@ Rob the BulgarBecause someone has to stand up to bullies instead of allowing the bully to victimize again.

Serbia's PM Ivica Dačić has said that his meeting with Catherine Ashton and Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci was not a deviation from the state policy on Kosovo.

to be fair to Thaci Comm. (who has about as much charm as a mouse has wings), thus far, not one of the allegations against him have been shown to be true

PM Thaci just said it on prime time news that ;there was a handshake. Somebody is lying. Most likely the one does not want to admit it happened.Judge for yourself guys&gils.

You must mean the one that always claims that some crimes didn't happen, and allegations against him are only slander, right?

I'm guessing the ideal outcome of these talks for Dacic would be partition. He is openly for that position and will no doubt seek to make that idea amenable to all concerned. Let us see what he can do.
Up until recently, the West had obviously hoped to entice Serbia to recognize -- probably de facto -- Kosovo's independence (with current borders) by offering EU membership. However, things have now changed, and Serbia might just have enough leverage to get Brussels and Washington to allow such a move to go forward. Pristina is ostensibly resistant, but they can't really care that much about the north, and anyway, they would stand to get full recognition, and perhaps other concessions, in return.
As an aside, is there any chance that Dacic has privately made it clear to Thaci that, given the political fallout, handshakes are out of the question -- at least pending final agreement?

"Dačić also underscored that the meeting on Friday was in line with Serbia's policy, and that dialogues about Kosovo had been conducted before, in Rambouillet, for example.
"We must not be short of memory," he said.
Here you see the Serbian problems with the truth: in this time Ksosovo had not declared the independence from Serbia and was not recognized by other states.

Why don't outsiders just step aside and let the 2 sides go to war over the territory, the good old fashioned way? Losers walk. Serbs vs. Albanians.
pre 11 godina
Instead to look for the conimic future of the country in the North and West Serbia is looking backwards with useless "projects" with Albanians, known for her "econimic projects". Possibly the Dacic-highway will be the Serb-Albanian drug-motorway? It seems so.

Robert....
Without a mediator, neither side would have a civil negotiation. The Sudanese had someone there to be a referee!
No one noticed he said "Prime Minister Thaci" hmmm oh Nik did.

By the EU simply hosting such meetings demonstrates that kosovo* status is still in question. I'm surprised that the pristina authorities don't question the EU, on the motive behind these meetings.

"I told Thaci: 'Kosovo is yours as much as mine.' I was born in Kosovo," he pointed out.

what is it that Mr Dacic said? He held talks with the Prime Minister of Kosovo? well well now...his own words ladies and gentlemen

When asked if he had shaken hands with Thaci, Dacic said "it was not part of the protocol," stressing that there were no national insignia at the meeting.
It was not part of protocol, means is a big YES.
Besides, is nothing wrong to shake hands.
