It’s the stupidity of western strategy that I have a hard time coming to grips with. Why create havoc that will bring something worse than Assad to power? If the west can’t deal with the Taliban in Afghanistan now, what makes them think they can control a Syria run by religious zealots? Look at Libya; it’s now run by tribes and various terrorist groups and it’s a mess with very little oil coming out.
If anyone in Israel thinks that removing Assad will be better for them then they are as deluded as the Americans because an unstable Syria run by crazy mullahs will only bring more problems for surrounding countries. . This instability only brings misery to the ordinary person in Syria where the vast majority are only trying to make a living for the family.
As stated, they had better be careful for what they wish for.

sj and szemi are absolutely correct! This is just neo-liberal / neo conservative r2p neo-colonial drivel, full of hypocrisies and double standards that would be better directed at a uneducated western audience, that would be impressed by timmys Professorship at oxford and too preoccupied with who has been waxing Kim Kardashians bottom this week or contemplating what new car Simon Cowell might buy while eating some tasty fish and chips made by the Paki around the corner, than an audience that has actually been on the receiving end of the gentle protective hand of neutral, unbiased, non-exploitive western r2p humanitarian intervention. timmy like cedo is just tossing the EU salad, but unlike them I am not sure this audience likes tossing salad let alone the santorum salad dressing they find tasty.

Cheers

ps Does timmy think that what comes after Assad will be safer for Israel? Be careful what you wish for, unless you have tenure!

Do not expect anything inteligent from this Sorosian guy whose idols are such pseudomoralis as Bernard-Henri Levy or Adam Michnik(the biggest traitor of Poles in the last century a sell-out of the first grade.
When I read Timoty's articals about Poland or other easter european countries I really do not know if I should laugh or cry.Almost as if Cedomir Jovanovic informed the western public about what is happening in SErbia.

“I hope that one day ex-president Bashar al-Assad will stand before the International Criminal Court charged with crimes against humanity…..”

And one day I actually hope of reading an article written by an intelligent western journalist instead of reading drivel like the kind written here.
First lesson always know your audience before opening your mouth. It was the United States of Windbags that brought the Assad family to power in the 1970s.
