Whichever fighter jet Serbia decides to buy to modernize it's Air Force, Serbia should not buy any aircraft manufactured in the main NATO aggressors United States, Britain, France or Germany. Like a previous posted mentioned, something like a Swedish-made Gripen would be a good choice; Russia could provided some good options as well.

Really do not have a clue,do you? Whatever Serbia decides to "upgrade" their military will be either donated or bought from donations. Do you really think Serbia which is talking about reducing public wages which is the lowest in Europe, has the financial ability to purchase several multi=million dollar planes.
You will not get them from China and what you might get from Russia are what they are replacing which has become too costly to repair.

Take the money Russia is willing to lend you on favourable terms. 10 Billion for military expenditure. Russia is willing to do this. Mig 32's, Su-37'S, S300 or even S400. All this equipment is far superior to Nato crap!!!!!Just do it!!

Serbia should not buy aircraft from anyone. Serbia is neutral and is not likely to launch air-strikes in the middle east. Serbia can't afford a battle of the bulge with its Nato members, nor could it hope for air superiority. Serbia should invest in ground based air defense systems and develop its own drones, perhaps with co-operation from Israel and Russia. This would be a better preparation for future challenges. At the present Serbia's security is not being challenged beyond the Kosovo question and therefor does not need to spend money it doesn't have on what could only be a speed bump for a NATO attack.

Buy Merkava (great for mountains) and Leopard for Pannonian flats.
Convert T-72's to BMP-T's
Get an upgrade for M-80's with Berezhok turrets
Buy S-400's and Panstirs S1 basis for air defense
Use Mig 21s as low RCS Taxis for R77
Get your hands on export version of Topol
Crank up Zastava, those M-21's and your M-80 are pretty high up there just refine ceca a bit further.
See if you can scam the US into selling XM-25 (great for urban probs) or tech.

Down the track think airforce.

Sweden makes an excellent aircraft in the Gripen. Serbia doesn't need any of that silly stealth gimmick like the American JSF. I doubt Serbia would be engaging hostile air forces in the foreseeable future, but an ability to patrol one's airspace is a must. I think the Gripen would be a good candidate to replace the Mig-21s and are more versatile. Keep the 29s though. As for the rest, Serbia can build its own guns and tanks so no need for foreign acquisitions there.
