladic. If you're on the run, it means you have something to hide. Haradinaj had nothing to hide and faced trial TWICE and the Serbian backed prosecution could not prove anything.

I admit that an isolated amount of small minority grassroot members of the KLA murdered a few civilians, but they have been arrested and tried for their crimes. They are in jail for their crimes. Haradinaj committed no crimes. He helped overthrow the oppressive Serbian occupation!

Of course they didnt proove anything how could they when he murdered all the 19 whitnesses. And now explain to me how could Serbia "occupie"its own territory?I bet u dont have an answer to that question. For me, when you start a war you win it all or you lose it all and that is the only justice in this matter. Serbia have started it all, Serbia needs to take all the responsibilities of the war and to be ashamed for what have they done in the last two decades.

The way how Serbian people wants the Hague tribunal to act is that every country should have equal individuals convicted of war crimes because no party in the war are innocent. For me this is bull sh**. The only party guilty in the war is the one who starts it.

Now the Hague Tribunal is finally getting it right that they are not to guaranty a fair game for doing a because no war has ever been done based on the fair rules, that's why it is called a war. The Hague tribunal is to condemn war itself. And the only way to condemn a war is to condemn the one who started it. Therefore, I would be very pissed off if I would see a Bosnia, Croatian or Albanian condemned for the group responsibility.

This is a very sad day for Serbia and a very good day for Croatia and Albania. However the court should not be held responsible. In the end the prosecutors have to prove BEYOND ANY REASONABLE DOUBT that crimes were committed. If there is any doubt, even the slightest doubt than the accused should be acquitted. This may seem unfair, especially to those who suffered, but this is the way the justice system works, even in Serbia.
Nikolic should as president of Serbia accept the ruling as legally binding and (re-)act responsibly. This does not include stirring up hatred & animosity between different ethnic groups nor alienate Serbia from the rest of Europe. His words are harsh and could have dire consequences.

The acquittals should not surprise you because the when you put on trial people who defended their homes and homeland from the barbaric acts that the Serbian paramilitary committed in Kosovo.

General Gotevina and Hajradina are finally home, and don't blame the international community, but instead blame yourself for systematically murdering people in a war you started. It just goes to show how much ultra nationalist movements pay off.

"He believes that the position of Serbs in Kosovo could deteriorate now because a position that nobody is guilty of crimes against Serbs has now been legitimized."

Where's the problem? This verdict fits perfectly to Kosovo: Even in 2012, every day there are crimes (up to murder) committed against Serbs, and there's never someone responsible for that. Not surprising in a lawless state where mafia clans rules and omerta is the 'rule of law'

Arthur Ninja

Haitian oh come on even such a biased person like you should recognize the injustice in this case. Dont you think its funny that he first was convicted to 30yrs in prison and now all of a sudden they release him?Remember that he murdered not only serbs but also albanians and gypsys that didnt agree with the KLA terrorists, you do know that the USA stated that the KLA was a terrorist organisation dont you?And this pig was the commander. Dont you think its funny that 19 ppl that were supposed to whitness against him either were murdered or silenced by various threats?

This verdict is a shameful act of inhumanity and shows no respect to serb victims whatsoever, once again the so called hague tribunal shows that there is no justice and that its ok to murder, slaughter and rape serbs. I hope these judges burn in hell along with this dirty pig who is unworthy of me typing his name.

T

pre 11 godina

Someone ought to restrain him before things get out of hand.

We fought these types in a war called WWII. These Nazi croats and albanians didnt pay for what they did then.
Do you need pictures of the 250,000 expelled Serbs? I mean its no secret. Wake up people..you write on here like you just walked out of a cave that you were in 20 years now..unreal

That 'Massacre' itself is in doubt, so nobody will be tried until there is sufficient evidence that this apparent 'Massacre' took place.
Besides them Serbian Ultra-nationalist websites only state that 22 people were killed, less than half of that 48 you said.

The Tribunal was apparently founded contrary to the international law and it was founded to try the Serbian people. Since the Serbian public is aware of these goals then they should have gotten the message, which is loud and clear:"If you serbs keep going the same path of ethnic conflicts,of electing the likes of "little Slloba" and Nicolic then you will get what you are looking for.Gotovina,Haradinaj and maybe more bombings of Serbia in the future. Uttering mealy mouthed platitudes and whitewashing one's own history is not only dishonest and immoral but it ensures mutual mistrust and hatred in a region where there is more than enough of it.

and that is being bluntly honest.

You mean: The acquittals should not surprise, because when his mafia clans kills, silences or intimidates all dozens of witnesses his crimes who could have dared to testify, what can a court do against him?

And if you would have read the court ruling a bit closer, you would have read about the tortures and murders committed in the UCK prison camps. So much about 'defending'.
