Serbia has no clear idea about his position and further way, only that "auntie EU will sole all problems with a lot of money". The Kosovo FM said it very clear, there will be no autonomy for the serbs within Kosovo or special rights at all, only some little rights within a couple of villages. He spoke of a "genocide" which Serbs has done. There is no basic for an real agreement, because before the agreements is coming the increasing mutual understanding. This is not existing. And Serbia media are making propganda against Serbs n Kosovo with some money misfunded. But who is speaking about the billions of EURO which were stolen by Prishtina? The "rooten carrot" is the problem of Serbia as "rotten state", and Kostunica is part of the problem, not of the solution.

I agree with the article and with most commentators here.
Haitian is right, EU doesn't need Serbia.
According to the latest polls, less then half of citizens of Serbia wants to join EU today.
Especially in the category 18-29 years old (young people). Only 37% would want to join EU, 46% wouldn't and the rest is undecided or wouldn't vote in the referendum.
So, EU doesn't want us, we don't want them. Why don't someone stop this charade already, and stop the talk about EU membership for Serbia. Let's just sign agreements of mutual interest and be good neighbors.

I say it's more a jug of poisoned carrot juice they are offering, and unfortunately Serbia has already drunk a few samples, which have caused it harm, but the Serbian government still keeps trucking towards the poison.

How do you know? Do you work in the Foreign Office as an analyst?
In fact this visit can be treated as more of a joke than anything else simply because both represent entities that are becoming more irrelevant by the day.
The EU is fighting for its own survival with bankrupt countries left, right and centre in the midst of a recession while back at the old ranch the US is pushing on schedule to reaching the 17 trillion dollar debt figure and the last but the best on Sunday one of the US’s greatest allies, Australia, announced a major policy shift from the US to Asia – the US consulate was there and you should have seen his face; the word stunned could not describe it.
The moral of the story its two westerners coming to Belgrade to talk BS with nothing to offer accept the same old rhetoric that is as empty as their heads.

I hate to burst your bubble but all of this coming out of Belgrade is moving away from joining the EU; notice statements such as this then the recent polls about the youth moving further away from the EU. It’s all part of a process that takes time to reach a conclusion. Naturally the west comes out with “slight majority’ in favour of EU, but its all useless and too late.

You are so right the rotten is what it is, serbia cant look at the smiles they are getting from the west maybe they should start looking at the great picture. All these "good" welcome" meetings with the west is just a mask. The boom is on the way. Serbia if needed has to create a platform as they are doing and stop talking about when and how it is going with it dont waist money on that, focus on something else now if serbia continues to pressure back by writing about kosovo everyday the message wont be as strong when it arrives. Power up and focus on something else for the news. Maybe international relations south america? asia?africa?economy? A

If I understand correctly, Serbia is being pressurised to accept that all Kosovo be under the control of Pristina. Is that right?
Hmm......

Most of the work to fulfill one of the main criteria for the "rotten carrot", cooperation with the Hague, was done precisely by the DSS and Kostunica when they were in power. Out of roughly 60 people wanted by the Hague, only three were left when the DS took power in 2008. Most of the others were sent to or forced to go to the Hague by Kostunica. Each government in Serbia has gone closer to the "rotten carrot", nobody is an exception.

But the "rotten carots" were also accepted under Kostunica. Its Serbia s problem to accept elswhere "rotten products". Have a look into Belgrades shops with all the rubbish which is overprized. The Serbs like this games, "its diplmacy" without knowing what it is.

I'm sorry but Serbia is offering the EU an even more rotten carrot. Why would the EU want Serbia among their ranks?

Serbia has a lot of growing up to do before she should be allowed anywhere near the EU.
