Why is the ancestry of Albanians even being discussed? I couldn't care less whether or not they were in Kosovo several thousand years ago; a thousand years before that it belonged to someone else. The only relevant argument is that Kosovo has belonged to Serbia since the 7th century. According to Albanian logic, perhaps I should go and urinate on a tree in Tirana and in two thousand years my descendants can claim that land.
Luka, 5 November 2012 09:08

Not really. The only valid argument is who lives there. Albanians live there so they get to decide. Whoever comes after Albanians will get to decide as well. Before Sebs came to Europe the Romans had it for 2000 years. Then Turks and Serbs pissed on it and claimed it. You live there you own it. Simple as that. If Albania was to be flooded by Greeks and Serbs tomorrow we can claim all we want that it's not Serb or Greek. It's who lives there that matters. That is why there is a Serbia to begin with. You didn't originate from Europe. People can claim all they want that up to the 7th century they owned that place. It doesn't make the slightest difference. Serb love there now so they own it. Same for Kosova. Albanians live there so they own it. If Serbs became a majority in Kosova they will own it. It really is that simple.
The point about wether at some point Kosova was independent or not. That doesn't matter either. To have declared independence it means you were dependent at some point. That includes Serbia.

You should be for a change and for the first time practical and pragmatic and to see how to take as much as possible benefits from this negotiations. Of course Serbian government is not crazy and it seems that you have a government which will do something positive for the citizens even by risking a popularity but for the public interest and for the better future. Something like this Zoran Djindjic wanted to do but people didn’t have a sense for his vision. So Serbia lost this chance, but you can lost everything if you don’t learn something from this mistake. You must be brave and you must have the responsibility to do the best you can in this negotiations. You finally have a respectable position in EU, USA and Russia.

Avni, I literally expected this reply. The Turks had OCCUPIED the Balkans for five hundred years. What? Serbia has been occupying Kosovo for over a thousand? That would be under the assumption Albanians ever lived in Kosovo during these thousand years, which they didn't. You like to think we have been "occupying" your homeland, like the Turks did the Balkans during their height of power. Albania was formed in the 12th century and Kosovo was a part of Serbian territory since the 7th. I kid you not, I knew one of you would try to somehow involve Turkish occupation to further your argument. Up until Hitler gave you the idea of a "Greater Albania", you hadn't even tried to regain your "ancient homelands" in Kosovo and Macedonia in those last thousand years, had you? No, you started inventing these claims once that fascist dream had been implanted in your minds.

Why is so important to have been a independent country?
All Balkan states are 100 more or les years old independent states.
The point is that Albanians have live here before you slavs came to Balkans, why does it matter to you how they lived,as a state or a Klan?
Greece, for ex., was never state in 2000 years till 1844 or so.
Same can be said for Serbs, you did not have your state for 500years.
Don't know what your point is,you were "state"700 years ago,who cares,so were Romans, bisantines, ottomans, but none exist today.
You Serbs have lost the argument and ,trayed the war and just lost that too.just get over and accept reality BC,you never are going to have kosova back under your rule.

Do you read the articles you link to? I think not! The article you included doesn't provide any proof, only: albanians claim...serbs claim!
One claim I found interesting is this one:

"In general Albanian historians do not deny that some Albanians occupied Serbian lands"
http://www.nytimes.com/books/first/v/vickers-serb.html

By the way, the author of the article is obviously pro alb. So much for her credibility.

"Vickers, who is fluent in the Albanian language."
http://www.nytimes.com/books/98/08/09/reviews/980809.09husarst.html

So, I'm still waiting for proof showing that Kosovo was ever an independent territory, who later got occupied by serbs.

Resources Serbia may get licenses for in Kosovo (if any) will most likely be handed out to Russian companies for free, as has happened many times lately. And the next step may very well be sending Russian security contractors to 'protect' those resources. I would be cautious with this type of deals if i were in Kosovo's government place.

This kind of talk should come much earlier, but the negotiations never too late. Serbia needs to talk with the Albanians that they would not lose everything in the end _ people, property, history and the possibility of establishing a dialogue between Serbs and Albanians living in Kosovo. Serbia then not only will not have coal, but will have nothing.

This is a huge resource for all of people here."

And so are all big corporations also "resources for all people here". IF (???) the coalproject with the problematic KS-lignite also under enviromental aspects can be realized, this will need huge investments. Only foreign private companies can do this. And what is with practical questions: a Serb-Albanian oint Venture? And who will decide who will be employed? Corruption, national hate within a company-which company from abroad would take over the risk, and who should by the energy. The renewable energy (now 26%) is growing very fast (since 2011 alone solar-energy increased 50%)and in Germany with the state-of-the-art
lignite power stations you have discussions about the enviromental problems. Nobody would like to have as state or company in Germany photos from Kosovo with ugly lignite-power-stations and poor (Roma) children playing in the dirt. Such energy you cannot sell in the West. And the poor Serbs have no money for such imports. Its a fantasy-"vision", typically for Serbia. Serbia is only be "interesting" for Aijvar.

The Albanian squatters in Kosovo are socially, culturally and politically unfit to exploit the natural resources of Kosovo. If Euroville wants to get those resources, the Serbs are the only people in the region who are going to be able to make it possible.

My Albanian friends in Kosovo thank you for finally speaking to our energy minister. We really must come to some agreement regarding the rental you need to pay for your occupation of Serbian Territory and discuss the length your lease.I believe it was 500 years last time. We'd prefer it to be considerably shorter on this occasion as we really don't want to have to force an eviction order again.According to the United Nations we still own the freehold and it would seem within the realms of natural justice that whatever natural resources you avail yourselves of whilst in residence that you pay for them. Thanks

Kosovo never became Serbian because it has always been Serbian. All the cities, churches, rivers, mountains etc have Serbian names. Look at international law and history and show me where and when Kosovo was ever a recognized albanian territory? Go back in history and see how many albanians lived in Kosovo 60 years ago. A high birthrate shouldnt give you the right to take someone elses territory.

When are you going to realize that Kosovo has never been "yours". You have 10 children per family and have due to that become a majority in Kosovo. However, Kosovo is not "your" territory. So, the resourses don't belong to you. The americans are landgrabbers themselves so they have no problem helping albanian landgrabbers steal Serbian lands. You have stolen Kosovo and everything in it.

When it comes to negotiations on energy, the minister told Tanjug that she expected Belgrade and Priština to come to an agreement about "the use of coal in Kosovo in the next 10, 20 or 50 years."

According to Albanian logic, perhaps I should go and urinate on a tree in Tirana and in two thousand years my descendants can claim that land.
