A model for Serbia can only be a country which was really poor and found with cheap prices and low taxes the way to a top-country: Singapore or other destinations. Switzerland or Norway are years ahead and have special situations. Where are the Swiss banks in Serbia and where is the Norwegian wealt with oil/gas and Waterpower in Serbia? So first analyse corecctly and not mix apples with bananas

Serbia can follow Micheal Thomas' North Korean model of development and standard of living or it can follow the South Korean one.

Were you in South Korea during the recession of the 1990s when many Korean families gave up their children to orphanages because they could not afford to feed them?

I was there and I can tell you that it was not a very pretty sight. Not many in the west were ever made aware of the dire situation in that part of the world.

It was one of the worst examples of capitalism I have ever experienced – don’t get me wrong I’m not supporting a “north Korea’ style standard of living, it’s just that the EU is not in a better position.

"I don't know enough about North Korea to comment, but how about Serbia following the Swiss model or the Norwegian model? "
(Michael Thomas, 17 October 2012 22:04)

Oh, the swiss model, a real multi-ethnic state, with several languages, with a lot of autonomy for the cantons, a high developed industry?
The Norwegian model, becoming wealthy because of having enormous oil and gas resources, and the state investing the money earned by exporting these resources smartly and sustainable, and not wasting it on a bloated state bureaucracy?

Finally we have someone who is brave enough to tell the truth. On the question of what are the consequences? Not a blessed thing. If this was to occur say 10 years ago there would have been some consequences but there is nothing to fear as the EU is BROKE.

Since the Western-backed puppets took over Serbia, the national debt has tripled, unemployment increased, prices have shot up, and infrastructure crumbled.

I have been to Serbia many times before, during and after sanctions. I know many Serbs, including DOS riff-raff, and apart from the local Oligarchs, people are no better of now than they were in 1999.

If this is the treatment Serbia gets when the EU is being “nice” to them, then heaven knows what awaits Serbia should it ever make that foolish leap into EU membership.

Thank God the Croats are joining the EU. The EU will destroy Croatia (and Slovenia) and this should be a wake-up call to Serbs.

You don't need to be in the EU to build cars. what is this guy saying? Mexico makes Volkswagen cars and isn't in the EU. Serbia should look to trade with everyone, not one bloc or another.

Interesting how you never advised Serbia to follow the EU model.
(Michael Thomas, 17 October 2012 22:04)

Serbs aren't Swiss or Norwegians, nor can they follow any other European model.

What has the EU done for Serbia over the past 10 years? The country is in worse shape than when it was under UN sanctions. The EU has brought Serbia nothing good.

And what has the EU brought to Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, etc, etc? Bankruptcy and national ruin.

Serbia is not dependent on exports for its survival, it produces most of what it needs and it doesn't have a mass of unemployed to find work for. Agriculture, Infrastructure, Army and Police, Retail, Civil Service, and some Industry is enough to keep all Serbs in full employment.
