Why should Serbia's strong leader recognize Kosovo?
(aaayyy, 21 May 2012 13:52)

Because swimming upstream requires more strength than swimming downstream :)

Regardless who is the next Serbian President, Serbia must adhere to the path towards EU and US. Russia can only be used as a leverage. Keep in mind that, Serbia didn't do anything wrong or failed anything in the 90's. The only thing wrong is that Serbia didn't court to the West like other ethnic groups.

As an American, I have to say this, Tardic may not have been successful in domestic policies. However, he and his younger generation of Serbian diplomats have done tremendous job of reversing the damage from failed 90's foreign policy. I can understand that most of Serbs disagree with his current Kosovo policy. But if you view it in a future perspective, you will take it as nothing but step one or temporary strategy for the future final solution. Keep in mind that, Kosovo Albanians' can be dismissed overnight by the Western desire.

Good luck Serbia and many many people around of the world support you!

LOL according to Kandic? You really are desperate for attention frisco. Try looking at your beloved Albanians in "Kosova" who according to Dick Marty, the German BND, UNMIK, Transparency International, and the State Department have elected war criminals since 1999. And you're that bent out of shape over one man in Serbia because of someone who thinks everyone who doesn't think like Natasa Kandic is a war criminal :)

To the so called Democrats. Respect the choice of the people. Takenote for 8 years your Tadic didn't bring prosperity to Serbia and he let Kosovo province be occupied by the WEST like allowing EULEX.

Support instead Pres. Elect Nikolic :)

Bganon & Team Otpor™ are clearly disappointed, if not directly for Nikolic so for uncertainties regarding their privileges under the previous western imposed Otpor™ regime. I mean our local Saakaswiili, Tadic, was the best "president" western money could buy but not even a second round of election fraud and the media silence since could help him go on finish off Serbia. He can now retire to a Malibu beach front villa or whatever reward he gets from USA and their NGO´s.

Nikolic has proven himself easily bought and the €USSR don´t seem too worried but it´s still uncertain as to what extent. In any case that will and can not be his first priority.

To me it's something like in Ukraina: the loser Yuschenko led by his American wifey versus an ex-criminal Yanukovich who claims to be pro-Russian at the "right" moment - but turns out to be somewhat anti-Russian, somewhat anti-EU and somewhat anti-American.

Too much nonsense about puppets this and puppets that. Tadic, Nikolic, Dacic...all the same sh*t. Serbian Kosova policy of slowing down recognitions and blocking its progress will stay the same. Serbia doesn't have a leader strong enough to do what they need to do which is to recognize it. With respect to Kosova..nothing will change. However, it will be interesting to see what Nikolic does and doesn't do for Serbia. The problem with him is that nobody in this world trusts him so you can count on him not making any big plays during his term because nobody will work with him. The world will essentially ignore him until the next president is elected. And if I have to hear about how Russia is going to save Serbia one more time I will barf. Russia cannot even help their own satellite states and neighbors let alone Serbia. Serbs might as well pull out their old calenders from the 90's, blow of the dust and hang them up on the wall. Get ready for "tough" speeches and grandstanding. Thats all this man Nikolic knows how to do. Nikolic was a grave digger for years, little do Serbs know that his biggest grave is the one that he is going to put Serbia into.

Nicolic and Milosevic and Sesel have many things common. I don’t understand how Serbs can believe his rhetoric’s and vote for a person like him. He is a nationalist that is far away in touch of reality. Nikolic would hurt Serbia and help Kosova in long as did Milosevic. The worst enemies for Serbs are not Albanians but their own people. Serbia- didn’t you learned from your past? Every nation deserves the leaders they elect and don’t blame your neighbors for your "innocent" mistakes. mistakes.

What in the world happened? Haven't we suffered enough? What are we thinking? When will we elect someone who will get us Serbians out of this misery that we have been for a very long time? How much longer can we go on without having a good solid leader in Serbia? Does anyone care anymore? My dear Serbians, we need to find a way out of it, and we need to do it quickly. Time is running out, as our neighbors are moving forward, were doing the opposite. Our Dinars have hit all time low. Our economy is destroyed due to selfish corrupted leaders. I don't wanna hear it from any of my fellow Serbians trying to reverse this comment, and tell me I am not a Serbian. YES I AM, I AM A SERBIAN THAT F****** CARES.

Lastly after Nikolic's complimentary comments about Tadic, a DS / SNS government cannot be ruled out, as it was previously. The only good thing about that in my view is that it would mean SPS would be out. On the other hand SPS in opposition would make them the largest opposition party and virtually guarantee challenging for first place in the next general election...
(bganon, 20 May 2012 23:11)

This part would be the best result for Serbia. While Tomo's end cleans up corruption and guarantees the Kosovo fight, Tadic's end keeps on reaching European standards and guarantees that path. I would even add the DSS as they have a great economic record and have huge pull with the established diaspora in the West. DSS brings Western and diaspora investments, Tomo cuts out waste, corruption and bureaucracy and DS keeps up the EU standards. Three parties one plan each playing their strengths.

Something people should bear in mind. This victory by Nikolic could mean that Dacic could go back on his deal with Tadic and form a government with SNS.

Dacic would have an alibi in claiming that he is respecting the will of the people. Expect Dacic to extract maximum concessions from whoever he deals with. Turns out that the real winner of this presidential race, much like the real winner of the general election, is one Ivica Dacic.

President Tomislav Nikolic and Prime Minister Dacic kind of has a retro(grade) feel to it. And somehow it really does make me laugh.

Considering how many parties and politicians associated with the current dismal economic situation have recently lost elections, I suppose this outcome was predictable. (Not by me - I always vote "Don't have a clue" in online polls about other people's election.) It could be an interesting time: Nikolic will have the freedom to make certain changes that Tadic and certainly Jovanovic - never would have - he'll be supported by all those people who owe their new jobs to him, plus the Preokret people and some of DS who want to focus on the economy and are willing to remain silent on "protecting Kosovo." Or he could go back to his Radical roots. For a take on how the rest of the world views the situation (no matter how polite the leaders are to a newly-elected president), keep an eye on the dinar/EU rate. (It was wise of Jeremic to start looking for a new job, it turns out.)

Uh-oh, it was about to chose an unknown way led by someone with rather suspicious record versus a way going 100% down the tube and provenly wrong. Not a terrific choice. Wait and see. To me it's something like in Ukraina: the loser Yuschenko led by his American wifey versus an ex-criminal Yanukovich who claims to be pro-Russian at the "right" moment - but turns out to be somewhat anti-Russian, somewhat anti-EU and somewhat anti-American.

Would be I Ukrainian I would just hang both, tossing the coin who would hang higher.
