"As for why doesn't the LGBT community organize pride events in Kosovo, I really have no idea. I don't know that they aren't either. I can't say I have much interest either way. If/when they choose to, I support them."

well, it has struck me as remarkable that while many have posted negative comments about Belgrade when it came to gay parades, including pro-Albanian posters, everyone stayed silent when the suggested venue is "Kosova". Seems to me there's double standards going on.

"Like I said to ecoman, I since I don't live in Kosovo and have visited only once, it's kind of abstract and hard to care about."

well, I don't think many Serbians feel same the way that you do.

"Definitely doesn't have much to do with Belgrade, whatever the case.
(Danilo, 4 October 2012 13:56)"

well, again, methinks many Serbians would disagree with you that "Kosova" doesn't have much to do with Belgrade.

I'm glad to hear the gay parade is banned. It's a relief that Serbian police won't lose an eye and get concussed and broken bones again. These gay parades are fraudulent parades: parades should be about celebration, spectacle or something that brings joy to the people where the parades take place. They should also be family/child friendly since they are in a public space out in the open.

Let me tell you about an interesting phenomenon in Romania: the forums are invaded by an "army" of gay-"modern" supporters. They are so many, that it seems that whole of Romania has changed. It would seem that we gave up on Orthodoxy in just 22 years of democracy... And they tell you about how modern and wonderfull are the countries where gay and depravaty has accepted as normality. And how "backward" are the "stupid" orthodox romanians, that don't wanna give up their beliefs. And they invade the forums with images of priests, that they say are rich and corrupt. And then they tell us that we have to go forward and keep orthodoxy out of public life and that we're building too many churches. It would seem that the're aren't anymore Christians in Romania. And then, the census came. With all their propaganda, their money and aggressiveness, out of 20 million Romanians, just 0,2% declared themselves...atheists or agnostic. Less than 20.000 people. That's how it is in Serbia too. A small minority is trying to terrorize you. May God bless you leaders for defending your faith.

Nope, just a guy who thinks homophobia is utterly stupid, like a lot of other heterosexual people in the real world.

But I guess that's the problem right there: right-wingers like you don't live in the real world. You're the same in any country, it's just that, unfortunately for places like Serbia, Russia, Croatia, etc, you still have the backing of the government. No doubt you're perfectly proud and satisfied with things as they are, but look at your country. It's a mess, and no wonder. There are clearly still a lot of right-wingers like you living there -- you've just voted in a bunch of Milosevic and Seselj protégés to take it "forward"!

Well, since I don't know all Serbs, I guess you're right. I should have said "why do MANY Serbs, particularly on this forum..."

As for why doesn't the LGBT community organize pride events in Kosovo, I really have no idea. I don't know that they aren't either. I can't say I have much interest either way. If/when they choose to, I support them.

Why do Serbs love to compare themselves with people in a worse-off situation than themselves? This is a loser's mentality. I'm better off than the drunk that's always babbling by the fountain at bajlonova piaca, but I don't take some sort of pride or solace in that, as I'm constantly striving to be better than I am now.

btw, there was a Pride festival in Tirana with no incidents, so Serbia is at the bottom of the barrel on this issue.

As for "why don't they hold a parade there"? They will as soon as the locals organize one, just like it's Serbs who are the "they" organizing the one in Belgrade.
(Danilo, 4 October 2012 12:40) "

In the first place, I would think your "why do Serbs love ....." is a stereotypical generalization of an entire ethnic group's trait that remains to be proven to date, and which certainly you are not able to provide the proof.

And I wasn't asking about Tirana. As for gays in "Kosova", I'm wondering what's delaying them from organizing their parade? Fear perhaps?

(T. Niskanen, 3 October 2012 20:17)

My thoughts exactly. Stay far, far away from such a backward place. If only people speaking out against gays had any kind of self awareness...

But you know, it's exactly this kind of mentality that has cost Balkan countries so dearly over the years. Look at what the Serbs have suffered: war, loss of territory, poverty, the incarceration of virtually all their revered politicians and military heros from the 1990s...

I still can't believe that it took a fundraising drive (many thanks to B92) to get incubators into Serbian hospitals. What does that tell you about the standard of living in Serbia?

The world's most peaceful, prosperous nations (such as Finland) don't have a problem letting gays parade through their cities. They're also a lot more fun to visit, by the way. I've seen Belgrade, Zagreb, Podgorica...they simply don't compare to Amsterdam, London, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Paris...

But hey, whatever. I know the right-wingers don't care and don't get it. They're like the toothless bigots in rural America who still hate blacks...Jews...gays (of course)...Latinos...dentists...affordable, government plans that sponsor dental care...you get the idea.

Best of luck, Serbia. I hope Russia gives you all you need (ha ha).

The more vocal a person is on the perversion of homosexuality and how disgusting it is the higher the probability that there is a booty boy in the background, and this is just smoke to throw the hounds off course.
Truly 100% heterosexual people have no fear from homosexuals, it is those with tendencies they must control that live in fear, not from the others but because they fear themselves.

Dear Serbian Government - the next time you ask Canada why Serbian citizens still need visas to come to my country, look at your own actions. Canada is a modern, progressive and forward thinking country, where we have laws against hate-crimes and hate-speech and where we recognize gay marriage and fight to protect the rights of all Canadian citizens.

Serbian extremists are being challenged and have no option but to ban that which shows them how pathetically restrictive is their narrow mentality.

The homosexuals are generally unobnoxious, but they are doing a good job at winding up those who need to be wound up.

All the Gays from all the nationalities, Serbia, Kosovo, Croatia, Bosnia etc,,, Are not recognized in the same way as Gays and Lesbians in the west.

We all have come across them in our countries as all of us knew at least 2 or 3 of them by name, people did not accept it but that was the case. ,,,They were gays,,, As a Heterosexual i know the reality is that in our culture we are not used to this Now, but in the future we will see people relaxing their views about this issue. I say, If they want to celebrate? Let them do it, Heteros do not have to go and cheer them.
I know I WOULDN'T, BUT it would NOT bother me if they had their Parade.

Wow, six articles on the gay parade in one day. I wonder whose agenda this is? This should be a non-issue in Serbia because it simply is not supported. However, we can see external powers imposing it.

Serbs in general don't have an issue with gay people (and neither do I) but there is a difference between expression and provocation. We can see the latter in action here and now. This perverted exhibition with photos mocking Christ really is disgusting and has no place in public.

In a way you are correct. Religion is becoming increasing popular across Serbia and many former communist states, especially in the Orthodox world. We are not united by NATO or the EU but by religion. I read many Romanians and Bulgarians supporting Serbs as Orthodox brothers.

What we are seeing now is an attack on religion by attempting to force through an extremely contentious issue. Look at what Pussy Riots did, completely disgusting. That is the kind of religious respect we can expect from the same people pushing this unpopular gay parade.

I will always support our culture, religion and way of life because in its true way, it doesn't harm anyone. So attempting to force something foreign into this culture is simply incompatible.

"It is very important for the credibility of Serbia to show the strength of the state. And this does not amount to any kind of capitulation before some who think they can use their paramilitary or any other threats to endanger the holding of public gatherings - it means that it has been assessed that, at this time, serious violations of public peace and order could occur, which would seriously jeopardize interests of the citizens and the state as a whole."

What a smartass. He contradicts himself in two adjacent sentences! Yes, violations of public peace could occur, and so the Serbian state decided to capitulate before the hooligans and extremists who are the ones that endanger the holding of public gatherings and who could cause violence and disturb the public peace.

On the other hand, Serbia is not alone. Germany and other western countries capitulated before violent Islamist extremists, banned exhibitions and stopped some campaigns instead of defending the freedom of speech and art.

1. It's time for the LGBT people to start protecting themselves. They should form several vigilante groups, learn martial arts and then start patrolling the streets.

2. Whenever Dveri members, Red Star and Partisan fans, municipal or state employees, farmers, hairdressers, bus drivers, anyone or any organization wants to assemble in town or march thru the town, including any political party, the LGBT vigilante groups must threaten these gatherings by violence. Then Dačić - or who ever weakling is in "power" - must ban all these gatherings, including of his own party, because the risk of violence is not only possible but guaranteed.

3. Lots of noise here about traditional values. If these noisy neanderthals had educated themselves a bit more than by watching Sylvester Stallone and Chuck Norris films they would know that Serbian orthodox church used to give unofficial blessing to (male) homosexual couples way back some hundreds of years (and that's the era when a number of traditions were born).

4. Once again, LGBT people. You need to fight for your rights. State is weak and cowardly. The mob is ignorant and arrogant. Don't let these two subjugate you.

Did you really just type this ? So what about being bisexual? Its a sick choice people make. They are so bored with their lives that they deviate from the norm and start sticking things up their bum to satisfy themselves. Again I ask what about bestiality? Is that something you are born with or did you choose that? Where is their parade? AS I said before, when this angers danilo, bob, comm.parrason, bganon, roberto & tom in lazybrook then you know it is a victory for Serbs.

what is it with these religious nutcases? Homosexuality has been around a lot longer than Jesus! for that matter it has been around before God decided to make contact via Moses! I am not going to slate Serbia on this (on this issue Albanians and Serbs stand together sadly) because it is more than likely a Balkan disease, to believe that homosexuality is a choice as opposed to a biological condition (demonstrated by science quite readily). I don't believe anyone has a say on their sexual orientation, people are born straight or gay. to discriminate against that (it happens in both Serbian societies and Albanian ones) is frankly fascist

Like I said, coordinate the Pride parade with angry Bus Plus users and you'd get a well attended march. Add all those who want to legalize marijuana and you'd have a million man march. Attempt to ban it then, you'd have a social uprising. What we have now is little more an the cancellation of an event no one really cares about and another 15 minutes of fame for Ceda and Kandic to complain about the state of affairs in a country they have no credible influence in :)

But I guess that's the problem right there: right-wingers like you don't live in the real world.
