it is not only that the position of Interior Minister gives him power over his opponents and allies. It also protects those from SPS who have things to hide. Given the history of SPS, I would think it is a big lot. Not a coincidence that he wanted this ministry in 2008 and that he still kept it in 2012. The 90's taught him well the power that that ministry can yield.

Oh dear good. Is it possible? This is the first time I have ever heard that people from police were wiretapping president and first deputy PM? According to the top level corruption in Serbia, which is on the highest level in Europe, it seems that they are doing a right things. They are certainly going in right direction. Good luck and go forward with all reforms, on the first place with anti-corruption battle.

This is a serious scandal. It could bring down the government if it is Dacic and his supporters abusing the security services. Of course abuse of the security services is nothing new, but a sitting Prime Minister in any semi democratic country could not survive if he is guilty.

It makes one wonder whether Dacic, who has played Serbian politics masterfully in the past couple of years, first in his shameless self promotion, then as Kingmaker and finally as King, has done so well - perhaps because he is spying upon and then outwitting his opponents.

I expect that if he is behind this somebody else will be ordered to take the fall. Rougue elements will be accused, or a branch of spies with ties to DS. Seems slightly odd that it would be possible for the opposition to spy upon the President and why would they want to spy on him? The best motive would be from SPS who would want to keep a close eye on Nikolic and SNS, because they are the ones that could throw SPS out of power.

The wire-tappers are probably the same people from whom the phone calls originate from 'on high', when someone who has been legitimately arrested by a working police officer is unexpectedly ordered to be set free because of 'contacts'.

That is probably the worst form of corruption that happens in Serbia, and certainly it is time that to stop - or else maybe it is time for several top police chiefs to discover what it is like to have to live inside a cell for a long period.
