Ooh... I think all of you commentators hit a wrong button here. The answer will be much simpler than what you suggest.

Nikolic may ask first a SNS politician to try forming a government, which would be a fair game. Unpleasant but fair. And when SNS fails, next round is for DS. This is simple and democratic.

Idk if this is the change that the voters had in mind when they submitted their ballot(s). It's going to be interesting to observe how this new regime will turn everything around...don't forget that the dinar hit a historic low today...I've made public predictions here that at 120 exchange rate the serbian economy will go into severe recession (almost depression).

Nor, do I think its a great idea to have Tadic as Prime Minister. Apart from anything else he is tired out and has already stated he doesn't want the job. Plus although of course the Prime Minister is not directly elected it looks somewhat ridiculous to have somebody who lost the vote for President coming back as Prime Minister.
(bganon, 22 May 2012 14:54) It is like musical chairs Dadić will pull them out and stop the music. When their is just one chair left Dadić will jump on it as supreme comrade of the Peoples Democratic Serbia and the Serbian people will be finally happy living in a socialist paradise with full employment wow. With 100's of Secret police employed just looking in to the case of the western provocateur bganon.

"SPS would prefer Tadić as new prime minister"

I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw this title ..... until I read the 1st para that it was a DS claim that seems tantamount to SPS preferring Tadic over its own leader Dacic ...... someone should be red in the face once the dust has settked ...... any bets whose face that will be?

There is a lot of activity going on in Serbian politics - who will be next PM, what will be the next coalition government, will Toma save Serbia and bring it prosperity? Many questions are asked, and the future of Serbia's stability and economic improvement is up in the air. All I know, is that we have basically the same cast of characters still in positions of leadership in Serbia, that we have had for the last 20 years. Even with the forming of new parties, same people with different names, how will anything in Serbia be any different? Until Serbia has truly new blood, with new ideas and visions, Serbia will remain spinning its wheels, while the ruling elite in Belgrade play their self interest games.

More calculations by Dacic. The thinking is that whoever is Prime Minister will take the blame for the economic situation and in the next elections that party will do badly. On the other hand if you are in the government in control of a number of key ministries you can do what SPS (and G17 before them) like to do - pretend they are part of the opposition and get more votes.

In other words SPS believes that the next government (of which he will be a key part) will be a failure. My conclusion is that there is no incentive on the part of SPS to work hard to ensure that is not the case.
