I’ve always said it. The vast majority that comment have no idea what is going on nor has anyone worked in Government, well at a level where you see how things are done. Yeah your right its good neighbourly relation – you stick with it.

Actually that would be good news, but that is something what Belgrade's politicians currently don't say. Otherwise, show me where they withdrew their EU application. I don't see it, just cry-me-river statements. Please do me a favor and withdraw EU application at once.

All of this is a prelude for Serbia backing out, but you have to find an excuse – I don’t have enough room here to explain why things happen this way but they do. There is NO benefit for Serbia to join the EU. Yes there was before the GFC because of the injection of cash but today the EU is broke

Here is your answer on consequences, NYET. You know what you can do with recent history. Why doesn’t the NATO windbags attack Syria? Because they are windbags of the highest order – all hot air and the worst are the Turks. Mother needs the UN.

How many have announced the move to Kosova??? Don’t worry who is relocating to Serbia. How many have moved to Kosova??? NOT ONE.

"Then what the f…. are the EU officials doing in Belgrade????"

The same what they do in all non-EU Europe. Enticing for good-neighborly relations and projecting that cooperation brings economically more than division and conflict. Actually very easily to understand.

"I’ve go bad news for you and Serbia will NEVER join the EU."

I know that some countries announced to invest in Serbia, those who find Romania and Bulgaria to expensive. Some countries like Bulgaria perform marvelously. They get investments from both, West and East.

sj, I'm not sure of you are joking or the joke itself. You tremendously over-exaggerate Serbia's importance and that for a reason which is very transparent and already mentioned. Serbia is easily replaceable by all surrounding nations. There is nothing what Serbia can offer what can't be find in other coutries. Your joke that Serbia is necessary for transit reasons as ridiculous as your indirect suggestion that Europe begs for Serbia's joining, by only sending EU beauracrats to Belgrade. Actually, it is hilarious that you even attempt to project such a picture, but it also tells us that you actually wet your pants. The 1990s were a trauma for almost all Serbs and you can easily receive it again, at least a light version of it. Just continue the current path and you will see it happen. And no, Bavarian politicians give a damn about you. They will push it, if necessary, and you can start lining up infront of Western embassies, while companies will decline to invest in this unstable country and chose Romania, Bulgaria or even Turkey over you. No problem at all..

Yes, sure, totally important. In case you don't know: There's a nice route via Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria. Google maps says (ask it for yourself if you don't believe me) that it is the shortest route. But there's at least a small piece of truth left in your statement: The route via Serbia takes indeed less time, 25h compared to 26h. But probably not for long, with some money spend for infrastructure in the new Eastern EU countries.

I don't think that Serbia and Fyrom should be held responsible for the large number of asylum seekers in countries as Germany, Sweden and Holland.

All asylum seekers from Serbia and Fyrom knows that they have no chanse of getting asyl but due to the generous money paid to asylum seekers and the long time they get to stay before being expelled it is worth it for the mostly Roma minority that uses political asylum as a way of making some money.
Compare these mentioned contries, Sweden, Germany and Holland with for example Finland. In the first countries they asyl seeker can stay to up for a year with full medical aid, school for children and generous compensation, often more than 1000 eur/ month. In Finland they get to stay 2 weeks and then out.
Is it any strange that they choose these countries? Is it Serbia and Fyroms fault???

Here is a challenge for the EU – cancel the visa free travel for Serbs. Yeah when pigs fly. They know it would be the last nail in the coffin for joining the EU as Serbs would turn their backs on mass.

I'm confused. Why would Serbians want to travel to the EU? They have (gasp) Gay Pride there. According to the Serbian PM, 80% of Serbs are against such things to the point of threatening to burn down their own capital city. If they avoid travelling to the EU, they wont have to see a rainbow flag or a Gay person with any rights.

I think requiring visas for Serbs to enter Schengen is a good idea. That way we can keep hooligans and those that advocate abuse of minorities out, while allowing those Serbs that want to be part of a civilized society to travel to the EU, the UK, the USA, and Canada. Seriously, if 80% of Serbians despise our values, then why do they want to travel here? I hear Belarus is fine vacation destination.

Among the top ten of the home countries of the asylum applicants, Serbia (currently 5th) is the only country which has a visa free regime with the Schengen countries. I'm wondering how long the authorities, especially in Germany (Bavaria), are going to tolerate that. Putting a country on the black list does not go fast, but suspension can happen any time and after that the path to black list is paved.
