Top officials confer on platform for Kosovo

Serbia wants that....and that...and that...and that and "in return" we will never recognise your independence.....))) How bizzarre is the Serbian polititians logic! Rest assured that in the negotiating table Kosovo will be represented very equally to Serbia. Any agreement reached will be based in RECIPROCITY. The same for the rights enjoyed by respective minorities. In other worxs same rights for Serb minority in Kosovo to Albanian minority in Presevo, Bujanovc and Medvegja

What Serbia has lost will not come back. And the 100 countries which have recognized Kosovo will not accept any "solution" under the respect of a independent Kosovo, among them Germany, UK, France, Italy and the US. Serbia knows that the prize for the EU-TALKS, not membership, is the recognition of Kosovo de facto, de jure is not the problem. This means, that Serbia will not further block (what means influence Russia and China) the admission of Kosovo to International Organizations. But also here starts the misunderstading of the Serbs. Such Organizations decide with its members about new memberships. And like Palestine in the UNESCO Kosovo has good opportunities to become a meber like in the World Bank/IMF as special organizations of the UN was done. The problem for Serbia is, that Kosovo will nothing giving the serbs, but the Serbs must give for unclear EU-talks everything. Dacic is threatening the own people that Serbia will "lose" Kosovo, if it is not "flexible", what only means, its ready for total capitulation. After this "flexible position" of Serbia Kosovo can expect a wave of new international recognitions, including some from EU-countries. The timewould work for Serbia, blocking Kosovo from enter the UN. But the Serbs have not seen the whole picture and are speaking about little more as nothing to gain.

Note: when Dacic refers to losing Kosova is refers to the north and some additional concessions for the enclaves and monasteries.

So these talks will lead to Kosovo joining UN and all major internatinal organisations without any objection from Serbia and in return Serbia wont be conditioned to recognize the state of Kosovo and get the EU accession talks date? Win-win situation if you ask me.

Who is soo naive to believe this nonsense. Any agreement will not between Serbs and Albanians, only between Serbia and Kosovo. It excludes Albania and the Albanians within Serbia today. The Albanians have long strategic targets, not to make agreements about the rights of some Serb pensioners in Mitrovica. At the end it will be an "ethnic clean" Kosovo, how long can the last Serbs refuse the permanent pressure form their Albanian neighbors? The Serbs have not the problem alone to lose Kosovo, they could lose Serbia one day.

It's very idiotic to belive that Kosova will end up with autonomy within Serbia. It's so far away from reality as it can be.

Kosova independece is an done deal and it is somthing that will not be disscused. Nobody beside Serbia expect such an thing.

Serbia should understand that 22 EU member states recognize Kosova as an independent state. I guess that makes it quite clear to Serbia what EU expect.

Serbia will have to and Will recognize Kosova independece. It's no other way to EU since Albanians will not accept an dialoug on the status of Kosova.

The Serbs have problems to know something about history at all. Never in the last 100 years a country which has declared the land as independent was going back to become a gain a part of the former country to which it belonged. Kosovo is away and only the way it happened against the International Law gives Serbia an advantage: Serbia can block Kosovo´s acceptance as real independent country by the UN. And this is the only possible solution: Green light for Kosovo in the UN and Green light for Serbia in the EU. All other small things are waste of time. And this was the way for Spain/Portugal to become EU-members, to finish the olf times of dictatorship.

Negotiations actually mean negotiating. All this BS that status has been resolved is nothing more than, well, BS. There is much to be negotiated. The good news is that we are closer to a resolution. Even though there are obviously plenty of countries recognizing Kosovo's independence, more do not. So, it is to everyone's benefit that a mutual agreement is reached. Clearly Serbia will not re-absorb Kosovo as a whole. It would be foolish to believe this. However, it is equally foolish to think that without Serbia's clear and unambigious approval of Kosovo's UDI that Kosovo will not function as a state. Any belief other than this is also foolish fiction. Kosovo needs Serbia and Serbia needs Kosovo. If Albanian Kosovars love the US so much, why don't you start acting like our culture. This would mean stop this foolish clan mentality and start thinking about practicality, including economic cooperation. What is, I ask, the actual benefit of forcing the norther Kosovo Serbs to remain in an Albanian state? I cannot see any. It's the same question one asked earlier; what is the purpose of people Kosovo Albanians in Serbia when they clearly do not desire to be ruled by Belgrade? I'm hoping for a just solution in which everyone will be as happy AS POSSIBLE and NO MORE.

You and a few others are constantly irked by hearing views that are not like yours and claiming this is a Serbian site. In reality it is not, as being printed in English it is to appeal to international non Serb readers. The Serbian site is for Serbs as no one else would be reading it or commenting there as very few people in the world speak Serbian other than Serbs. Which I have to wonder since you are such a hardcore Serb why you are not reading the Serbian version unless in reality you primary goal is to confront those who do not see things the same as you. In which case you should be encouraging the comments from others not condemning them.

It does indeed Peggy, not only about Albanians but the lack of comments from Serbs reflects confusion and frustration with Dacic's policy.

Under the previous government we had very little in terms of initiatives on Kosovo, despite what was seen as the odd defeat on the ground, what we basically had was a government policy of frozen conflict peppered with very basic negotiations. The 'alleged' idea was to keep Serbian control over current majority Serbian areas whilst maintaining the idea of Serbian sovereignty over all of Kosovo for the diplomatic battle in the international arena ie the principle of repeated over and over.

The new government appears to be dropping the principled position completely, which means it will recognise the fact that Serbia has lost control over most of Kosovo, albeit not officially signing such a document - at least not yet.

Had Tadic's previous government tried such a policy officially as this government is doing many in this forum would be dragging his name through the mud. There would be comments saying how offended the Russians would be, how if we dropped the sovereignty over all of Kosovo and international law arguments countries would all recognise Kosovo and everything would go to hell etc etc etc.

Maybe Dacic is calculating this correctly, if there is no opposition to him then he can do what he wants on Kosovo...

They beauty of b92 is it allows both party's to express there views not out of panic but out of expression it's a human right and perhaps just perhaps it can help reconcile people's views in our case Serbians and Albanians perceptions and falsehoods some don't even have enough knowledge or its superficial on both sides, but its enough that if it inspires others to dig deeper into there views and bring both communities closer then Im sure it's justified. Or had somebody got information about meetings of the top-officials in the US concerning Iran or otther main issues? And if you look on the faces of the Serb leaders, you see that they will not say the truth. It looks like capitulation without real war or real need. Wake Serb "elite".

Talks will be exclusively about returning Serbian refugees,Serbian estates and about security issues!

No UN,no recogniton and no compromise on our territorial integrity!

We Serbs know time is working for us and that we will reoccupy Kosovo,that is why Albanians are desperately rushing to get a deal:

again, not going to happen!


The only deal will be a save passage for all Albanians back to the Caucasus from there the Turks brought them here on Serb lands!

I think Kosovo has no objection to that. Vatican, for example, is not a UN member and is doing just fine on the recognition side.
