As usual B92 forgets to mention Croatians wining also Gold and silver in the same math completion http://www.croatiantimes.com/news/General_News/2012-07-17/28370/Croatian_mathematician_wins_gold_at_Olympiad . Croatian professionals are returning back to Croatia after the fall of Serboslavia unlike Serbia's brain drain.

The name really does not look serbian. Maybe he changed it on purpose, who knows... I am interested in knowing what this guys origins may be. heh.

His father is swiss and mother serbian. The guy was brought up only by mother in Serbia and considers himself serb.

ida- i take your point but he will not have the same opportunities in Serbia. Hopefully he will not forget his roots. Most Serbs don't. He should be a great advertisement for Serbia as well, and meet people who will be world leaders in their fields. This can only help him and us.

Jake- any idea why Germany may be disliked in Serbia. No way, I don't believe it. Where are Germans liked actually? He was born in Serbia, brought up in Serbia, educated in Serbia, calls himself Serbian. That's good enough for me.

Jake, yes, indeed, Germans are known for being good at math, so much so that their biggest mathematician, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, was of Sorbian (Lusatian Serbian) ancestry. But, you are right, you don't have to be a Serb to live in Serbia - Serbia is a multicultural country. As for the Serbian Germans in Vojvodina province - they were expelled and their lands confiscated because most of them were siding with the Nazi occupational army during the WWII. Those who are deemed traitors of their country are similarly treated anywhere in the world. Serbs don't have any reason to particularly like Germans giving the fact that Germany was involved in Serbian genocide in both World Wars as well as military campaigns in the '90s.
As for talents, you are grossly mistaken. Lets see a British student with such honors. Or how about this: Andy Murray is British when wins, but Scottish when looses.

wow jake,
thats pretty interesting. what credit then does america have the right to take? 7 time tour de france winner lance armstrong doesn't sound like an american name. he's not native, but european. perhaps a mutt mixture, but clearly he can't be american unless he has indefinite american blood lines.
british monarchy is german monarchy, so what claim to they have of being britanians? non according to you.
i noticed that the german national football team has names like gomez, ozul, boatang, all classic german names from the time of the hapsburgs?

can brazil claim any achievments as they're all portuguse and african and native mixed.

i'm glad that you're sarcasm was well spent on this article. perhaps your vile hatreds can be better used elsewhere.

this young man is a product of serbian education system. nature and nuture are both parties to the development of a human. this you man is brilliant and need not be politicized.
yes serbia is proud of one of their son's achivements. i'd bet you waive the flag of your personal country this summer as they try to win something in london.
allow others their deserved prides and take yours too.

trying to belittle someone or something, in such an unclever way only issolates you and desmonstrates your hatreds, immaturity and overall lack of both tact and manners.

may your anger subside

Why is he going to Oxford instead of a Serbian university? And if he leaves he might not come back to help Serbia, and instead work for the same countries which work against Serbia. If Serbs were really really patriotic, then the best and brightest would try to at least go to a non-NATO country, if they couldn't stay in Serbia.

His name doesn't sound Serb, most likely it is German and Germans are known to be good at mathematics. I guess you don't have to be a Serb to live in Serbia. Usually, though, Germans are disliked in Serbia, in fact Germans living in Serbia were expelled after WW II. However, Serbs are always willing to take credit for talent even though none is warranted.

Thomas, what exactly are you trying to say? Are you being sarcastic, vengeful, or just plain bitter stupid? Explain yourself. This young man is a genius, I hope you are not trying to put him down. If you are, tell us about your achievements.

Probably a bigger hit with the ladies than you, Ian. What do you have to offer? I will wait for your reply - although I think you have none. He has brains, what do you have?

I nominate young Teodor to head Serbia's National Bank, he is certainly more qualified than Jorgovanka. But Dacic and Nikolic may not like that, they would be threatened by this young brain, and Serbia can't have someone of that intelligence in any political office. It would break tradition. In any case, congratulations young man, you make Serbia proud. We have little to cheer about, so the hope that people like Teodor bring is welcomed.
