Serbia won’t join NATO, defense minister says

US "help" = pandering for military contracts. The US is by far the largest arms dealer in the world and weapons are one of the last things the Americans make in the US anymore. Don't buy into the dumb JSF program. Russian equipment is cheaper, compatible with current stocks and usually just as good, or better yet, build it domestically.

No Serbia in NATO and no BiH in NATO. Good news is starting to flow.

Joning NATO is not an aheivement! If Albania can join, anyone can join.

Joining NATO is not a precondition for Serbia to join the EU, and that has been clear long ago.
Some EU member states are not NATO members, such as Austria, Ireland and Finland as mentioned here. The EUropean Union provides a defence structure on its onw, which although strives to be NATO, it nevertheless has a cooperation with the North Atlantic alliance. Through that, when Serbia joins the EU, it will be as if it also joined NATO, although not officially.
Joining an alliance that bombed Serbia is a heated political issue that can only cause problems on the scene. On the other hand, NATO entered in so many adventures, such as the "war on terror", that each member state has to deal with bombing risks on its own territory. Serbia already has far too many problems on its own to add up some more by joining NATO. Thus, military neutrality is the ideal status for this country.

In Kosovo? No Surrender again, the Serbs got what they offered before the bombing

New Zealander: You are right, there were no surrenders. There were however compromises made when it became clear that the original goals of the conflict could not be achieved, at least in the short term. Personally I think that level heads prevailed and that what was 'gained' was the best available. No-one wins very much from war these days although I imagine that the Croats, Bosnians and Kosovans would claim that now they have control over their own mess.
