“Kosovo shouldn’t be allowed to use Albania’s country code"

Phone codes are assigned to countries after they become UN members and it would be a serious precedent if Kosovo is allowed to use the phone code of Albania.

Roaming? uh, dude, it's called "long distance charges"

let me explain to you why your suggestion to charge whopping rates from Kosovo to Serbia wouldn't work.

If Serbia imposed a tax on calls originating from Kosovo, say 10X the price, Kosovo telcos could just route their traffic through a third party, say Deutsche Telekom, who would be happy to make a fraction of a penny/minute for doing nothing.

right, and fourth it confirms the tenants of democracy, i.e. majority rule. demographic factors will tell you that since 9/10 of the population belongs to one ethnic group, more than likely their wish will rule supreme. they however have not sent tanks to minority villages and are not sending them packing in their droves across the border

And third, the MPs confirmed that the western idea of Kosovo being a multi-ethnic, independent state has no majority, and that they want to join Albania. Somehow bizarre, because the 'Kosovo ministers, MPs and presidents' would make themselves obsolete.

This proves that Kosovo is not a state and that the plan is a take over by Albania.

This must not be allowed. The only way of controlling this properly long term is to keep Kosovo as a UN protectorate (what essentially it is anyway) but with the land 'nominally' owned by Serbia.

The status quo is a Serbian province under a pretend idi under 1244 and a UN protectorate. Albania only comes into this because it wrecked its resources under a weird form of communism and (because the people had little else to do) they expanded their population and pushed over the border.

The western idea of a separate Albanian country is ridiculous.

The bombing was 'humanitarian' not (supposedly) an invasion of Serbian territory or support for an ethnic takeover. Joining with Albania would be morally wrong.

There would be nothing 'multicultural' about giving Kosovo use of the Albanian dial code.

Where's the problem? With adapting the resolution, the MPs finally admitted that Kosovo is not a state like others, but a case sui generis. Good to see some sense for reality instead of this dream world of an independent state of Kosovo. Congratulations!

That might not be true, Avni.

As I have stated, this is all about who gets the money for incoming international calls.

This process is governed by the ITU. Serbia is a member of the ITU and the 381 prefix belongs to Serbia. As such Serbia does have a say over what happens to its 381 prefix.

For all the noise that Serbia makes about blocking Kosovo, this is really one of the very few practical areas where it does have a great deal of say.

Kosovo wouldn't even be talking about this unless they've already ran into some brick walls at the ITU getting their own prefix.
