Regarding the media in UK i do recall, to put it bluntly, that Rupert Murdoch and his tabloid "the sun" decided who would be the next prime minister in UK.So much for British democracy.

They don't decide, they just tell people who to vote for and they can influence enough floating voters to decide the outcome of an election.

I don't agree with it, but with Press Freedom it is permitted.

It is my belief that the media should report the news instead of creating it and giving their opinions on it. Let the masses create and decide their own opinions.

I am not blaming the West for Greece's woes but for every effect there is a causality and in this case it was the collapse of the Western ponzi financial scheme.Had it not been a collapse in the West the Greek banks and neo-liberal corrupt elites would still continue using Goldman Sacks's fraudulent derivatives system and they would still get away with their fraud.
As to your question whether Kostas Vaxevanis just revealed the tip of the Iceberg the answer is probably yes and the reason is the list of names he revealed involves only one bank (HSBC)in Switzerland. There are hundreds of banks in offshore heavens and the probability that they hold accounts of rich Greeks is very high.

You never fail to impress. It is nice of you to acknowledge that the deterioration of Press Freedom is down to the 'neo-liberal political class' (or what I would call elitists) having their dirty little secrets exposed by the Press. But as usual you have tried to turn it on it it's head by blaming the West for the 2008 economic crisis which has severely impacted Greece in the long run, which has brought the need for exposing the Greek elitists secrets. Yes Western bankers messing up big time was very inconvenient for the Greek 'neo-liberal political class' as your average Greek has begun to question how much tax are these Millionaires actually paying. However if they didn't have these secrets in the first place, there wouldn't be a need to expose anything and press freedom wouldn't be in decline as a consequence. Press Freedom is decreasing in Greece because the elitists are guarding their own backs. Has Kostas Vaxevanis just revealed the tip of the Iceberg? That is the bigger picture, the bigger question.

I don't claim that things are any better in Britain. And yes I believe that journalism is probably more respectable in Greece, compared to the disease called Tabloidism which has infected the British media. However I think you'll find that the establishment is in bed with media, not the other way round. The media is the most influential factor in British society these days. More so than family, religion, peers, poltics ect.

In order to answer your question one has to put things into context by asking the question when did these alleged or actual attacks on journalists started taking place? The answer is those attacks occurred after 2008 when the financial crisis engulfed Greece and the spark of this crisis were Lehman Brothers,UK and European banks.

Greek politicians and bankers decided to bow to Germany's austerity demands. In fact, Germany didn't want Greece and the others in trouble to leave the Euro since that would either send the Euro higher or force Germany to return to the Deutsch Mark (DM),crushing Germany's exports and employment, and also the fact that the outstanding Greek debt is mainly owned by French and German banks.

The German imposed austerity that followed since 2009 has virtually destroyed the Greek economy, social cohesion and leading into violence. The neo-liberal political class in Greece has been totally discredited by journalists exposing their fraud and corruption on a daily basis and as a result journalists become targets of intimidation and physical attacks.

I cannot possibly see an end to violence against journalists at present. But one has to congratulate those risking their lives in exposing the corrupt politicians and ruling classes unlike the journalists in UK that are in bed with the establishment and trying to cover their dirty linen all the time(Murdoch scandal,BBC-Saville,Brooks-Cameron)and the list goes on.
