For someone who speaks about Croatia a lot, have you ever been there or even been there recently? Because there are many and I mean many Serbs, Bosniaks, and Albanians living there with Croatian passports and citizenship. Todays Croatia is a lot different than the one that emerged post 1995. Many if not most of the krajina Serbs have returned and are receiving benefits from the goverment to rebuild what was lost in Oluja.

Now with the Albanian question. Did you know that 14% of the Croatian army during the time of Oluja were made up of Serbs, Albanians, and Bosnians. Those same people today enjoy a pention from the Croatian goverment. From the many Albanians I have spoke to in Croatia, tell me that they love Croatia and that none of they're family or friends living in Croatia receieved any ill will or harasement during the war, but this is just my personal experience. In Croatia there were only two peoples that were on the receiving end of the Croatian army 9/10 times it was the Serbs that the army was fighting. Im sure Albanians might have been on the receiving end of the Croatian army. But these incidents were so few and far between thats it not even worth mentioning as a statistic. War is ugly business for everyone invovled and sometimes it can get ugly for anyone.
Also speaking as a Croat, I can tell you if any Croats still hate anybody it goes in this order. From (HR) 1, Serbs 2, Britain 3, Russia

i honestly don't know what to say. natural allies? i'm not so sure, i'd be very surprised if Croats consider Serbia an enemy anymore, the war ended 17 years ago. that there were K. Albanians in the ranks of the croatian army during the war is well documented, but you know, that is more a case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend. frankly, it does not matter at all to me if the ordinary Croat hates us. what i can tell you however, is that during EURO 2012, there were Croatian fans with the flag of Kosova to be seen on TV. most likely they did this to annoy watching serbs, but hey, it game me a chuckle nonetheless :-)

In WWI, USA was ally with Serbs, in WWII USA was ally with Serbs. Croats and Albanians where allys with Germans in both wars.In 1990-is USA betrayed Serbs, and supported Germans, Croats, Albanians against their old ally. That's showing what is USA, and who they are.

Sorry Con, but the RS is 49% of BiH and the Federation is 51%. There are many areas for legitimate difference of opinion on this whole issue but I am afraid that certain details are inarguable.Irrespective of the %, the point I was making is that EU leaders are hardly likely to be prioritising the concerns of Milorad Dodik at a time when they have so much else to deal with. He may be a big fish inside the RS but in Europe as a whole he is a a non-entity, in keeping with all politicians in BiH. I only know the characters involved because I lived in Sarajevo for ten years. As to the wider world, George Bush Junior had to be shown where France was on a map. Although he is not necessarily indicative of US citizens as a whole, you can guarantee that the future of BiH won't come up during their Presidential election campaign!

My point is that there were people of Albanian ethnicity living in Krajina when hostilities broke out in the 1990s. It was one country and people moved around and when found work stayed there. True there were not many but still they were there. Now as Albanians and Croats see themselves as natural allies against a common enemy, the Serbs, why would they kick them out of Croatia? That is because neither Croats nor Albanians tolerate anyone else apart themselves, but things go wrong its always the Serbs fault.

Nikolle

As I said sj, I am not aware of a significant Albanian minority in Croatia apart from the Arbanasi, who are of Albanian origin. You know better obviously :-) again I have to go back to the blatantly obvious, there is no love in politics, only interest. Do Croats love Albanians? Why the hell would they? Indifference probably best describes it. Most likely they don't care one way or another

The Croats see you in the same light as they saw their “allies” the Bosnian Muslims. They turned on them half way through the war and burned quite a few alive in cellars in central Bosnia then the west tried to cover it up and blamed old Slobodan Milosevic – he was the cause.

To be fair to me MikeC, I never claimed Croats love Albanians. This is probably how the ordinary Albanian feels for a Croat too. There is no love in politics, only interest.

Observer, I have my facts very straight. It is your hate for Serbia, that is clouding your logical mind. I have a couple of excerpts from Wikipedia, I know, people support it when they agree with it, but put it down when they don't, in any case, please read.

Stari Most (English: Old Bridge) is a reconstruction of a 16th century Ottoman bridge in the city of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina that crosses the river Neretva and connects two parts of the city. The Old Bridge stood for 427 years, until it was destroyed on November 9, 1993 by Bosnian Croat forces during the Croat-Bosniak War. Subsequently, a project was set in motion to reconstruct it, and the rebuilt bridge opened on July 23, 2004.

The link above is for you souls that believe I was fabricating. Anyone, that thinks that the Croats love the Bosniaks, is nuts. And anyone here that thinks the Croats love the Albanians, is even more nuts. The act of recognition, in which Croatia acknowledged an independent Albanian KiM, has zero to do with Croats liking Albanians, but everything to do with what was expected of them to join the EU - same goes for CG and Macedonia. So, please, let's all be honest here, Croats do not like anyone but Catholic nation EU members. Muslims only like their Ottoman Islamic supporters. And the Serbs, most tolerant of all, just want independence from the Muslims in BiH, and their ancestral land in KiM. All else, is BS.

I will refresh your memory. I have written before how albanians were kicked out of Croatia during operation Oluja. I watched on Swedish tv how an albanian women and her husband in their 50s were complaining to the tv crew to why they were being kicked out even though they had done nothing wrong. I know this is not a known fact because it distorts the total image of what happend in the balkans. Officially croats and albanians are allies but in reality that's not true. I have always known that croats disslike albanians. Some years ago my swedish friend was told he couldn't enter a croatian club with his croat friend because they thought he was albanian. His friend started laughing and told him what they had said. My friend said he wasn't albanian but swedish. He was let in once the missunderstanding had been cleared. However, Nikolle, don't worry. The croats don't just hate you, but the serbs, bosnjaks and everyone else that is not croat. My uncle had clubs where all kinds of people from former Yug used to meet. A lot of croats came to his club as well. One evening he went to a croat club but was told, by one of the men who was a frequent visitor to his club, that he was not welcome there.

Mile is under time pressure to realise his goal of independence for the RS. The very last thing that he or his colleagues want to do is to link themselves inextricably with the Federation through the process of joining the EU. Once they go down that road there will be no reverse gear, likewise with NATO membership. Even if the RS didn't have historic reasons for opposing membership of the latter they do not want to enter any more major multinational organisations as part of BiH as this would further cement its existence and condemn all nationalist politicans to the politic backwater.

Mr Dodik talks about the non functioning of the Federation and state of BiH as a whole as if he were a bystander rather than an active (non) participant in this stalemate. He and others in the SNSD have no interest in seeing BiH make any progress towards EU goals precisely so that they can forward the arguments that were used in this latest speech. He is obviously very frustrated that the EU and wider international community, including many elements in Serbia, has better things to do with its time than engage with Milorad Dodik and his acolytes. The idea that the EU will have to change its mind is laughable: Dodik talks as if he is a G8 leader rather than the President of 49% of one of Europe's poorest countries.

Although he is not necessarily indicative of US citizens as a whole, you can guarantee that the future of BiH won't come up during their Presidential election campaign!

i honestly don't know what to say. natural allies? i'm not so sure, i'd be very surprised if Croats consider Serbia an enemy anymore, the war ended 17 years ago. that there were K.

To be fair to me MikeC, I never claimed Croats love Albanians.

Nikolle

pre 11 godina

erm sj, they come for Dodik's own words, he slams the, wait for it, muslim-CROAT Federation :-) as for croats kicking out Albanians, not sure what you're on about. if you're talking about the Arbanasi, who happen to have been Albanians 400 years ago (Catholic Albanians to be precise) well, they're full blown Croats now and I find nothing surprising or unusual about that. the Croat community in Janjeve, has a reserved seat in the K. Parliament. the dwindling numbers that we saw of that community, mostly happened during the nadir of anti-Croatian rhetoric in the mid 90's that was so prevalent in the Serbian media at the time. Albanians in kosova have nothing to fear from them, in fact, we stand to benefit greatly. i hope Croatia opens a school in Croat for their brothers in Janjev. not to worry, we know who are enemies are and it certainly isn't Croatia

Working together? Who? The Bosniaks and Croats in Bosnia?! Do you have any idea what you are talking about.....do you just come here to troll and spew garbage without having any idea what you are talking about!

The Muslim-Croat Federation is not the result of those two people's wanting to work together..it was put together after the war but now absolutely cannot function together as partners in this artificial entity that never had a chance in hell. The Croats in Bosnia (where Lendard is from ironically) want to separate from that failed state and envy Republika Srpska.

Your type is very peculiar. You clearly hate Serbs (enough to side against them in every conflict without even knowing what you are talking about) and yet you come here on a Serbian forum day after day just to let out hate.

The Bosniaks would rather join forces with Turkey, their historic patrons, than the EU. Turkey's president recently stated that Bosnia was one of its provinces, and felt obligated to help it. Has anyone, been to Turkey recently, and can you tell me that that place is an EU candidate? Please, it feels more like Mecca, than Berlin. The RS is correct in protesting against this forced Union of BiH, that the EU wants to see. For the life of me, is there one place in the world, that America or the EU have stuck their noses in, that has functioned well and prospered? I cannot think of any.

Bosnian and Croats working together? Where did you get this one from? You must have read it in an Albanian dictionary. Yeah they are working together beautifully especially as the Bosniaks have been working hard in pushing the Croats out of the Federation and they have now gone from a “people” in 1995 to to a minority in 2012.
The heavenly people no longer want to have anything to do with Croats or the Muslims. But I love the fact that the Croats kicked out their allies, the Albanians, out of Croatia and visa versa in Kosovo.

Subsequently, a project was set in motion to reconstruct it, and the rebuilt bridge opened on July 23, 2004.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stari_Most

Please spare me from this “Catholic Albanians” BS. Either you are that naive or a simpleton to say the least. During the Croatian “famed” Ouija they kicked out all the Albanians and to reciprocate the gesture your lot kicked out all the Croats out of Kosovo, and that is a fact not one of your dreams. The Albanians kicked EVERYONE out, ethnic Turks, Roma, Croats etc.

The Croats see you in the same light as they saw their “allies” the Bosnian Muslims. They turned on them half way through the war and burned quite a few alive in cellars in central Bosnia then the west tried to cover it up and blamed old Slobodan Milosevic – he was the cause.

From Hercegovina 1,Bosnians 2, Serbs 3, Britain/Russia

My point is that there were people of Albanian ethnicity living in Krajina when hostilities broke out in the 1990s. It was one country and people moved around and when found work stayed there. True there were not many but still they were there. Now as Albanians and Croats see themselves as natural allies against a common enemy, the Serbs, why would they kick them out of Croatia? That is because neither Croats nor Albanians tolerate anyone else apart themselves, but things go wrong its always the Serbs fault.
