Tell us, without going into any spin, do you find Tadic or any other Serb shaking hands with Thaci acceptable?
(Peggy, 14 July 2012 04:59)

As acceptable as those shaking hands with Milosevic as long as he was in charge in Serbia.

Peggy 'Is a person declared a nationalist if they find shaking hands with a monster like Thaci unacceptable? '

No, of course not. Answer this, do you think that a politician condemning a handshake with Thaci would appeal to nationalists? Do you consider yourself a nationalist?

If he is not there in any official capacity it is acceptable for Tadic to shake hands with who he wants. As (current) party leader voters will pass judgement on Tadic at future elections. You might want to bear in mind that Serbian officials have shaken hands with Kosovo Albanian officials (accused of war crimes or not) out of the way of cameras - just because we haven't got it on film does not make it any better.

But my this piece isn't about the handshake, its about Dacic and his lies - the condemnation of the handshake for PR purposes and then the flip flop or U turn later on. Dacic accusing Nikolic of being a greater Euro fanatic than the last government. Hypocrisy.

Who shall please America the most? Who shall be the biggest American? Serbia is in a state of disgrace, as is much of the world today. Instead of solving thier own problems like people of various nations, independent and free-all huddle at the feet of America begging for scraps-because thats all The united states has to offer. The United States cannot help its own people and yet we see a parade of Serbian leaders run to Washington begging and pledging loyalty. How truly sad! Mr Nikolic is a quisling just like Tadic was. Serbia is run by provencial small minded peopple with not a single original idea in thier minds-in that regard, they fit well into the eastern european mosaic.

Political games of children-politicians:
1. Tell press that political opponent is pro-German
2. Tell press that political opponent is pro-American
3. Tell press that political opponent sell Kosovo to Albanians.

All childish immature games from ex-vilayet of Istanbul, now vilayet of Moscow.

Comm. Parrisson it will be the usual mixture of threats and bribes, but with of a hands on approach than Tadic / Cvetkovic.

Much of the time Tadic (and his workers) relied on his charm and often used a sense of wounded victimhood in appealing to editors to give him a friendly press. Dacic lacks this touch and journalists will be inclined to take him up on his contradictory statements in newsrooms, even if it always appears as if journalists questioning Dacic are incapable (or too afraid) of asking the right questions and invariably let him off the hook.

I have noticed that the government elect has been leaking exclusive stories regularly to Kurir in order to get them on board the SPS/G17/SNS project. I think this tactic will reap some benefit in the short term, although Kurir, like the Radical party, is not powerful voice of yellow journalism it used to be. On the other hand the new government can't afford to be too close to Kurir or its rivals will be more inclined to attack it.

It will be interesting to see the position of publications such as Politika where the state has a certain amount of control as well.

We'll see. Inventing some new laws like in Russia, closing down some other media outlets, and amongst the former state media RTS there are probably still enough people who are more than willing to follow a new leader. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens like that.

Half truths mixed in with outright lies as usual with Dacic, all delivered in a populist way to make him look smarter than all of them.

I am beginning to think that I underestimated Dacic, even though I thought he was a skilled politician it may be that he is almost as skilled as Milosevic. Certainly like Milosevic his statements are designed to appeal to a broad an audience as possible, one day he is pro European, the next he laughs at Euro fanatic Nikolic, the next day he slams Tadic for shaking Thaci's hand (appealing to nationalists), then the day after says its not a problem shaking Thaci's hand, but that Tadic should have done that in government - so nationalists believe he hates Thaci and would never deal with Albanians and reformists believe that Dacic is actually advocating sending a message that he would consider shaking Thaci's hand.

It was the same with Milosevic, following the break up he was issuing statements condemning Croatia and Slovenia, supporting a pro Jugoslav position, then he began to issue pro Serbian statements to one audience, pro Jugoslav statements to another until eventually he abandoned the Jugoslav constituency altogether.

The problem with these rampant statements supporting opposing positions is that it relies on both ambiguous language and amnesia on the part of the public and media. Milosevic could control the media to a great extent, Dacic cannot.

I expect Dacic will do his very best to control the media in every way he can.
