Kosovo does not have institutions in the north so the Serbian authorities, that we call parallel, are legitimate, says Kosovo president’s advisor Ramush Tahiri.

i love how you only took parts of my argument and tried to dispute it, while not adressing the whole thing
(Aleks, 7 October 2012 01:17)

I did not just try, I actually did dispute it and you still did not show how the UNSC can block somebody from becoming a UN observer.
----------

the fact is and you very well know it there is no chance in hell that kosovo will ever be independent or a member of the un ..
(Aleks, 7 October 2012 01:17)

Kosovo is already independent from Serbia, dear. Even Serbia accepts it when it says that UNMIK (not Serbia) is in charge in Kosovo.
----------

and you also happened to forget that more than half of the un does not recognize kosovo so your observer status has just gone out the window,
(Aleks, 7 October 2012 01:17)

I have asked several times, but nobody has ever listed the names of the 97 countries which have said that they do not recognize Kosovo. I tried very hard and could not find more than 20-30 countries that have said they do not recognize Kosovo. But you are more than welcome to fill the rest of the gap.
----------

and i havent even mentioned that there are two un security council members that support serbia and that can use their veto at any point
(Aleks, 7 October 2012 01:17)

Sure, they can use the veto for things that require a UNSC resolution, but UN observer status does not require that; just a simple majority vote of the UNGA is sufficient and there are no vetoes there. Sorry to disappoint you :)

how on earth is kosovo going to get a un seat??
(Aleks, 6 October 2012 18:18)

Certainly not by implementing the famous "more-than-autonomy-but-less-then-independence" :)
----------

kosovo cant even get observer status cuz the majority (9/15) members of the security council support serbia on the issue and for kosovo to get observer status it would need at least nine votes, so your argument is thrown out the window...
(Aleks, 6 October 2012 18:18)

You are so confused, dear... the UN observer status is granted by a simple majority vote of the UN General Assembly. The Security Council has no role in the matter.

how on earth is kosovo going to get a un seat?? serbia would never drop its argument cuz that would be then end for serbia's political leaders career's and the constitution forbids them from doing that ... kosovo cant even get observer status cuz the majority (9/15) members of the security council support serbia on the issue and for kosovo to get observer status it would need at least nine votes, so your argument is thrown out the window... if kosovo can't even get into the Olympics or some sports federations then how could it possibly get into the un, face it there's too many countries opposing its independence compared to let's say palestine and south Sudan who have more recognitions than kosovo in a shorter amount of time ... after four years you have got to realize that kosovo is not going anywhere, it will remain in a stalemate and it will bleed itself dry as it is a black hole filled with crime and corruption .. and another thing, you obviously dont know serbian history if you think that kosovo will never get inegrated back into serbia, just look at serbia's history and tell me otherwise, they have always been able to regain their territory and some more from their enemies whether its the ottomans, austro-hungarians, nazis/fascists and kosovo will be no different .. I'll tell you one thing that i am sure of kosovo has a better chance of reintegrating into serbia then it does of ever becoming independent and gaining its own seat at the un

Does this mean the government in Kosovo is not legitimate, because it was not elected by the people, but came into power by election fraud?

Wow you really told Mirel et al., didn't you? The only thing is you told her your dreams and not reality.
As far as a UN seat, that probably will depend on Serbia's future reaction. However, if Serbia drops its arguments inorder to get into the EU then it will also clear the way for Kosovo to join the UN. Worse case scenario Kosovo may have to become an observer state for a few years.
Reintegration of Kosovo into Serbia will never happen, never. Serbia and Kosovo sometimes in the future becoming a part of a larger entity is possible.
Finally as much as you want to count it and nothing I say will make you admit it but you have 92 countries that definitely support Kosovo, you have 30-40 that definitely support Serbia, the rest have yet to make a formal decision. One reason Serbia does not force the issue while Kosovo still has less than 1/2 UN members recognizing. If Serbia forces these countries to make a stand there is a good chance many of them will side with Kosovo and officially put Serbia in the minority.

Aleks

@Mirel

Seriously are all you Albanians this delusional or do you simply lack basic intellect and common sense?? Let me make this perfectly clear for all you Albanians out there and I will try to make it as simple as possible for you so that you can understand ... Kosovo will NEVER have a seat at the UN as an independent country, the only way it is represented at the UN is through Serbia, whereby Kosovo is a province of Serbia's ... What can't you get?? There are two veto wielding members ready to use their veto on Kosovo and don't forget Serbia has the majority of countries supporting it not only in the UN but on the UN Security Council (9/15) ... No Serbian leader would ever be stupid to accept that deal and the fact is that they won't be able to because the constitution forbids them from doing that, not to mention they will be ruined and their careers finished ... face it kosovo can't even get into any international organizations, sports federations or the olympics, let alone the UN ... the Serbian leaders have already said if it comes down to choosing between the EU and Kosovo they will choose Kosovo, so you Albanians are pretty much out of luck .. Kosovo will be in a stalemate and it eventually will collapse as Serbia can outlast it easily .. face it the only integrating there will be is all of Kosovo back under Serbia's control with some autonomy given to Kosovo

Tahiri said without these structures there would be anarchy in northern Kosovo and that “is why there must be communication with these people who have legitimacy, because they were elected by the people”.

Does this mean the government in Kosovo is not legitimate, because it was not elected by the people, but came into power by election fraud?

Wow B92! Another day, another misinformed article.

1. Ramush Tahiri never uttered the word "legitimate", I'm sure you guys would have loved that. He said that they were the only real institutions.

2. He (Tahiri) is not an "official" but an advisor to the president.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with him, you can't call them parallel when you don't have your own legitimate institutions. Parallel implies they are operating along side the legitimate ones.

If you actually stopped causing a problem for the Serbian population below the Ibar to use those same Serbian institutions then, there could probably be some sort of compromise despite what each side believes they are owed.

I thought it was impossible, because God know's a partition at the Ibar is not justice. But maybe, just maybe there are pragmatic Albanians after all.

Lets hope, either we have to be ready for whatever.

What he's saying is those structures are legitimate but within the framework of Pristhina govt. They were elected by the people and their will should be respected. NOthing wrong with that. If Serbia acted the same way in the 90s much bloodshed would have been avoided.
