And with Russia owning 51%of the company, after the investment is paid back which country is the bulk of that money going to end up going?
Do you really think Russia is going to invest 2 billion so Serbia can sit back and collect all the profits. It will probably be 15-20 years before Serbia actually sees any of the actual profits.
And is this not the 2nd loan from China were half or more of the money is invested in the Chinese economy?
Please, if someone sends you an email that says you won a bunch of money and all you have to do is send them your bank account information for a deposit, do not reply this is called a Nigerian Scam.

A loan from the chinese or a loan from the IMF? What's the difference? A loan from the chinese doesn't pass by built in US

control of the IMF which has been begging for chinese, russian and japanese money (Lagarde's tour of desperation). Bilateral deals

are much more straight forward and at least the loan is for modernization. What a bunch of cassandra's you are.

Math question: if country A gets $1.8 billion at X% interest rate from country B, but $900 million of that goes back to country B in a form that excludes the interests themselves (e.g., paying workers and companies of country B), what is the real interest rate country A is paying?

3) 4X
4) 8X

"Why? When I get a loan, it is up to me what I do with the money."

Because maybe they wouldn't give such a large loan if they didn't get participation with their companies. The 50/50 is used to help bring in the deal.
I think Serbia needs a subway system though - one which goes under the Danube and/or Sava. If Serbia's economy ever really picks up they should build one.

Well, anyway my doubters, just like you all laughed at the NIS deal, you will eat humble pie once again. Russia will have invested €2 billion into NIS, we have a new refinery and will shortly export euro quality fuel to all of our neighbours, including EU members Romania and Bulgaria.

As for the other nonsense, there are always strings attached to loans. Go and get one from the World Bank and IMF. In the end, you lose all of your state assets with the conditions they set and the interest rates are high. Serbia is finally moving ahead, investing in project that will certainly provide revenue. When the roads are finished, we start collecting tolls. When the energy projects are finished, we start exporting it. The important thing is that they get finished as soon as possible and Serbia, China and Russia end up with a win-win situation. Much better than what we get with the EU and US.

Both Chinese and Serbian companies will share construction responsibilities (close to the 50/50 mark).
(Zoran, 7 November 2012 21:34)

Why? When I get a loan, it is up to me what I do with the money. The bank cannot tell me to hire people who work for the bank, too. The bank can only demand that your solvency is not compromised and on that basis to put conditions, but that's it. Everything else are just strings to the disadvantage to the debtor which is not justified since the bank gets interest rates.

It is up to you what you do. It's your country. Just don't claim that it is advantageous, because it is not. The truth is that this is only another very vivid example where countries like Russia and China can twist and blackmail Serbia for their political good will and you embarrassingly even smile and laugh. Like a pathetic puppet at strings.

"More great news."

What exactly is great in having more debts?

"Why has it taken so long to establish stronger relations with both Russia and China? Well, the obvious answer is that now we have a government generally helping Serbia rather than some foreign interests and nations."

China and Russia have only altruistic motives. Absolutely..

"So two big ticks, one for investing in energy and the other in infrastructure."

One requires that Russian companies must be involved, the other one demands that Chinese worker carry out the work. Brilliant!

"The main point here is that this initially generates revenue to repay the loans (which are low interest when coming from China). Once paid, it goes into our budget."

Not really when Serbian workers predominantly just hold the watcher position. In fact, China and Russia cleverly involve their companies and workers while still earning interest rates.

"Of significance also is that China has the know-how with infrastructure so Serbian companies can learn a lot. For instance, China recently built the world's longest tunnel (some 80+ kilometers) and the worlds longest bridge in record time (four years)."

There is no significant know-how behind that. China has simply legions of workers who live on 500 RMB (50 Euro) per month in small boxes near the construction sites.

"Lets keep these positive developments going and let the doubters eat their words.(Zoran, 7 November 2012 18:58)"
