This development is great news. US Steel bought the plant but ran it into the ground. Now I hope that the Russian steel company will make the plant cost effective thereby securing jobs as well as much needed investment for the local economy as well tax revenue for the government. Its a win-win all round.

The Steel works is not old; it was built in the 1970s and 80s and had the best technology of its day. Steel mills have not changed greatly since the Smederevo works were built.

Following the criminal DOS sale to US Steel, we were told that the Americans had invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the business. Is this true or was it just another DOS lie?

It sounds like the Russians want a similar deal to that given to the Americans. Why Serbia would give away such an asset is beyond my comprehension.

Privatization of Smederevo steelworks, was bad. U.S. Steel is purchased below cost. As soon as the crisis struck the steel mill is closed. One furnace was extinguished improperly and cost steel mill a lot of money. My opinion is that the Russians will run steel mill Smederevo much better.

Adem, what's your problem now? How is that a constructive comment?
The goal is to keep this industry running. And so, I'd welcome this. Afterall, the government bought it back for one dollar. If they sell it for two dollars and if it keeps people employed and much tax going in, perhaps even keeping some profits, then that would be a good thing, no?
