former stronghold of an etnihc Albanian militia. It's a social club! Dang, Mr. Corleone, how many times do we have to tell them cafones this?Seriously, I've always been amused by those cache layouts the police make, whether of drugs, ordnance, weaponry, or whatever other contraband they seize. All on a new, clean dropcloth, in neat, measured rows, in a way they would've never been placed by their previous owners. You can tell they got the prior military service guy to do it, since it has "C.I. Inspection" written all over the layout. I don't envy the guy who had to pick up and put down all those splodies and not drop or kick any of them.

"Economically speaking, the creation and maintaining of 'independent' micro states is wasteful.

(Comm. Parrisson, 19 May 2012 12:20) "

True enough, and that's one reason that the West wanted Yugoslavia to stay together. There's a recent book out - "The Hour of Europe: Western Powers and the Breakup of Yugoslavia" - extensive review at http://greatersurbiton.wordpress.com/) - about how Europe tried for years to keep Yugo together. (They were mainly worried about the bad example it would set for the USSR, where they were terrified by the idea of all those potentially independent countries with control over nuclear weapons.)

European diplomacy simply wasn't up to the job, and for much of the time, the U.S. had its attention elsewhere (the first Gulf War, for example) and was more than willing to let Europe have "its hour" in the Balkans and demonstrate that the EU could handle a European problem.

Why end there? Economically speaking, the creation and maintaining of 'independent' micro states is wasteful. This goes for Montenegro (with less than 1 mio population) and especially for Kosovo which claims to be 'independent', but has no economy and couldn't survive without external money flowing in(coming from international donors and expatriates and last but not least from the local spending of international organizations)
(Comm. Parrisson, 19 May 2012 12:20)

-- You mean like Luxenburg or like Greece?

"Economically speaking, this is a sensible move - writing and printing two series of textbooks for two small populations is wasteful."

one of the oldest nations? where are those glorious Albanian artifacts? during my tour to KiM I saw none...and your society is crime-infested ! physical evidence supports Serbs`claim over this currently not so nice piece of land because Albanian muslims have loaded it with garbage and donkeys.

"I think Albania and Kosova should be marged because Albanians are one of the oldest nations in the Balkan peninsula."

Joe

I agree! In fact, Albania is so old that they are still stuck in middevil times.

Seriously, I think one Albania is more then enough. Two Albanias would mean more poverty, drugtrade, human trafficing and more donkeyriding hillbillies.

Economically speaking, this is a sensible move - writing and printing two series of textbooks for two small populations is wasteful. (I think the idea is eventually to produce most textbooks in a single version.) It will also help Serbia, which has problems providing Albanian-language schoolbooks for the towns in South Serbia, to the point where parents have to go to Kosovo or Albania to find something their kids can study from.

A common Serbian primer already exists. A common Albanian primer has existed since before 1981. Textbooks aren't going to change borders :)

The US and EU have created another monster that they will eventually need to put down, just like Saddam in Iraq, also the mujahudeen(Taliban) in Afghanistan when they fought the USSR.
