This is pretty simple:

1. The constitution guarantees the freedom of assembly

2. Homosexuality is not banned by the constitution or other laws

Either Serbia has to change one of these two, or the government will be in violation of the constitution and the principle of rule of law if it does not ensure the right of the Serbian LGBT population to exercise their rights according to the law.

As for there being violence in other countries, you are right, but nothing compares to the violence in Belgrade. You can't find another example of 500 people marching around one block and 5000 police needed to protect against 6000 thugs who came to kill.

I am very curious about possible gay parade in Prishtina.

MikeC, your question has been answered many times.

There will be a Pride parade where you mention when the locals organize one. It's Serbian gays that want a Pride parade; the EU is supporting the right of free assembly.

If you want a gay parade in Sarajevo so badly, go organize one.

And what are you and the rest of the albanians who live in Kosovo? What school did you finish? Bachelor of Arts in Human Trafficing/dugsmuggling. Or a PHD in making pizza?

By the way, when is a pride parade going to be held in:
1. Bosnia
2. Montenegro
3. Kosovo
4. Albania

So before you chickens start to cluck at Serbia for not respecting gay rights take a good and long luck in the mirror fist.

All the pro paraders are people living abroad,
All the anti paraders are living in Serbia.
Please respect the wishes of people that live here, and stop telling King Ivica how to run this kingdom.

When Serbs leave Serbia they start to educate themselves and see things differently. That's why they support 'pride parade'. Those Serbs who still live in Serbia (even though majority of them would leave Serbia if they could) are uneducated people.

My guess: the parade will be held. Last year, Dacic was preparing to run for election, and preventing the parade was a sop to the nationalists, similar to the arrests on years-old warrants of Albanians crossing the border into Serbia. This year, he'll be wanting to demonstrate to the EU that everything is under control, a few threats of disorder in the streets isn't enough to cow the state he now leads. That "successful exercise" staged by the special forces the day the after the cancelled march only pointed up how ridiculous he was willing to make himself - before the elections.

Poland has had Pride parades in recent years. Italy it's not a problem. The EU doesn't need to put pressure on those countries (anymore) because the rights of free assembly and association are upheld in those countries.

Is this really still a question? How many years will it take for Serbs to enter the 20th and 21st century with their thinking? Don't you think it's time to join the modern world? You can no longer look to the past for answers. Whatever beliefs and reality existed centuries ago does not apply today, since our science and knowledge has evolved. Time for politicians and average people to step up their understanding of fact and science and accept reality, but also to not live in fear of crazy people with weapons. What kind of a society do you want? Do you want to live in fear or do you want to be able to go outside and do what you want as long as you're not hurting anyone. Come on already, grow up. Why does anyone care anyway? Improve your own life, demand change in your society, stop placing anger and frustration onto other groups. Be responsible.

Every year the same story happened. EU pressure Serbia for gay pride. But, there is no pressure on Poland and Italy. Only on Serbia. And it's really has nothing to do with human rights. It's a different story.

Human rights are to work, to learn, to eat, to live... Sexual orientation is private thing! They have their houses and beds and there are their rights! Not on the street! So you must be a gay! I'm sorry... You dont't know the difference between mother and father! Poor you...

"We are either a country or just resemble a country," he remarked, adding it was wrong to think the government would be frightened by blackmails and threats of violence during the pride parade.

Well, exactly for these reasons (threats of violence by hooligans and nationalist extremists) the parade was banned last year. So we'll see if Serbia still only 'resembles a country' this year, under the new government.

To put things in the right perspective, one must consider that Dacic owns the hooligans who would supposedly be violent. And he also owns the police who would protect against those hooligans.

FDR (The late President of the USA, Roosevelt) once said; "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" What exactly, if anything, has Belgrade (or Serbia for that matter) have to fear from a bunch of homosexuals prancing around Belgrade's town centre in tight G-strings? Well, someone better tell me otherwise since I can only think that our citizens might actually enjoy the whole spectacle so much, (as they do in Amsterdam, LA, San Fransico, Bangkok, Berlin and other civilised centres of the world), that Belgrade will have to have a gay parade every year. Belgrade should come out in force to support this event and show those tight arse politicians, hypocritical church leaders and numbskulled hooligans that freedom of sexual orientation is just as much part of the 21st century as is freedom of religion, speech and democracy.

The EU isn't demanding that a pride be held. The EU is demanding that the right to hold it be upheld.

The EU will make the same demands of other countries wishing to join the EU when locals try to organize on.

It's Serbian gays demanding that the parade be held and the EU demanding that freedom of assembly be upheld.

I would simply tell the EU, because they are the ones that are demanding the Pride parade so much, that when CG, Albania, Macedonia, Sarajevo, and KiM organize and hold a Pride parade, so will BG. Why are demands made on Serbia, and not on other Balkan nations? Croatia is going into the EU, and there is still plenty of violence and rejection of Pride parades there.
