Until the 1219 all three Serbian Eparchies - Raška, Prizrenska and Lipljanska were under the jurisdiction of the Macedonian Arhiepiscopy in Ohrid.

Macedonian was the third honoured Archiepiscopy in absolute among the Churches, after Constantinople and Rome, during the reign of Emperor Justinian I the Great (527-565), who came from the village of Taor (Tavrision,Taurisium) near today's Skopje. There, near his birthplace, he built a new city called Justiniana Prima. Skopje Mitropolit at the time, Cathellian, was elevated to the rang of autocephalous Archbishop. He was the first Archbishop of the Archdiocese Justiniana Prima (later Ohrid Archiepiscopy).
