ida,

Amer is not 100% correct in fact. It is not the ambassador who has written this in its memoirs, it is Jiang Zemin himself. You know, the Chinese leader at the time. you should do a quick Google search and will find more than enough info about this.

Believe or not after the bombing, the guy who "pointed" to the Chinese Embassy as the bombing target left the military right away and, a few years later back in the states, he was found dead one early morning after walking out of his home. I caught the news in newspaper but have not heard if the case had been solved.

"Amer" and "Reader" the claims you mention are from unnamed "sources". "Unnamed" means they can be totally fabricated. It's a totally unproven allegation without named and quoted good sources.

The Chinese ambassador had allowed Serbian military communications facilities to be set up in the building, making it a legal military target: [link]

This story remained a rumor for years, but just last year the ambassador at that time described the event in his memoirs. The Americans called the strike a mistake to avoid having to accuse the Chinese of having abused the privileges of an embassy.

Double standards: if the KLA made Albanian civilian vilages military bases did it make them legal military targets? Was Yashari house a legitimate military target?

There is one question. After the Americans learned the embassy was being used to rebroadcast transmissions to Arkan's paramilitaries in Kosovo, they had at least another choice, they could have told the Chinese: we know, stop using the embassy. Is it possible that they told them but the Chinese did not listen? Or did the Americans just decide to hit the embassy directly, without warning the Chinese(for not appearing too soft, which is not always convenient when in war).

At least NATO/U.S. paid some millions for the damage and deaths. Serbs received nothing for the terror bombing destruction.
It looks like the damaged building has been totally cleared away. Is there going to be something built or rebuilt there now?
