"Thank God that the European Commission is not recommending a start date. Just watch croatia suffer once its in the EU."

... and anyway, the grapes are sour.

If anyone was in any doubt that it is not only the Kosovo issue that is a barrier for EU membership talks then this report should convince them. 30 chapters all relating to different areas of competence from education, agriculture through to banking and economic competence and most have 'a mildly critical tone'. Even if Belgrade recognised Kosovo's full independence tomorrow they would still need to improve their performance in many other areas. Personally, from the inside (of the EU) looking out, I wonder what is in this for the majority of Serbs. Those either retired or approaching retirement will almost certainly see their pensions frozen or cut and those young enough to move around the EU without disrupting their families' lives will probably do so. This will leave a bloated public sector that, unless slimmed down significantly, will mirror that of Greece and a private sector increasingly foreign owned. Whoopee do! Take Fleetwood Mac's advice and 'Go your own way'.
