A failed state like Serbia would do a big favor to the EU by not joining it as the EU has enough troubles on its own.

Reply to poster (need more?, 3 October 2012 15:44)

I’m talking about objective and widely accepted criteria for a failed state, not your questionable ones. If Serbia’s wages are a criterion, where does that put “Kosova”??? And choice of public holidays is a criterion of a failed state??????? Serbia has given away EVERY asset and so has none left – please provide proof of this to substantiate your claim -- and this is therefore a widely accepted criterion for an objectively failed state????etc ALL of Serbia's former leaders are or had been in the Hague????? I didn't know that the likes of Tadic and Kostunica were there??? etc etc -- objectively I would submit to you that the only thing failed here is your logic!

And no thank you, I certainly don't "need more" of your absurdities.

By the way, I’m not Serb, not Serbian citizen. Actually I’m not even in the Balkans.

And icj1 has decided to lay low on this one up to now as I read the posts.

The worst part in all of this is that Albania has beutiful shores but they are so filthy that its a hazard to swim there. Access to the sea and still poor and undeveloped. Good job!
(MikeC, 3 October 2012 18:33)

Yea seeing that you never set foot on the country I guess that makes you an authority and an expert. There's some polluted beaches out there. You just gotta now where to go dude. Head south and the riviera and you're set. If you stay in Durres than of course the beach is not as good as down south, but then the Bronx beaches are not comparable to those of Florida.

Easy cowboy! Did I strike a nerve? Yeah, Serbia doesn't have direct access to the see. Niether do k-albs, neither do the swiss, austrians, chechs, hungarians etc. But thank God there are planes that have enabled people to get access to the sea in just a couple of hours. The worst part in all of this is that Albania has beutiful shores but they are so filthy that its a hazard to swim there. Access to the sea and still poor and undeveloped. Good job!

Why is Serbia a "failed state"? What is the criteria for a "failed state"?
(lowe, 3 October 2012 12:35)
Lets see, maybe because wages are the lowest in Europe, one of your biggest holidays is celebrating a battle You LOST, You wear a banner proudly 1244, which is a UN resolution that not only strips you of all political, economic, military control over your former province, it established security forces whose primary purpose is to keep you out.
Your politicians have no clue how to fix the problems in Serbia so they ring the Kosovo nationalist bell and you all sit at a barren table talking about how lucky you are. Your former leaders are all either have been or currently are in the Hague, and you turn around a elect their biggest supporters. You have given every asset you have to another country---anymore?

probably not worried

pre 11 godina

I don't quite think "worried" is the appropriate word. Maybe concerned because they probably need to create new strategies, possibly funneling funds set aside for Serbia to other countries. Maybe focusing on an accelerated admission process for other balkin countries, or finally pressuring the 5 to recognize and bring Kosovo inside if not as a fully functioning member possibly an unprecedented EU protectorate status.
Quite possible after the economic news of late the feeling is more a sigh or relief and not worry.

No need, everyone does fine (especially the Kosovo Albanian mafia groups) with the current statrus of Kosovo being an UN protectorate.

Ecoman
Ecoman the great achievement of Albanians is that they keep their identity in the middle of dominant and outnumbered cultures and populations like Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Slav occupation of Balkan and Ottoman Empire. Only the Diaspora of Italy of last 20 year has 25 five Albanian writers appreciated by Italian public. So please don’t use your ignorance on one the topic as argument. In the list below are some prominent Albanian to understand that this small nation has born a lot of mans and women to be proud of.

Yea because in no other country in the world such concepts exist. You know terms such redneck, yanks, white trash don't exist in the US for example. Cmon dude this crap is the same in Serbia. Belgrade ppl feel like they're the $hit while others are village idiots. Northen Italians say the same crap about southern italians. It is called being human. ecoman, what on earth is this hatred of Albanians for? I can turn that around really easy, we have NEVER caused a war, that is one thing we have to be proud of. lets exams your record now, at war with Croats, at war with Bosnians and finally at war with Albanians. let me tell you something about me, I take ZERO pride in being Albanian because I'm not a jingoist. just as the founder of the state of Egypt happens to be Albanian or for that matter Ferid Murati (a noble prize winner in Medicine) is Albanian, however, neither of those achievements are mine, so for me, there is no point in taking credit for other peoples work. we may share the same nationality, but thats down to chance and coincidence. I like to take pride in my own PERSONAL accomplishments, not OTHER peoples. if you think you should be proud of purely and simply being Serbian, then i will suggest that there is something wrong with you

Albanians get along with each other just perfectly, regardless of their religious views, or lack there of.
On the other hand, Orthodox Serbs don't get along with Muslim Serbs.
I guess it must be a Serbian thing.
(cry me a river, 2 October 2012 19:11)

You are right--it is a Serbian thing.
The reason you Albanians get along so well is thanks to Tsar Dushan's Code which the Serbian Empire enacted in 1349
when it held all of Albania. "Noel Malcolm speculates that an article in Dušan's Code was an early attempt to clamp down on the self-administered customary law of the mountains, as later codified in the Kanun of Lek Dukagjin, and if so, this would be the earliest evidence that such customary law were in effect."

This is a usual thing before negitiations for sides to rigit their stance.
Serbia will start saying this things and Kosova will do the same.Look a Thaci's statement.
The same happened with the previous gonverment of DS.
But when the negotiations will start their stance will change and it is going to be a compromise for a economic authonomy for North in exchange of UN seat for Kosovo without officially recognise it.
Eevrybaody is happy coz Kosovo will preserve its territory and Serbia will have influence in the North without recognision of Kosovo.
When the time comes after 3-4 years,Serbia will sign the agreement with Kosovo about being good neighbors.
Nikolic and his supporters will be happy coz they will not have to officially recognised Kosovo, eveth though in that time Kosovo will be recognised by all EU members and probably by all UN members - Serbia.

there there now Jeff. take it easy on us. Nikolle, can you ever post without being condescending or sarcastic? What is this trait with you? I have noticed it in many Albanian posters here. In any case, Jeff's remark is on target. What do Albanians have to be proud of during their existence on the Balkans? Can you tell me what great achievements they have made in science, literature, social improvement, sports, medicine, anything? I think you had one good boxer, I think. What is this respect that you all of a sudden demand from neighboring nations? You land theft in KiM only proves that you are simply a people that only takes from others, and contributes zero to the world. Albanians have always attached themselves to other powers to reek benefits, that is how most of you became muslims by the way. It was the Ottomans, then the German and Italian Nazis, and finally leeching onto the US and NATO. When have Albanians ever stood on their own feet? Respect, Nikolle, must be earned, and Albanians have earned nothing. Zero. You can point to Milosevic all you want, but you have an accused organ-harvestor leading your pathetic crime infested Kosova. Is that to be proud of. Just Google the Snake, and you will get more hits than you can possibly read on his criminal activities. So please, do not point your finger at others, when your own is as dirty as hell.

as for the rest of your Islamic points, no doubt that Islamism is a threat. what i will say however, is that the Kosovar issue is NOT religious. if it was, you would not have Catholic Albanians supporting independence too. nor what you have the majority of Muslim states, or states with Muslim majorities support Serbia and not recognize Kosova

one problem they did not get Kosovo, not even close and no chance in the future. I agree with the rest and they just increased their suffering for nothing.
The most this is going to gain the Serbs is they will still be able to say that Kosovo is theirs, the people who believe it now may continue to do so, but most of the sphere of countries around Kosovo will continue to disagree. It also insures that UNSC will remain in force and the UN will be obligated to support EULEX and KFOR prohibiting Serbia from interfering with the govt and territory of Kosovo. It will also increase hardships on Serbs living in Kosovo because their future still is an unknown.
I also see where your new person for Kosovo says that the Kosovo bonus should be increased to cover all Serbs living in Kosovo, a fantastic idea, of course those funds will be funneled through his office. Not to hint that anything would happen to them because correption does not happen in Serbia.

Michael

President has EU diplomats "worried"...only media in Serbia would report this. No daily in Western report if some "diplomats" are worried, nobody is interested in their feelings...within the EU the contacts are conducted directely between the important people, diplomats are playing a more and more less role. But on the other side it is a good signal if these "diplomats" are worried. The EU-diplomats in Belgrade are not advocates of Serbian interests, they are advocating the interests of their countries: to get much as possible from Serbias wealth for zero and influence in the governing bodies in Serbia. So it is a signal if they are worried that the Serbian president is coming up with the right steps to see first the Serbian interests. But dailies like danas are not defending Serbia interests and would like to satisfy only foreign interests. The new German ambassador in Belgrade is so fresh in Belgrade that he can only know some very easy basics. An intelligent ambassador would not come up with great statements so fast. But his name is Wilhelm and possibly is parents were great fans of the terribe emeror Wilhelm II who mad the worst comments.

The reason you Albanians get along so well is thanks to Tsar Dushan's Code which the Serbian Empire enacted in 1349

Unfortunately for all of you fanatic Serbians, there is no Radical Islam in Balkans. I know you Serbs wish that did exist just so you can justify your genocide from the 90's. Fact of the matter is we Albanian Christians and Muslims get along just fine. We are the primary example that religions can co-exist within out societies. Every holiday we participate at one another's gathering out of respect. I can't say the same about Serbs, Christ what it stands for has been abused by Serbians. We all know that, so don't waste your time claiming that you were defending Christ. Exactly how many Croats were Muslims? All the ones that you have killed and tortured? Burned their houses and churches. What part of Christ were you saving Jeff? I know you're a Serb too so don't fool yourself.

The EU will persist until it achieves their image of what the entire European continent should look like. All these wars, all these allies, all this meddling in other countries' affairs, has nothing to do with humanitarian help, or political, judicial reforms - it has to do with creating an Europe how the Brussels heads want. Unfortunately, the EU is now in big trouble, and it is not the panacea of social and economic woes for struggling nations. I am not sure where these former radicals/socialists are taking Serbia, but in any case, slow it down, and make good choices that will benefit Serbia, and not just the EU. As for KiM, it will be there just like it always has, there is no rush there either. Sooner or later, the West will tire of the billions spent there, with little to show for, and may re-evaluate its investments there. The world has changed since the late 90's, and there are more strategic places of interest around the world, than Kosovo.

The so called Diplomats of the European Union claim that they are worried, because they think that the Serbian Government is delaying matters as regards Serbia joining the European Union.

The EU by means of its Proxy Lithuania, is delaying matters, because Lithuania which is the last Puppet Obstacle promised to Implement the SAA Agreement with Serbia 3 months ago.

America by means of its Proxy the EU have not as yet scrapped the Kumanovo Agreement, and the Kosovo Albanians should demand that the Kumanovo Agreement is scrapped, because otherwise they are Declaring that they are Puppets, and because the Kumanovo Agreement must be scrapped before Serbia and its Province of Kosovo can join the European Union.

The Kosovo Albanians need Proper Leadership, and they need their suspected Criminals to retire, because the Albanians know that there is only a little time left to get on the EU Titanic before it goes down, and this means Full Cooperation with Belgrade.

No need, everyone does fine (especially the Kosovo Albanian mafia groups) with the current statrus of Kosovo being an UN protectorate.

Eloquently stated, Nikolle.

"P.S Let me know when you get a sea."

Good job!

A failed state like Serbia would do a big favor to the EU by not joining it as the EU has enough troubles on its own.
(icj1, 3 October 2012 05:07)

Careful there boy! You are pushing up against your 25w limit and you risk blowing out. Are you screw cap or bayonet?

probably not worried

I don't quite think "worried" is the appropriate word. Maybe concerned because they probably need to create new strategies, possibly funneling funds set aside for Serbia to other countries. Maybe focusing on an accelerated admission process for other balkin countries, or finally pressuring the 5 to recognize and bring Kosovo inside if not as a fully functioning member possibly an unprecedented EU protectorate status.
Quite possible after the economic news of late the feeling is more a sigh or relief and not worry.
