I don't want to disrespect real pious orthodox Serbs but this is absolutely horrendous. Hope this sheds the light on horrific crimes and abuses that the church is allowed to commit without regard of the common law. That man should have been stopped and locked up years ago from the last abuse his program did by torturing with shovels those people they wanted to "HELP". You call that help when you are tortured and killed by a holy member of your church? It's ridiculous that the Serb government still allows this to happen even though the abused people are drug addicts in need of help. Religion should not be a form of immunity from persecution from the law. I will wait for a response from the church head Irinej of what he has to say. Probably nothing. The Serbian church should not be regarded in par with the extremist Islamist factions. By seeing this it is absolutely in par with them in mentality and ideology. The church should only be confined in spirituality and not in the matters where it still has medieval mentality.

Hello, all of you out there that cannot wait to put the Serbian Orthodox Church in a bad light - he was DEFROCKED. That means he was no longer in the church. Jesus, what is it with the hate you people have towards anything, and anyone Serbian? Do you have nothing better to do with your lives? Go and spread a little love, do something nice for a stranger, and let Serbia take care of its own. Are things so great where you live, that you find time to put Serbia down?

Then why was he still able to run a rehabilitation center mirroring the one that was closed and that he was allegedly defrocked for? The article stated "Priest Branislav Peranović" that he is a priest. If he was defrocked, then why does he still wear the title and the gear? Is it because he is possibly a sick individual that loves hurting people under the guise of the church mantle? Hate to say it but most (not all) priests or imams for that matter are mentally sick people in need of a reality check. Catholic priests rape little boys, orthodox priests torture and humiliate people in need, imams well there's a whole other level of crazy. And all in the name of the HOLY.

And where were you when the scandal about the catholic priests in America, who were abusing small children, was revealed? Yes, forget about that. Let's critisize the serbs. I've read all the comments on this particular article and am not quite sure why there is such a massive debate.This priest(former priest) according to the article has been arrested and will doubtless be charged and tried.So what's all the hoo-hah about.Due process will be followed and he will be convicted or freed.That seems glaringly obvious to me,but there appear to be a bunch of anti-Serbian racists here trying to tar all Serbian clergy and indeed Serbian people with the same brush and this is patently nonsense.At the same time some of my fellow Serbian brothers/sisters are allowing these peasants to goad them into some sort of frantic reaction.We have,and never have had anything to apologise for as an ethnic group as far as I'm aware but this is the action of a rogue individual who could just as easily have been Italian or more likely a Croatian Franciscan priest.It doesn't matter the fact is he'll be tried and judged which is far more than most of the priesthood behind the Jasenovac atrocities ever were.I rest my case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Mikel, chill out. The Serbian Orthodox Church certainly does not condone its priests clubbing people over the head, if they do not obey. Whether this guy was still wearing his priestly garb or not, he was defrocked, and no longer a member of the Serbian Orthodox Church. You can twist the story to your liking, but this former priest acted on his own, not with the consent of the church. Please stop sounding like a fool. Yes, organized religion around the world, starting with the Vatican, are evil in many respects, but it is the individuals, not the religion.

What does this article has anything to do with Jasenovac? A lotta Serbs brings that up in almost every topic. We are talking about the present not the past. I am not anti Serbian as I am anti religion. My problem is mainly that because he is a priest shouldn't give him freedom and green light to mutilate people he is to help and protect. He should have been put in jail for his previous crime years ago. But because to not put the Orthodox church in a bad light it has been kept muted and due criminal process had been stalled. The church holds so much weight there that that have carte blanche to do whatever they want.

Who let him be in charge of another centre after what he did at the last one?
