Interethnic tensions flare in Macedonia

I live in Tirana, but this photo is as it was taken in our capital. I condemn the beating, raping or murder of any human beeing, specially for ethnic causes, but what you expect if you fill the macedonian capital with ALBANIAN flag. I still wonder how can it be that macedonian policitans let this happen? Very shortsighteed but good for the albanians that supports the Greater Albania (not me)

If i was a bitter Greek i would say that it serves them right but i ain't gonna say it. I don't take joy from other people's misery, even though i know that many people in Skopje are happy with Greece's bankruptcy. All i'm gonna say to the people of the neighboring country, of whom i have a very good opinion, is that they should stop builing monuments of Alexander the Great and focus on finding some friends in the region. The year is 2012 AD, not 330 BC.

To our Slavic brothers in FYR Macedonia, please drop the ludicrous "ancient Macedonian" rhetoric and focus on the real problems in front of you. Your expensive and foolish pursuit of something that is not yours (the Alexander Dynasty) will lead you to failure.

Recognize your Slavic roots, apologize to Greece and together with the people of both Serbia and Montenegro- deal with a common problem that is an extreme threat to our very existence.

Albanian radical Islamist separatism can be quelled rather quickly and easily with our cooperation as NATO can never possibly sell the idea of bombing three UN recognized countries (4 with Greece, who too deals with the same problem) for the unrealistic goal of Greater Albania.

Israel and Russia would also have a strong interest in seeing this problem solved because a victory for terrorists in the Balkans can translate to victories for terrorists on Israeli and Russian soil.

The peoples of Serbia, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and possibly Greece can liberate both the Christian AND the Muslim communities in the Balkans from Islamist separatism. This must be priority #1.

B92 correspondent says that Skopje and western parts of Macedonia are covered in Albanian flags. According to announcements, Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci will attend the celebration.

Kosova is covered with Albanian flags as well. Why no Serb media has not reported this yet? Is Ivica attending the celebration in Tirana? OH,he may come for grand opening ceremony of IBM implementation between Kosova and Serbia. I'll be there to toast with shot of rakija.

I really don't understands why our neighbours every time we have something to celebrate always try to ruin our celebrations.. No one is trying to provoke no one here, we're just celebrating our FLAG DAY as always. We do that everywhere we are in the world, why not in Macedonia or Serbia? We albanians always had to fight for the most basic human rights, like having schools and universities in our own languages, no one of our minorities in Albania for example had to make war just for having those basic rights.. Hey Mick unfortunately for you the newest people in the Balkans are the Slavs. The Slavs and Avars came in the balkan peninsula during the 6th century AD, some 1000 years after the time of Alexander.So if you claim to be descendants of Alexander you're denying your slavic identity. The Slavs of course are not a nation but a race which consists of many european nations including yours. And as for Greece, we never expelled anybody from Macedonia. The Turks fled due to an agreement of exchanging populations between Turkey and Greece. The Slavs took part in the greek civil war (1944-9) in the side of communists and fled after their defeat. As for the Vlachs they still live in Macedonia, Thessaly and other parts of Greece and don't consider themselves different than the Greeks. What kind of messed-up history do they teach you in Skopje?

The Slav Macedonians should stop sending their children out to remove Albanian flags . Its a celebration not an attack and the Slav Macedonians should be celebrating with the Albanian Macedonians .

Let's get some of the facts straight. First of all, no Macedonians lost the 2nd Balkan War because they didn't fight it. It was Bulgaria that lost the war to Greece and Serbia. If Macedonian Slavs fought alongside the Bulgarians, that's fine by me. Thus they showed their true national identity. Secondly, it is true that the Serbian Empire of Stefan Dusan included many parts of today's Greece and Dusan intended to attack even Constantinople. If he had lived to do that, maybe there wouldn't be any Turks in the Balkans or their ottoman remnants that torment us today(Bosniaks, Muslim Albanians). However Serbia or Jugoslavia never had any territotial claims on Greece and during the Cold War we the Greeks believed that Bulgaria was the northern enemy and not Jugoslavia. That's why we're friends with the Serbs, not because geography keeps us apart. As for Bulgarians being a mixture of peoples that's accurate. Bulgarians are of mongol origin, they came from Central Asia and in the Balkans they blended with the Slavs and with local populations. Now that doesn't make them descendants of the ancient Macedonians, does it?

Geography made Macedonians neighbors to Greece and Serbia, while History placed them on the side of the losers in the second Balkan War and on the side of the winners in the first Balkan War. I'd like to reply to the individuals who believe that Macedonia betrayed Serbia through the recognition of Kosovo and various other events-this is not the case, at all. Tensions between the Macedonians and Albanians have always existed. Ask any Macedonian if they'd recognize Kosovo and the answer is simple-no. I do not wish to get into any political arguments, however I will say, as a Macedonian, that the country is so corrupted it's unbelievable. Our politicians care more about their income than they do about the people and their country. Please, before you say anything, understand that there is a difference between the citizens and the government. I have nothing against Greeks, Bulgarians, Serbs or Albanians. I treat everyone with respect unless given a reason not to. I have been to Macedonian events and I have seen for myself how you people feel about us. I have heard songs with words like "Greece leave us alone, Serbia leave us alone".
When the war broke out in the former Yugoslavia I have seen demonstrations through the streets of Melbourne by Croatians and Bosnian Muslims where Macedonians included themselves in support of them. Heaps of Maceonian flags amongst Bosnina and Croatian ones.

I am truly sad to hear that a child was killed by these psycho nurses. This does not mean that Serbs are psycho. All it means is that there are people out there who are truly evil and should not be on this earth regardless of what nationality or race they are.

I was speaking generally.
You may not be the type to go and protest about anything, but many, many Macedonians were out in the street in solidarity with Bosniaks and Croatians during that time.
So when people say that Macedonians are with the Serbs and it is only the government that is bad I don't see how I can believe that.
I saw all this on the evening news here in Australia. I heard the songs against the Serbs and Greeks at Macedonian functions. I was there and nobody can tell me that Macedonians are with Serbs.

So when Macedonia runs into serious trouble with Albanians, and your people will, you will ask Serbia for help. You will ask that Serbia support your efforts in a political arena. If God forbid, another war breaks out you will ask Serbs for help not the Bulgarians because I know that Bulgarians are not happy with your people not acknowledging their Bulgarian roots.

It doesn't give me pleasure to know and say any of this but it's the truth. I have lived it here and seen how much Macedonians supported our enemy. It disgusted me.

I really don't understands why our neighbours every time we have something to celebrate always try to ruin our celebrations.. No one is trying to provoke no one here, we're just celebrating our FLAG DAY as always. We do that everywhere we are in the world, why not in Macedonia or Serbia? We albanians always had to fight for the most basic human rights, like having schools and universities in our own languages, no one of our minorities in Albania for example had to make war just for having those basic rights.. Even today some people are angered just because we celebrate our FLAG DAY, i think this is absurd.. Anyway i want to thank some of your people who understands us and respecets these celebrations.. Especially the government of the Republic of Macedonia and their people. We in ALbania do not have absolutly hateful feelings towards macedonian people.. They have suffered and are suffering a lot to preserve their indipendence and identity as we have suffered during these century... we ALBANIANS know this. I live in Tirana, but this photo is as it was taken in our capital. I condemn the beating, raping or murder of any human beeing, specially for ethnic causes, but what you expect if you fill the macedonian capital with ALBANIAN flag. I still wonder how can it be that macedonian policitans let this happen? Very shortsighteed but good for the albanians that supports the Greater Albania (not me)

Israel and Russia would also have a strong interest in seeing this problem solved because a victory for terrorists in the Balkans can translate to victories for terrorists on Israeli and Russian soil.

B92 correspondent says that Skopje and western parts of Macedonia are covered in Albanian flags. According to announcements, Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci will attend the celebration.

Kosova is covered with Albanian flags as well. Why no Serb media has not reported this yet? Is Ivica attending the celebration in Tirana? OH,he may come for grand opening ceremony of IBM implementation between Kosova and Serbia. I'll be there to toast with shot of rakija.

If i was a bitter Greek i would say that it serves them right but i ain't gonna say it. Geography made Macedonians neighbors to Greece and Serbia, while History placed them on the side of the losers in the second Balkan War and on the side of the winners in the first Balkan War. Imagine for a moment now, that Geography had made Serbia and Greece neighbors instead. Oh what fun that would have been, what a History of "friends" that would have been. After all, if History is correct, the Serbian empire of Stefan Dusan included large parts of Greece too. Hey Mick unfortunately for you the newest people in the Balkans are the Slavs. The Slavs and Avars came in the balkan peninsula during the 6th century AD, some 1000 years after the time of Alexander.So if you claim to be descendants of Alexander you're denying your slavic identity. The Slavs of course are not a nation but a race which consists of many european nations including yours. And as for Greece, we never expelled anybody from Macedonia. The Turks fled due to an agreement of exchanging populations between Turkey and Greece. The Slavs took part in the greek civil war (1944-9) in the side of communists and fled after their defeat. As for the Vlachs they still live in Macedonia, Thessaly and other parts of Greece and don't consider themselves different than the Greeks. What kind of messed-up history do they teach you in Skopje?

Let's get some of the facts straight. First of all, no Macedonians lost the 2nd Balkan War because they didn't fight it. It was Bulgaria that lost the war to Greece and Serbia. If Macedonian Slavs fought alongside the Bulgarians, that's fine by me. Thus they showed their true national identity. Secondly, it is true that the Serbian Empire of Stefan Dusan included many parts of today's Greece and Dusan intended to attack even Constantinople. If he had lived to do that, maybe there wouldn't be any Turks in the Balkans or their ottoman remnants that torment us today(Bosniaks, Muslim Albanians). However Serbia or Jugoslavia never had any territotial claims on Greece and during the Cold War we the Greeks believed that Bulgaria was the northern enemy and not Jugoslavia. That's why we're friends with the Serbs, not because geography keeps us apart. As for Bulgarians being a mixture of peoples that's accurate. Bulgarians are of mongol origin, they came from Central Asia and in the Balkans they blended with the Slavs and with local populations. Now that doesn't make them descendants of the ancient Macedonians, does it?

I'd like to reply to the individuals who believe that Macedonia betrayed Serbia through the recognition of Kosovo and various other events-this is not the case, at all. Tensions between the Macedonians and Albanians have always existed. Ask any Macedonian if they'd recognize Kosovo and the answer is simple-no. I do not wish to get into any political arguments, however I will say, as a Macedonian, that the country is so corrupted it's unbelievable. Our politicians care more about their income than they do about the people and their country. Please, before you say anything, understand that there is a difference between the citizens and the government. I have nothing against Greeks, Bulgarians, Serbs or Albanians. I am truly sad to hear that a child was killed by these psycho nurses. This does not mean that Serbs are psycho. All it means is that there are people out there who are truly evil and should not be on this earth regardless of what nationality or race they are.

I was speaking generally.
You may not be the type to go and protest about anything, but many, many Macedonians were out in the street in solidarity with Bosniaks and Croatians during that time.
So when people say that Macedonians are with the Serbs and it is only the government that is bad I don't see how I can believe that.
I saw all this on the evening news here in Australia. I heard the songs against the Serbs and Greeks at Macedonian functions. I was there and nobody can tell me that Macedonians are with Serbs.

So when Macedonia runs into serious trouble with Albanians, and your people will, you will ask Serbia for help. You will ask that Serbia support your efforts in a political arena. If God forbid, another war breaks out you will ask Serbs for help not the Bulgarians because I know that Bulgarians are not happy with your people not acknowledging their Bulgarian roots.

It doesn't give me pleasure to know and say any of this but it's the truth. I have lived it here and seen how much Macedonians supported our enemy. It disgusted me.

I have been to Macedonian events and I have seen for myself how you people feel about us. I have heard songs with words like "Greece leave us alone, Serbia leave us alone".
When the war broke out in the former Yugoslavia I have seen demonstrations through the streets of Melbourne by Croatians and Bosnian Muslims where Macedonians included themselves in support of them. Heaps of Maceonian flags amongst Bosnina and Croatian ones.
You think that didn't affect us?
