“EU will condition Serbia’s accession talks date”

Serbia will probably be given a date for the EU accession talks in the end of the year but under conditions that the country will not be able to fulfill easily.

"The EU diplomat added that Germany was in charge of defining the conditions for the beginning of the EU accession talks."

He, he, he!

After what has happened both on a global and EU level, if anyone still thinks that joining the EU is the best thing since sliced bread then they are totally deluded. Serbia will never join the EU as it will not forgo Kosovo and secondly there is nothing to gain in joining the EU.
(sj, 29 July 2012 01:53)

I agree; EU will not gain anything by having a poor country like Serbia join to eat European taxpayers' money. In addition, Serbia never joining the EU has the full support of Kosovo since Serbia as an EU member would cause trouble with the EU actions in regards to Kosovo. It's nice to see that you and Kosovo have a convergence of opinions here.

As for "forgo Kosovo", whether Serbia becomes member or not of the EU, Arab Leagues, ASEAN, or whatever, will not bring Kosovo back. Kosovo will be back within the same country with Serbia, when Serbia convinces Kosovo that being in the same country is better than separated.

In the EU corruption comes from the top! This goes to show that even Brussels doesn't take the Accession process seriously. There is no 'Rule of Law' in the EU when the germans appoint themselves King of the Jungle declaring their love for human rights as long as you are neither a serb nor roma.

Their allies in the CoM are complicit in these lies.

Up yours Germany, you can keep those albanians who live in the 19th century for yourselves.
(EU Dude, 28 July 2012 17:55)

Of course DUDE it was the Albanians of 19th century who killed 80000 people in Srebrenica, The Serbs as superior to Albanians have Ivica Dacic and Tomo Nikolic, who will be representing Serbia in the 21 century, only Seselj is missing to complete the dream team to get Serbia in Europe.

Too much conditionality is never good. I hope that the Serbian president and the government find a way for Serbia to join the EU and in the same time to preserve their national interests.

The next German Federal Election will be an Election to determine the Members of the 18th Bundestag, the Federal Parliament of Germany.

If it is a regular election, it will be held on a Sunday or holiday between 1 September and 27 October 2013, and it may be held earlier or later under exceptional circumstances.

It would appear that the time mentioned in the Article refers to a time after the next German Federal Election.

the question is, who lives in the 19th century!! Serbia, and it's twisted nationals certainly haven't managed to get to feal with their past, or have shown any signs that they are aware of what they did during the Balkan wars.

There is no room in the EU for a Serbia which is unable to come to terms with its past, and which axts as if its is doing Europe a favor if they let them in the EU, like one of the deranged other comments here stated today. Sure their will be conditions, and most of them will have to do with the unacceptable way Serbia is handeling the Kosovo question. Take it or leave it, and Serbia in its present condition has no right and never will be a member of the EZ.

The diplomat did not say anything new that people in Serbia, but does not know!
It would be more surprising that it is not so!

It is sad that one can play with people!
History for them there, or that there is but only one that they write!
But for Serbia this is not a surprise!

It’s all a charade. This is just going through the processes but both sides know that it will never happen. On the EU side they hold some very small glimmer of hope while in Belgrade they know there is no hope of joining this entity that is on the edge of disappearing into the dustbin of history.
They all mouth the same platitudes of kisses and loving etc but it’s all talk and nothing else.

So in order to become EU member Serbia has (is blackmailed) to betray Kosovo Serbs.
(aaayyy, 28 July 2012 17:06)

No, in order to become EU member Serbia has to normalize relations with Kosovo, including Kosovo Serbs. What's wrong with normalizing relations with Kosovo Serbs ?!

In my opinion, Serbia has shown too much eagerness towards the EU and this will be exploited. Concepts like 'blackmail' and 'arrogance' have and will determine Brussels' principles in dealing with economically vulnarable candidates. Serbia should be aware of the fact that Brussels needs Serbia more than the other way around -- I'd like to underscore this. It would be far better to go for closer relations with the 'east' and patiently wait for initiatives the 'west' decides to take.
