"No CoE membership for Kosovo, official says"

Just a small correction to the title:
"No CoE membership for Kosovo, B92 says"

The official whom B92 was quoting did not say such a thing.

It seems you can't read Kenny. CoE membership is for countries only.
(Zoran, 5 July 2012 15:11)

Because a Serb from Belgrade said so? :)

"But this way the K-Serbs could say "hey, you're a member of the CoE, we want this and that from you" and the international community has an eye on it and act accordingly."
(Kenny, 5 July 2012 16:06)

The international community has an eye on Kosovo (supervision), but it doesn't help much to establish some basic democratic rules, laws and European standards, as everyone could see.

@Zoran
It's up to the CoE members to decide what a country is. The majority sees Kosovo as one, so it should be seen as an option. Its in the favor of all people in Kosovo.

@Jeff and Comm. Parrisson
I'm not going to argue about what Kosovo is and what not. All I'm saying is that if the Serbs in Kosovo are not happy with their situation, a membership of Kosovo in the CoE would only benefit them, as Kosovo would have to keep up with their standards like the other countries. I dont see the problem on Prishtinas side, they try everything to integrate them. But this way the K-Serbs could say "hey, you're a member of the CoE, we want this and that from you" and the international community has an eye on it and act accordingly.

Kenny- how have Serbs lived under Albanian rule so far do you think? Valhala, I know. Get a grip. Kosovo is the black hole of Europe, and will remain so until it comes to its senses and starts treating it's minorities in a civilised manner. You need a check up from the neck up.

Legal standards, human rights, democratic development, rule of law, culture - these things hardly exists in Kosovo, so it cannot cooperate with countries in Europe in these areas :)

Good. They don't deserve it.
(Jeff, 5 July 2012 11:55)

Wait, lets make this clear. First of all, a little explanation what the CoE is:

"The Council of Europe is an international organization promoting co-operation between all countries of Europe in the areas of legal standards, human rights, democratic development, the rule of law and cultural co-operation."

So you dont want, regardless if you think Kosovo deserves to be independent or not, a better co-operation between all regions in Europe especially the Balkans? Not even for the sake of all Serbs in Kosovo? Because lets face it, they live under Prishtinas rule and it would benefit THEM if Kosovo could co-operate with other countries... even SERBIA.
