Serbia really needs to focus even more on Russia and non-EU countries. The EU would treat Serbia as a third-class member anyway. All Serbia does is have to look at the second standard treatment for Bulgaria and Romania, and realize they will be treated even worse.

Nothing in their modern history has prepared Serbs for this predicament. They have entered so many times in desperate struggles with stronger adversaries, and even when being defeated never yielded an intch. Yet miraculously they always ended on the winning side and thus expanded their territory and influence beyond any reasonable scale. So they didn't realise that this was a fluke, not a historical law. Since 1991 they are on the losing side, but because of the abovementioned perception they missed so many chances to cut short their losses. The union with Montenegro was savable a decade ago, and the preservation of Vojvodina and Sandzak is still possible, if Serbia preserves its pro-European course. If it doesn’t… then who knows?

“The new political architecture after the parliamentary and presidential elections leaves a big dilemma whether Serbia will continue to come closer to the EU,” Brkić said and expressed concern that Serbia would “come to a situation to say a historic ‘no’”.

Why historic? When people see that the a new nationalist SRS-government doesn't reach anything more (but maybe less) than the previous one, things will turn again. Unfortunately, it will mean some more lost years for Serbia.

After playing Divide & Rule, they now want to dictate their form of cooperation? Too many drugs are being consumed in western policy circles.

If there is less support for the EU, them Brusselsand it's masters could admit their fair share of the blame.

Do they not understand that people can see that they say one thing, but do something different in practice?

It's all very Humpty Dumpty.

I can't believe the bias behind this garbage. Serbia is not ready to conform to EU standards? How many other countries were required to relinguish a piece of their territory?. If that's the prerequisite imposed on Serbia, than to hell with a bankrupt EU.
