'I just got back from CG, and if that country is an EU candidate, then you can have the EU.'

Montenegro is an EU candidate for the same reason Romania and Bulgaria are already in the EU - NATO and the containment of Russia and its actual or potential allies.

There can be no reason other than a practical geopolitical one for these countries to be anywhere near the EU.

At last,Iam glad to see Luigi taking the view the EU is history.Yesterday Spain was downgraded one more notch above junk. Greece may push Spain towards junk. Should that happen markets will not lend to Spain-Spanish borrowing costs went above 7% today. The speculation about the outcome of Greek elections is totally irrelevant.Sooner or later Greece will have to leave the Euroland.

Next will come Italy which has to roll over more than 300Billion Euros of debt next month. This a Herculian task and even if it goes through it will definitely bankrupt Italy as a result of high interest rates and insurance defaults required.
I fancy Spain going for a full bailout the next few days.Merkel is driving Europe into the abyss.

I just got back from CG, and if that country is an EU candidate, then you can have the EU. Crna Gora is still a backward nation, with little sophistication, and little maturity. It is driven by the Euro for sure, but little else.
