Wise words. Unfortunately, Albanians prefer to believe that the 'freedom fighters' of the KLA 'liberated' them, just like some Serbs think Milosevic is a 'Serbian hero' who did so much good things for the Serbs and protected them.
(Comm. Parrisson, 15 May 2012 10:40)

Not sure about the Serbs, but I think most Albanians believe that NATO liberated them...

"If the Albanians could look at the situation without emotion they would see that they should actually call the country Kosovo 1244, with pride. Because it is the symbol that says the whole world is behind you in ending the oppression you were under as part of Serbia!"

Hey, I think 'Kosovo 1244' is a name even the Serbs would have preferred over 'Kosovo*' for the regional representation :)

UN run Kosovo even if there would be zero UN personell. Why do you think that the independence proponents has tried to change it?
(Staff, 14 May 2012 19:37)

That’s not true… the proponents of independence have always maintained that Kosovo’s UDI is in accordance with 1244 and it was also confirmed by the ICJ.

No Agim, Kosovo is no more independent than my back yard
(Staff, 14 May 2012 19:37)

The point is, as you recognize yourself, that Kosovo is independent from Serbia (i.e. according to you Serbia does not run Kosovo – UNMIK does). You want to say that Kosovo is not independent from UN ? That’s fine – no objection to 16 UNMIK employees running Kosovo :)

Maybe that's the reason, or the reason is a a little hint for the people who prefer to live in a dream world and claim that there's no UNMIK/UN1244 any more and to bring them back to reality.
(Comm. Parrisson, 14 May 2012 15:33)

Absolutely... the reality is that UNMIK/UN1244 are very much alive and UNMIK regulations which mandate the collection of customs taxes at Kosovo's crossings are the Law in Kosovo even though some people, as you correctly observed, dream otherwise.

Kosovo is under 1244, but unfortunately like so many Serbs you have never read 1244 and believe what you have been told that 1244 forever locks Kosovo into Serbia.
1244 is a map of developing Kosovo into a self governing society. It does not predispose the final status of Kosovo and leaves that open. The one thing it does insure is that through democracy Kosovo shall self rule, and all authorities mandated to UNMIK in the beginning are to be turned over as most have been to the elected government of Kosovo. In that respect most of UNMIK job is done as the civilian presence of Kosovo.
The security sector of 1244 will undoubtably remain the responsibility of Kfor (NATO) until the UNSC decides otherwise at which time it will most likely still be a NATO protected country.
1244 is actually a wonderful thing, the problem is the balkan mentality of if Albanians like it Serbs hate it and if Serbs like it Albanians hate it. Because someone has convinced the uneducated in Serbia that 1244 says Kosovo is Serbia the Serbs run around waiving its banner even though it is a document specifically removing all control of Kosovo from Serbia.
Since Independent Kosovo is just saying that Kosovo is independent of Serbia, 1244 is the process that actually did 90% of the work. They removed the military, police, economical and political control that Serbia had on Kosovo and is the document that keeps Serbia from regaining it. If the Albanians could look at the situation without emotion they would see that they should actually call the country Kosovo 1244, with pride. Because it is the symbol that says the whole world is behind you in ending the oppression you were under as part of Serbia!

Serbia will continue to struggle until the end of days and never give up. Some independence proponents think that EU will change Serbia. This will never happen. EU is falling apart and it will last for another 5-6 years depending how fast Italy goes down like Greece.
(Staff, 14 May 2012 19:37)

Staff keep on struggling no one is stooping you to do that.

#1 If Eu falls it will be even worst for Serbia with no grants coming I will tell you will have a hard time to survive and you do get lots and lots of it.

#2 No one expects Serbia to change its wolf in sheep clothing, even if you join EU.

#3 Is this same type of prediction as you had that Serbia will win ICJ from a special source :)

-----------------
My opinion K-Albanins need to start talking to Kosovo North and see how they can come to a suitable solution what ever that could be in line with their goals ( Serbs in north do not want to join Serbia regardles what they say as they know that moment they join Gravy train is over they will be a small village in Serbia they like to keep getting double salary from Serbia + Kosovo one).

Serbs south have accepted reality and we are talking for 40K people ( half city and 3 villages) I do not understand why Kosovo Government does not cut the court and let them go let them Join Serbia but no more Athisary plan for south and those churches you will need a visa to come and visit.

Right now you have an office in Prishtian with handful of UNMIK civilian workers doing nothing, as well as one small office in Northern Mitro, and that is IT.
(Agim Kelmendi, 14 May 2012 17:33)

Well Agim, there is a catch here, a big catch. Kosovo, if you or me like it or not, is run by UNSCR 1244. Its the father, son and the holy ghost of Kosovo. Ask any diplomat or world leader. One can pretend, dislike, even hate it, but fact matters. UN run Kosovo even if there would be zero UN personell. Why do you think that the independence proponents has tried to change it? Why do you think Kosovo is discussed every third month in UN? Why do you think so many decisions are changed to your suprise after your government has decided something (almost every week)?
Why do you think Eulex is working under res 1244?
No Agim, Kosovo is no more independent than my back yard. Its one thing to think, hope or pretend, but you know by now Agim that Kosovo will never be a country of its own like normal countries. Its to sensitive and as far as I understand it, Serbia will continue to struggle until the end of days and never give up. Some independence proponents think that EU will change Serbia. This will never happen. EU is falling apart and it will last for another 5-6 years depending how fast Italy goes down like Greece.

Could be or to remind those who are running around with the banner of 1244, what 1244 actually means that Kosovo is out of the hands of SErbia. He also lists the number of UNMIK employees still left, I believe it is 16---Down from over 3600 (alive and well).
I for one never claim that 1244 is not in force, it is the document that keeps the people of Kosovo safe from Serbian oppression and states emphatically that the intention in 1999 was for a status not predetermined which means that it was never the purpose of 1244 that Kosovo was to always be a part of Serbia, however, it did not rule out that as an option either.
While as long as there is no agreement in UNSC, NATO has the mandate to protect Kosovo, Serbia cannot bring their forces in, unless they get permission, and UNMIK can per mandate continue to turn authorities over to the govt of Kosovo. And also note no where does it say that status and the ending of 1244 mandate are in any way tied together.

"If the Albanians could look at the situation without emotion they would see that they should actually call the country Kosovo 1244, with pride. Because it is the symbol that says the whole world is behind you in ending the oppression you were under as part of Serbia!"

Wise words. Unfortunately, Albanians prefer to believe that the 'freedom fighters' of the KLA 'liberated' them, just like some Serbs think Milosevic is a 'Serbian hero' who did so much good things for the Serbs and protected them.

Hey, I think 'Kosovo 1244' is a name even the Serbs would have preferred over 'Kosovo*' for the regional representation :)

Not sure about the Serbs, but I think most Albanians believe that NATO liberated them...
