I'm sitting in Belgrade, Michael, in the office of the small business I opened here a few years ago.

I say again, Michael, it's morally untenable for you to tell Serbs that they should suffer because that would buttress your personal worldview.

Danilo

pre 11 godina

Michael.

On the contrary. Small business is the backbone of any economy. Like it or not, EU countries are Serbia's biggest trading partner. That's not going to change with changing your mind.

Anyway, you're just being silly. Your sitting somewhere in the west lecturing Serbs that they should suffer because it fits your worldview is morally untenable.

Michael Thomas

And where are you sitting right now, Danilo? You sound like the politcal attache in the Austrian embassy.

Countries have enemies, only a fool or a traitor could deny that.

Serbia's enemies are key members of the EU and, of course, the Americans.

Why should Serbia tie itself to the economic fortunes and political whims of its enemies?

Serbia does not rely on computer programmers and it should not rely on business with the EU. The EU are Serbia's mortal enemy. Luckily for Serbia the EU is a dying beast. When its gone, there will only be Germany to worry about.

I am sorry if you and your fancy friends will find it harder to travel, but what can you do if the Western Catholics and Protestants don't want you? Come to terms with your status, Danilo, you are, in the eyes of the EU, Untermensch (sub-human).

My guess is that you are a decent human being, superior to me in many ways. The Germans don't think as I do. When you understand this you will be in a better position to protect your future and the future of Serbia.

I could be considered an amateur comedian by some, because there are Albanians and Optor Serbs who could not laugh because of one possible future for Kosovo.

Again, very nice of you to make decisions for 8 million people where they should go. I know dozens of people that have taken little trips to Schengen countries last year for work and pleasure trips. I'll be sure to tell them "Michel says go to Ada. It will do". Tell that to a computer-programming company with a new client in Germany - Just go for a bike ride on Ada"

Serbia has done the Mathematics, and the cost of every fake Asylum Seeker is more than worth the Money for a few reasons, as far as the Serbian Government is concerned.

Since the Serbian Government, rather than the Serbian People wants to join the EU, then by sharing the cost of Europe’s Criminals with the EU, this makes it easier and quicker for Serbia to get a Date for EU ascension talks.

Every fake Asylum Seeker that is returned will be an Advertisement to the rest of the Kosovo Albanians, that Kosovo Albanians should forget this nonsense of Independence, and Fully Accept that they are Serbian Citizens who will then have Visa Free Travel to the European Union.

The biggest danger for the fake Asylum Seekers is that the Terrorist Provisional KLA Kosovo Authorities do not such People who say that they do not wish to be Criminals, and then they would then be Legitimate Asylum Seekers.

If those Albanians are returned to Serbia Proper as they say, even though all of Kosovo is Serbia Proper, then the European Union will be admitting that Kosovo Albanians are Serbian Citizens, and thereby, they will have Revoked their support for Kosovo’s Independence, and Albanians and OPTOR Serbs know that.

I consider myself an Amateur Journalist and an Amateur Analyst, who goes looking for the News behind the News, in order to contribute to the Public Debate.

I hope that we can agree to disagree without becoming disagreeable, because this is fitting in a Democracy.

It's not as if dropping the visa requirement has resulted in improvement in Serbia's economy and significantly increased the standard of living. It doesn't seem like the people are any happier overall, so what harm would it do to have them again if Serbia reverses other EU-pushed measures which have already hurt Serbia.
Serbia's not getting anything helpful overall with all these meetings and effort towards the EU. Serbia should stay out of the EU and stop following its dictates when it's not even in it in the first place.

Amer

pre 11 godina

The EU is going to have a fit if Serbia tries to prevent individuals, or even worse, certain ethnic groups, from traveling to Europe - you can't infringe on their human rights, after all. But what about the tour operators who send busloads of people straight to the countries most likely to accept asylum-seekers for extended periods? (I don't imagine the people are driving their own cars, or flying). They might need a new law - "conspiring to evade EU asylum regulations," or something of the kind. The last thing Serbia needs right now is to be cut off from the rest of the world, again.

You have a fair point about holiday makers, but it is not such a big deal for most people. If they can’t holiday in Greece, then Montenegro will do. If Montenegro is too expensive, then Ada Ciganlija will do.

I don’t want Serbia isolated; that is the goal of the Germans and Austrians. Serbs can pretend it isn’t so, but that changes nothing.

The EU is a bankrupt and dysfunctional organization for all its members, but for Serbia it is even worse. It is the EU that wants to isolate Serbia and eventually to destroy it.

The best thing for Serbia is to keep the EU at arms’ length. To do business with it when that makes financial sense; to visit it occasionally, but otherwise to keep a healthy distance from it.

Michael

pre 11 godina

What you can expect from Serb politicians? that they are speaking about non-existing "problems" or are making terrible stupid proposals. The idea to pay money for the "costs" of Serbs abroad is very dangerous: if Serbia is soo wealthy the country can pay for Srebrenica, Vukovar or whatelse. The Serb politicians have no education in a formal way and not by character. They are the representatives of the terrible people you can find in German tubes...terrorizing the people with their "music". Its "one family".

" Reintroducing visas will only affect the rich elite"

Where do you get that?

This will affect everyone who vacations in Greece, which is almost everyone, plus people who visit the EU. "The rich elite" are much more able to get visas. Ordinary Serbs, the vast majority of them employed in the grey economy have trouble proving that they are employed and so will have trouble getting visas.

Almost all of your posts, Michael, involve isolating Serbia in some way. This is kind of strange. Presumably you live in the west, so I'm not sure how you morally rationalize positions that would isolate Serbs without it having any practical effect on you.

Mark

The prime minister also said that the Serbian authorities had requested to be given lists of names of persons who had left the country to seek asylum in the EU.

Why? So you can persecute these people and their families even more than you already have?

Michael Thomas

pre 11 godina

Asylum seekers in Britain get free housing and money for living. For a single asylum seeker in London this will cost 15,000 euros for accommodation and 10,000 euros for food, etc. So each asylum seeker costs at least 25,000 euros a year. 10,000 asylum seekers would cost the Serbian government 250 million euros each year.

Leave the Roma and Albanians in the EU, they are no longer Serbia's problem. Reintroducing visas will only affect the rich elite, and their inconvenience is not worth 250 million euros.

Ma, Ivice, breeee. Why so complicated? Just pay the people at the Serbian-Hungarian border. 200 Euro per person. That saves the time for all of us. Is this not a brilliant idea, isn't it?

This comedy show gets better and better. Mini Slobo apparently gets cold feet. After trying to give a history lesson, he tries to bribe the same countries he was accusing yesterday. Apparently his skills in diplomacy and history are just as good as in Mathematics. Let's say each applicant costs 500 Euro a month (accomodation, food, administrative work, allowance, etc.). For 10000 applicants, currently, (lets cross the fingers that not more are coming, especially after that announcement), that makes 5 millions per month. Even a denied asylum takes weeks if not months to be processed. In average it circles around 4 to 6 months.

You really want to spend that money while still cutting funds/costs within Serbia? Don't you think that Kosovo and the clandestine Northern structure did eat up enough money? Just read the comments in the Serbian version of B92. It is simply entertaining..

PS: The majority of applicants is Roma. The German authorities confirmed that over 90% are from that group. Albanians are just a small proportion of it. And the Roma problem you will not solve. Not today, tomorrow or any time soon..
