Now did you know that Greece paid 360 billion euros interest alone to Germans and French in just over 30 years?Did you know the Greek debt was only 22 billion euros in 1981? Of course not.The truth is that Albanians are always mercenaries and never supported the country that gave them jobs to support their families.Since Albanians are so fond of Turkey why don't you move there? It's only logical, same race and same religion and happy ever after.
(Leonidas, 28 November 2012 22:03)

I am an Albanian Orthodox from Gjirokaster, and I will support Turkey in a heartbeat against you. I know your kind just too well. I personally have no beef with Serbs, at least they fight you head on and dont sneak around, but there is something about greeks that just makes me crawl out of my skin.

Maybe you are right, we did fight for Greece against the Turks, (while you were only dreaming about it), only to get backstabed over and over again.Great powers were bailing you out and you didnt need Albs any longer, so you imposed the anti-albanian syndrom on Arvanites for 200 yrs, although they are Albanian by blood, language and culture (Arvanite, Albanoi, Arberesh, Arbanoi are all the same people), you still dance their dances, dress their clothes and sing their songs to this day, presenting them to the world as "Greek".

Take a good look in the mirror to see who looks like a Turk or Egyptian with that year around tan Leo....they won't bail you out forever.

Leonidas,
You forgot to mention the genocide towards ethnic albanians in Cameria after second world war .Where thousands of albanians were killed and/or kicked out of their ancesters land. To this day Greece does not allow them to claim their legitimate properties taken by force. As far as southern Albania , people have not yet forgotten the crimes comitted by Greek military in the begining of 20 th century on the civil population. My great great grand father was killed ( he was elderly) and his house was burned. As far as Greece in 1981 , it was a poor and undeveloped country. To this day I remember how the members of a greek sport team visiting Tirana, went on buying numerous grocery products in my local grocery store. And I mean they emptied the store... . So to blame EU , which took you out of your misery, sounds a bit exagerated. But then again , how can you greeks ever be wrong. By the way what do Arta, Preveza, Follorina, Janina mean in greek?

Saranda,Himmara,Girokastron Aulon, Apollonia ,Epidamnus were all ancient Albanian cities that Albanian Illyrians,Dardanians tribes built them 4000 years ago.

The Albanian Ottoman Coprulu dynasty together with Ali Pasha and his Albanian genissaries later on helped to liberate Greece from themselves.

I used to go to school with arvanites so I know a bit more than you do about them and I can tell you that calling them Albanian was the most derogative term that anyone could use against them. You should also know that Albanian immigrants in the 1990s were beaten up by arvanites if they crossed their paths.

Now did you know that Greece paid 360 billion euros interest alone to Germans and French in just over 30 years?Did you know the Greek debt was only 22 billion euros in 1981? Northern Epirus? Oh yes, that's the name mad nationalist Greeks give to Southern Albania. I forget now, where does it stretch upto, was it Durres or Vlora? Yes, this again is the imaginary Greek version about Albanians, they difuse religion with ethnicity. After all it was Patriarch Joachim IV of Constantinople (at this point the Albanian Orthodox Church hadn't yet been establisehd and Orthodox Albanian were looked after by Greek priests) who threatend to excommunicate anyone found reading and writing Albanain and Greek priests even taught that God would not understand prayers uttered in Albanian, which is the best thing I have ever read anywhere. I have been to Southern Albania many times and this imaginary Greek majority/minority in the country doesn't exist. So bye bye Northern Epirus.
As for Turks being my brothers, do not confuse me for a Muslim Albanian, I actualy come from a Catholic family (of course I detest religion and am a hardcore atheist) and do not look fondly at the Ottoman Empire. I did not say you want to liberate 'Constantinople' I said I have met Greeks who think they will. There's about as much chance of that happening as there is of Albanian taking over Janina

I am surprised that Albanians haven't claimed yet that Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato were Albanians but then again even Albanian audacity has its limitations. It's well known that after World war II many Greeks were forcibly removed from the minority zones to other parts of Albania,Greek place-names were changed to Albanian ones, and Greeks were forced to change their personal names into Albanian names. The use of the Greek language was prohibited everywhere and many dissenting Greeks were exiled in mining camps in central and North Albania. The number of Greeks in Albania has certainly being reduced in recent years through immigration to Greece but there are still into thousands with family roots in Northern Epirus. The same could also be said for the Greek minority in Turkey (numbering more than 250000 in 1950)and being reduced to less than 3000 at present (as a result of Muslim progroms).

I have visited Northern Epirus and I had conversations with Greeks still living there and I've got a clear picture of the situation.I also use the name Constantinople not because I am planning to liberate it(your own words) but because that's it's name.Your Turkish brothers have also changed the 4000 year old names of Greek cities in Cyprus, does it mean I have to accept it?

It's like telling me that all the Indians and Pakistanis in Bradford have claims of sovereignty over it.

There is plenty of bibliography for you to look at and find out on the impact that Hellenism had on Western civilization.

I have met people in Aghios Saranda telling me they were Greeks and so were their ancestors but I have yet to meet anybody in Greece telling me he was an ethnic Albanian. As for a swap I am all for it(including all the Albanian immigrants).
(Leonidas, 28 November 2012 17:21)

India and Bradford are 6000 miles apart, Leo. 200 yrs ago there were no Greeks in southern Albania, and Albanian lords like Ali Pasha ruled Albanian towns from Tepelena, Yanina, Saranda all the way to Preveza, while you watched in amussement how they fended off the turks. Ohh Leo, who are you trying to fool?
I have met plenty of Arvanites who weep in despair for their denied Albanian identity by your arrogant bailed out state.

But it's not your fault Leo, it's EU's. After 200 years of bailing you out, they still do. No wonder why you act cocky and try to bully those who dont have the luxury of $350B bailouts. Why dont you bully Turkey? Try it...
One day you will have to stand up on your own....

London and Manchester were built by the Romans, York and Dublin were built by Scandanavians and Cardiff was built by the English.

Ancient Greeks (the inventors of European Colonialism) built and colonised huge parts of Europe, Africa and Asia. Does that mean Greece has claim to these places now?

Yes there may be Greeks living in Southern Albania, but there are also Albanians living in North-West Greece. Maybe you should swap North-West Greece for the Southern part of Albania?
(Ian, UK, 28 November 2012 15:29)

Have you ever met any modern Italians residing in London or Mancester claiming to be descendants of the ancient Romans? The Greeks in Epirus have been there for thousands of years,in other words are autochthonous and not modern settlers like the Albanians. It's like telling me that all the Indians and Pakistanis in Bradford have claims of sovereignty over it.

No you really don't have a clue. I don't expect them to forget the fact that they're albanians, my issue is that there are terrorist cells that operate there and there have been multiple attacks on police in recent months, what about that can you not understand? Them waving an albanian flag isn't physically harming anyone, as long as they dont deface Serbian ones. But they need to know seperatism won't be tolerated on any level, they can be as civilly nationalistic as they want. Don't try and tell me there are no terrorist cells there either.

I guess the British 'know it all' expects us to sit back and be passive towards terrorism when at the same time Britain and the US use all kinds of deadly methods to fight terrorism. The difference is however your drone strikes take place on distant lands from yours, and your drone strikes are responsible for God knows how many deaths. But hey I guess that Britain is allowed to do this while Serbia definately shouldn't be allowed to fight terrorism on their own soil, what massive hypocrites you people are.

oh yes Southern Albania is full of Greeks! Go to Southern Albania and see how many Greeks live there, I did write Greek, not Orthodox Albanians. This is the very 'hellenistic' (the modern hellenism, not the beautiful ancient one of Aristotle, Socrates, Palto...etc, but the one that has been hijacked by mad priests) point of view that there is no such thing as an Orthodox Albanian. I know Orthodox Albanians who have been told that they're greeks by virtue of their religion. Don't take my word for it, go visit Southern Albania and see how many ethnic greeks live there. yes, they are really waiting their liberation impatiently. oh and not to stop there, i aslo know of Greeks who believe they're going to liberate Constantinople one day as well (they still refuse to call it Isanbul)

Denis

LOL! Why would the Albanians do that? They changed their religion and were privileged. They love occupiers (i.e. Ottomans, NAZIs, NATO) and they now consider themselves brothers with Turks, Germans and Americans.

Somehow I think you are reading Albanian history books. *wink* *wink*
(Zoran, 27 November 2012 23:54)

The world spins around religion for you doesnt it? Well not for Albanians.
Statistically there are more Albanian uprisings, and battles against the Turks for 400 yrs than Greek and Serbian combined. From Scanderbeg to Ali Pasha, Albanian Lords were essentially running their own territories as they pleased, and were even running the empire itself, while you were a non-entity. No wonder why the leaders and best fighters of Greek revolution were almost all of Albanian descent (Arvanites & Suliotes etc). Unlike Serbs or Greeks, Albanians dont need a middle eastern religion to define their identity, and history has proven that Serbs and Greeks have been a greater threat to their existence than Turks.

Your comment about Greeks dividing Albanian lands does remind me the Turkish guide at the museum in Ephesus speaking about her ANCESTORS.You need a crash course in history to find out that Greek tribes settled in Epirus more than 4000 years ago.Cities like Aulon (modern-day Vlorë), Apollonia, Epidamnus (modern-day Durres, Oricum, Thronion, and Amantia were all built by the Greeks. What does Himara, Saranda and Girokastron mean in Albanian?

I apologise for getting the place wrong.

Well I must say I am suprised you don't put a Serbian flag up. In certain parts of Bradford you can see Polish, Slovakia, Ukrainian and Hungarian flags.

And you think martial law is a good idea to keep Albanians under control for peacefully celebrating their nation's national holiday aka what you would call terrorism. Yes they may favour seperation and would like to be apart of a Greater Albania, but there are many Serbs outside of Serbia who favour Seperation and would like a Greater Serbia.

In the heads of people like you, when Serbs fight to be apart of a Greater Serbia in places such as Bosnia, Croatia ect in the early 1990s this is seen as a moral patriotic galliant romantic act fighting for the freedom of their people. However when Albanians do the same, in the late 1990s/ early 2000s this is seen as an immoral evil nationalist act and because their religion is Islam, they're automaticaly "terrorists" and "insurgents".

Yes many Albanians in Southern Serbia may favour border changes, but so would many Serbs east of Serbia. But you want to neutralise their politican opinions by sending in the Army, however all that would do is have the opposite affect and would radicalise their political opinions. Yet apparently I "have no clue".

Actually, Albanians are celebrating the flag day all over the world today, not only in the south of Serbia. I saw pictures of the flag being raised in some cities in America, Croatia, and Italy. I am sure there are more places where this is happening. So no big deal, Serbia is not special, just one country among others where Albanians happen to live and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the declaration of independence.

If you people want to have some deja vu-s from the last 10 years or so, you should absolutely read the transcripts of the discussions in the League of Nations back in the 1920's. What Yugoslavia and Greece were saying back then regarding Albania is the same that is being said today regarding Kosovo. The "international law" and all the other stuff.

Brandon

I am disappointed of the disrespect displayed here with regards to the albanian national flag and symbols. I truly hope that you are not a representatives sample of the entire serbian people. It is evident to me that some wounds would not heal easily. I live in USA, in a major city, and albanians celebrated their flag day in the middle of the city with flags, songs and speaches. It is only natural that they do the same thing on the soil where they have lived in generations. I guess it is this intolerance, demostrated here, that made it impossible for the Kosovo albanians to live under Serbia. I see attempts here to describe albanians that somehow showed up here, in border with Albania, and occupied Serbian land. That somehow Albanians came from Asia with turks. Yet our language is unique, and can't be compared with anyone. There is no record anywere of an Albanian exodus, and we somehow ended up further south and closer to the sea than many other nation in balkans. To be honest, I don't even care who came first where. I just wanted to point out how fare are some willing to go... . I personally would prefer that somehow our nations find peace with each other, in the example of France and Germany. I hope that cooler heads will prevail.

Amer

"LOL! Why would the Albanians do that? "

They didn't like some of the changes the Young Turks were making. What they got out of it was the right to schools teaching in Albanian, Albanian-speaking officials, no service for Albanian troops outside of Kosovo ... and a number of other changes [ask an Albanian, I remember only a few things from general history. And from a poem our Longfellow wrote about Scanderbeg.) The Albanians were not at the start interested in independence, knowing the interest the Italians, the Montenegrins, the Greeks, and the Serbs had in dividing up their territory.

No turkish flag in front of a German city hall,

But those same nations are asking Serbia to do even more, talking about minority rights.
Serbia has no lessons to receive of those nations who would be more than shocked if somebody would ask them to do at home what they try to impose abroad.

Reader

pre 11 godina

Leonidas,
You forgot to mention the genocide towards ethnic albanians in Cameria after second world war .Where thousands of albanians were killed and/or kicked out of their ancesters land.

The Albanian Ottoman Coprulu dynasty together with Ali Pasha and his Albanian genissaries later on helped to liberate Greece from themselves.

First no I don't live in Oxfordshire. Secondly I don't put Serbian flags out in public, flags stay in my own home. Thirdly I am not running a terrorist insurgency in Britain nor are any Serbs.

I don't see how that is a hate comment, I was merely stating what would be a good idea to keep albanian terrorism under control. You English people in the UK have no clue about the situation on the ground in Presevo and Bujanovac.

Yet apparently I "have no clue".

oh yes Southern Albania is full of Greeks!

Of course not.The truth is that Albanians are always mercenaries and never supported the country that gave them jobs to support their families.Since Albanians are so fond of Turkey why don't you move there? It's only logical, same race and same religion and happy ever after.

Brandon

Leonidas,
You forgot to mention the genocide towards ethnic albanians in Cameria after second world war .Where thousands of albanians were killed and/or kicked out of their ancesters land.
