Can someone recruit some more reasonable Albanians to comment here? I know they are out there - I spent my life among them in Detroit and NYC.

I would like to see some moderately constructive dialog here.

Reading Albanian comments on here really allow me to witness first-hand the dark, twisted crevices of their psyches. They believe it just to openly attack a religious worker of another ethnicity, simply because of their political background?

I guess then these same Albanians in B92 would endorse a couple of Serb youths beating up Albanian bakers in Montenegro or Serbia simply because they are Albanian. Stay on your "turf" right?

Seriously are many (but not all) Albanians the type to engage in physical or deadly violence?? Most Kosovar- Albanians I've communicated with seem peaceful minded (if you will) but if necessary I recall meeting a couple of Kosovar-Albanian men in another part of my province 10-11 years ago where one of them at least used strong profanity (in English) when cursing the late Slobodan Milosevic. If necessary again and I'm not trying to be critical but when I viewed photos and You Tube videos of Albanians (even meeting a Kosovar-Albanian in real life) I noticed that many of them display what I call 'reservedly amused' facial expressions. What I mean is that I feel that their facial expression is a combination of being amused and serious and/or reserved where I sense that even if they are amused I'm still sensing that they have a reserved or serious personality.

It is only stupid Albanians in Kosova that tolerate such racists on their land. In any other country such racist Monks and any other reps of Serbian church would have been kicked out of that country with a nice kick in the a** many years ago..

How convenient. Let's all start destroying mosques in Serbia and bashing the imams there because no mosque has ever condemned terrorist attacks done by the Muslims around the world including Albanians.
How do you know what this monk thinks about anything.
The church has never sponsored any crimes but terrorist activities have been known to be hatched in mosques.

No, it's not, but the climate of impunity for people who attack Serbs, throw stones or fire bullets at them created by the non-action and downplaying the accidents by the Kosovo officials and KPS makes it a state-tolerated attack, at least.

None of our societies are free, none of our people are free, we still live in the vague reflection of our past, we find chapters in history that give us some human value while we are treated like wild animals by the ''civilized'' world who take away our freedom and democracy. Our politicians and leaders use our deeply rooted hate, derived from propaganda and racism, to make us go to war with each other and sacrifice our sons and daughters, our towns and villages.

The extreme nationalism and plain racism that comes so naturally to the people of the Balkans is the reason why this monk was beaten down, and the explain our past wars and, im sure, the future ones. But I will never stand in the front line, killing other innocent men, nor should anyone who thinks of him-/herself as an enlightened, freedom loving, democratic and peaceful human being.

Sorry to tell you but that's exactly what you're doing - justifying it in the most passive way possible.

I am Serbian and even after reading all the usual Albanian troll comments on this post, I have got to say that yours is the most pathetic and non-sensical.

Whether monks are involved in politics or not is none of your business nor should it be a contributing factor to an assault.

As humans we develop in our societies with interest in how we are governed i.e. politics.

Get real if you think you can dictate who can have a say in politics and who cannot. What about the Vatican?

Religion and politics will forever be mixed because they have to coexist in society. They have to respect each other and they have to know one another so you're just foolish to say that they should "stay out" of it.

The lack of basic common sense on this forum sometimes amazes me.
(trizo, 13 June 2012 19:14)

Trizo,
I have already said that I do not agree with beating someone up because of ethnicity. However, everyone here is treating this as "extra bad" because it was a peaceful monk. If he was a peace-loving monk, who spends his life serving God and caring for all others and treating them equally, whether Serbian or Albanian, then yes, I agree it was even worse than if a normal Serbian citizen of Kosovo was beaten up.

However, since the Serbian Orthodox church acts as an extension of Serbia and spends its time speaking about politics, I am not surprised when it is targeted as the enemy.

of course this is wrong, but it's gonna happen. Mr. Monk is dressed the wrong way in the wrong part of town, he makes himself a target. It's not a state sponsored attack. Maybe it's time to move the monastery to where Serbs actually reside. I understand Serbs want to hold the ground but things like this will continue to happen, the monastery's presence angers the local K-Albanians. I'm sure the Serbs will let the monks stay hoping more of these attacks will happen and these religious men can be their political martyrs.

I would never advocate beating anyone up for their race or religion, but know that some are less tolerant. However, you are absolutely correct that if the Serbian Orthodox church wishes to be treated like a church, and if monks are to be treated as holy people, then the Serbian Orthodox church needs to start acting Christ-like. This means that they must get out of politics completely, quit desecrating sacred events like Easter by talking about political problems instead of God, and treat everyone (Serbian and Albanian) as absolute equals, as they are in the sight of God.

Again, I am not justifying anyone beating anyone up, but I would think that the orthodox church would be treated as much more "untouchable" if they would quit muddling about in politics and started worrying about helping people.

With every attack and assault, they only prove to the world that they are little more than savages. Whether the outside world reacts or not, as they invariably would if a imam was beaten up by Serbs, this kind of incident illustrates the deeply primitive nature of Albanian culture. Albanian community leaders do absolutely nothing to discourage or punish the malcontents within their own community. An assault like this reflects appallingly on their society.

Disgusting, a monk of all people probably the most peacful people in Kosovo. of course this is wrong, but it's gonna happen.

(Oliver Cromwell, 13 June 2012 19:06)

becaouse:

1. it never condemned the racists policies that their country Serbia was implementing for decades in Kosova in 80s-90s.

2. never condemned nor expressed regret of the state planned and executed attempt of DEPORTATION of the entire nation in Kosova.

For #1 had 30 years time to show sincere regret

For #2 has over 12 years time to condemn it and apologies in name of his children...

yet never did. On contrary it is the primary generator of the racist philosophy and policies of Serbia towards Kosova.

It is only stupid Albanians in Kosova that tolerate such racists on their land. In any other country such racist Monks and any other reps of Serbian church would have been kicked out of that country with a nice kick in the a** many years ago..
