Radovan,

Everything you say is exactly how Djukanovic's master plan unfolds: playing the independence card he holds all the cards. His party keeps on reminding of the dangers -telling they are the only saviour, same way as you put it: "Milo (good or bad) represents a protection of the independence". But of course omitting the word "bad" in the brackets.

It's true that Djukanovic has received great help from stupid behaviour of certain sections of the opposition. It's been easy for Djukanovic to collect victories and cash them.

And if Djukanovic party has promised and arranged you a job, even if it means just sitting somewhere doing nothing, you rather go with the party and keep the job than have nothing. You can say that many Montenegrins - who consider themselves proud people - sell their pride cheap. Pride doesn't feed you, they know.

Altogether it's a simple game.

Montenegrins owe bit of debt of gratitude to Milo for delivering them independence. A real fear is the Serb and Albo, muslim, minorities who keep talking about breaking the country apart to join their respective countries. In a small country of only 650,000 to 700,000, that is a very big concern. Nonetheless, Milo (good or bad) represents a protection of the independence that was narrowly achieved and can easily unravel.

The number of voters in MN is very small. The govt, i.e. Milo knows who votes for whom. If one wants to keep their job they must vote for Milo.
Sad but true.

1. Most of Montenegrins are very passive and fearful in their role in politics. Reasons for this can be understood by anyone who has even slightest knowledge of how power, money and institutions of law in Montenegro are intertwined with each others.

2. Sect is a quite accurate word in describing the people voting for Djukanovic party (forget its name Democratic Party of Socialists: its real name is Djukanovic Party; it's neither democratic nor socialist).

3. Clan is even more accurate word.

Its depressing that there hasn't been a change of government in the history of Montenegro as a modern democratic state.

If constant power breeds corruption, one can only imagine...
