SRS and Dveri got about 4,8 % percent each. Just below the threshold (what a convenient coincidence). This under an informal media cencorship, silencing their public voice. DSS, under Kostunica, got almost the same amount of votes as these two parties put together (8,3 % percent). Then we have the far left/Communists supported by just above 1 % percent of the citizens that bothered to vote in the last election.
Most of those who stayed at home on polling day in the latest general election in Croatia turned out to be very sceptical towards EU. Serbs have proven themselves to be significantly more sceptical towards the EU than the Croats. So, it is very likely that most of the half (49 % percent)that stayed at home on polling day are quite sceptical towards the EU. In places like the Baltic states the Yes side got a significantly higher score in opinion-polls, than in the actual referendas. This was due to the widespread distrust of authorities in these countries.

Right. But surely, this survey was far more representative than the pool of people who comment here. Or asking your 'friends' about it.

It amazes me how the Serbian gov. who could have a strong relationship with Russia militarily and economically want to join the E.U. Seriously what is wrong with you people !

Serbia, like Croatia have sold their souls to the devil. Why in the world did we go to war with thousands of young people lying in graves supposedly fighting for their homeland when the E.U will come in take over and create puppets out the Serbs and Croats. The E.U like they did in Croatia will manipulate the polls to suit them. Even if the majority of Serbs are opposed the polls will state that the citizens are in favor of joining the E.U. It's a no win situation. It amazes me how the Serbian gov. who could have a strong relationship with Russia militarily and economically want to join the E.U. I guess albanains can't use the "Kosovo recognition for Eu membership" slogan anymore. There goes that bargening chip.

Kind of a misinformed comment if you are going on the poll. It says that only 25% are against. So that basically says that you have 49% for and 25% against, so you have another 26% that could go either way.

Oh c'mon, why surveys? Make a referendum and respect the outcome. Did not Nikolic promise this?

For sure.

You can get any outcome you want just by targeting a particular demographic.
I would like to know what demographic was targeted before I would accept any survey.
The only way to get it right is to hold a referendum. Something as important as this should not be left to surveys to determine which way the government will go.
Have the guts to hold a referendum and then we will see the truth. I highly suspect that southern Serbia will be overwhelmingly for EU.

These numbers are wrong, a flat-out lie. Anyone can go to Serbia and see for themselves what Serbs think about the EU.
(what/how?, 19 August 2012 19:08)

Indeed, they need to come to these forums to see much more scientific numbers on that topic. Btw, they should also hold the same referendum in Kosovo where all Kosovo residents regardless of ethnicity could vote - 99% will say that Serbia should not join the EU.

Yes, we saw the correct numbers during the last Serbian elections. What was the total percentage of votes the parties which agitate openly against a Serbian EU membership (i.e. DSS and SRS + some negligible groups) get? Some numbers, please... :)

It is nice that it is going down. Dveri sure have done a lot over the years, much of that percent is thanks to them, and of course the conciousness of the serbian people.

'Serbia’s EU accession is supported by 49 percent of citizens while 25 percent are against it,'

This would have been all dandy if it was not by this blunder;

'shows a poll conducted by the government’s EU Integration Office.'

What other kind of agency would show real numbers that would make them lose publicly extorted blood\tax money?

Jovan

pre 11 godina

well, this is a perfect example of how propaganda is exercised. by claiming this, some in Serbia wish to create the impression of having the large majority of citizens supporting them.

but reality looks quite different. and articles like this show their nervousness.
