Good details here not seen eshleweere such as the 300 police crossing the border to sign on as Serb police working in Kosovo. The Kosovo encounter is not going to wind down any time soon. The EU has no plan other than denying Serbia economic privileges.Carrying out sanctions against Belgrade will only tip the current pro-EU coalition out of power, and allow in the pro-Russian less friendly faction. This has been a classic demonstration by the EU as to how defeat can be snatched from the jaws of victory. If the Serbs had been allowed to develop their economy first, their new-found privileges might have softened them up for a deal on Kosovo later. The EU success in Belgrade has been converted into a failure of colossal proportions overnight, weakening the EU from wing to wing. Its economic vulnerabilities, and the stresses within the eurozone will now be far more serious. Is Kosovo the beginning of the end for the EU? It looks like it.

The thing you do not realize is that wikipedia is a collection of individuals writing, not much different from writing here in these forums. Anything written yesterday can be changed by someone today. So while it is a good source of general information it is not a source where you can use specifics to verify anything.
The Ahtissari plan was never"discarded" the plan to bring it to a vote in the UNSC was. Those supporting Kosovo independence have always continued to support the A plan.
Using your logic one could say that since Russia failed to win support from the west, it "discarded" any plans to have the UN to investigate organ harvesting by the UN, since it chose not to bring it to a vote.

"and that the European Council clearly stated which conditions need to be fulfilled, most of which referred to the relations between Belgrade and Priština."

Most of which referred to Kosovo?!?! So the other things this government needs to do, like reforms of the judiciary, central bank independence etc etc will be wiped under the carpet? kosovo is the "most" of the conditions? So the person from the government from a few days ago, who said "if we make progress on Kosovo, EU will close an eye on the rest" was right? I have to hand it to this government, Kosovo is a very good (and easy) card to play with the EU and they are playing it well. Personally, I think it is not fair to the common citizens of Serbia, but this must be left to them to think about.

After many weeks of discussions at the UN, the United States and the European members of the Security Council formally "discarded" a draft resolution backing Ahtisaari's proposal on 20 July 2007, having failed to secure Russian backing, and instead proposed a new period of talks. So may I ask, why do these EUrocrats keep mentioning Ahtisaari's, dead in the water, plan? It only shows that the EU has no clue what to do in KiM. They have opened an ugly can of worms, and do not know how to put them back. But they better hurry, EU membership is less and less attractive by the day. In fact, maybe soon, no EU?

ecoman, why go thru all the trouble back & forth at the U.N.? When it is much easier to let each country choose themselves if they want to recognize Kosova as independent, makes a lot more sense wouldnt u agree?
