Ashton is simply the lowest common denominator of a divided Europe. Remember Tony Blair was in the frame but that terrified everyone enough that they preferred a no-one? Remember that she neither has any experience of foreign policy nor couldn't speak french nor german etc.

That's irrelevant as it is about the team behind the throne. She is little more than a spokeswoman, a face if you will, for EU 'foreign policy'. As the americans said some back, "What number do we call in Europe?".

Her team competes with can Rompuy and Barroso's for 'I'm the most important person in the EU' face time.

Remember a camel is a horse designed by committee. That's it in a bag.

Why this woman gets to be a spokes-person for the EU I don't understand.

She is not an elected official - like a lot of the top-end of the EU, it is highly questionable whether the current structures are properly representative of the views of the peoples of Europe.

I doubt that she would ever attract enough votes for the people to want her.

There is an increasing feeling that Europe is being ruled by a bureaucratic elite that is not directly answerable to the peoples' vote.

I hope that Serbia will be instrumental in helping to change these top-level structures - may be Serbia should require the EU to update itself in this regard.

I suspect that by 'strength' she means acceptance of the invasion of Kosovo.

Serbia is the legal owner of Kosovo. Strong governance in Serbia would mean telling the world to get out of Kosovo.

Anything else is relative weakness.

Serbia needs a strong government and parliamentary majority to achieve the economic progress its people desire and the European integration that they aspire to. Neither is possible without difficult reforms and political courage," the statement said.

What she is really saying is she wants Serbia to have a dictatorship to recognize Kosovo against people's will.

Why is this woman giving her unsolicited opinion on anything to do with Serbia. The EU needa Serbia far more than Serbia actually needs the EU I suspect, and the more people of her ilk that come forward with an opinion in this manner the more my suspicions I believe are confirmed.
