Enough of your serbophobic bigotry Tom. Comparing Serbia to Hitler's Germany shows what a nasty piece of ignorant work you are. That's just cheap.

"Germany shoudld just offer permanant resident status to all of Serbia's gays and lesbians. problem solved!"

The Serbian way of solving problems with minorites, eh? Why not 'sexually' cleanse Serbia? The tradition of 'ethnic cleansing' worked fine in the last decades, didn't it?

And about Germany not being allowed to critizise because of its past (which is 70 years ago, and not only 20 years ago like in Serbia): No, this 'qualifies' Germany even more of being an observer and monitor of human rights of minorities, may it be religious groups, ethnical groups, or whatever.

Serbia is a member State of the Council of Europe and it should abide by the "rules" of freedom of assembly. The European Court has established on several occasions that is not acceptable for the threat of violence on any group excersising their right to assembly (in this case the staging of a Gay Pride) to be used as a reason to ban. It is up to Serbian authorities to allow the gathering - and to protect participants. Frankly, the ban on Gay Pride is an insult to the police and security services. Hopefully, the organisers of the banned Pride will take the matter through the Serbian legal system - and, if not successful, to the European Court of Human Rights is Strasbourg.

Guys, Serbia's Gays are severely persecuted. Violence against them is common. Jail time for those committing violence or advocating terrorism against them is unheard of. I am not aware of any jail sentence that was actually carried out for violence against a Gay Person or for terroristic threats.

Arguing that Serbia has a right to violently abuse its Gay population, or is somehow immune from criticism when it gives in to violent thugs by allowing them to cancel basic freedoms like speech, assembly, association, and petition for Gay Serbians, simply because the Serbian Orthodox Church/Dveri/Obkhaz/Dacic, etc. aren't putting Gay Serbians into death camps is not going to be an effective rebuttal.

Serbia today isn't as bad as Germany was during late period of Hitler's reign. But is that how you want to hang your hat?
And the worst thing is...Serbia has a much more recent experience in genocide than Germany does.

... but if Germany's gay and lesbian loving culture wants the Serbian people to change their beliefs that is crossing the line!
(robert1899, 5 October 2012 18:33)

You don't understand what a constitutional democracy means, do you? In a democratic society, the "belief" of the majority is not enough to strip a minority of their constitutional rights. They should start teaching this in Serbian schools so that at least future generations have a chance of living in a civilized society.

The German Foriegn Ministry should mind its own business, Germany's past record of persecuting and murdering gays is something that won't happen in Serbia. Germany has nothing to say on the issue and should shut up.

This coming from a country that sent gay persons to the gas chambers ?

Germany should mind it's own business, it was a mistake to allow the two Germany's to reunited, a powerful Germany can be a dangerous Germany.

I wasn't surprised that Germans criticized us. I suggest them to hold a gay parade in Berlin where all LGBT community from all over Europe would come. It might solve the problem. LGBT communities across Europe could meet each other, and exchange their experiences. In any case, it would be positive for all LGBT community.

The Germans are right. Serbia has given in to pressures from right wing hooligans and narrow minded anti-gay activists, which no doubt includes the church. Dacic might see this as a victory for Serbia. What he doesn't see is that this ban will cost Serbia dearly, not only morally but also economically.

If Germany wants Serbia to conduct financial reforms in order to enter the EU that is one thing, but if Germany's gay and lesbian loving culture wants the Serbian people to change their beliefs that is crossing the line.Germany shoudld just offer permanant resident status to all of Serbia's gays and lesbians. problem solved!
