Actually Kalifornija the garbage was dumped there by the Soviet Union first, then China during 50 years of Stalinist regime in Albania. They were going to protect marxism-leninism from the US and CCCP. There is a lot of it from what I hear. Some of it is being dismantled, some of it is being recycled and sold around, say to the Afghani army. It takes a long time to get rid of all this material, which cannot be used in an actual war because it is just very old. What slows things down even more is that some of it can be salvaged and resold in the arms market, sometimes with the help of Serbian friends who have the connections (oh the joys of the non-aligned movement). In Syria for example, check out the wikileaks on the joint Albanian-Serbian arms trafficking venture with Syria as destination. Some of it with the help of other people, like subcontractors of the American army, who take on the job of training the Afghanis and go to Albania to buy the crap of the Russo-Japanese war of 1905 and sell it to the Afghanis. It is a complex world. Now, the KLA could not get its machinery from Zastava and other industrial complexes like the Serbian army, so it had to buy that crappy stuff from Albania. And the incredible part is that it succeeded in its goals.

Yes; nobody denies that imperialist backed terrorism is an effective way to get what you want. The KLA has shown that. Now it is the so called Albanian Army's turn (not the actual Albanian army; the terrorists in Macedonia)

Maybe the stuff from the Russo-Japanese war was ok (sure) but the corroded Chinese stuff that some young genius from Florida thought he could pass off to the Afghans was so bad - despite the new packaging - that it landed him in jail for four years. Selecting contractors on the sole basis of a low bid doesn't always work out so well.

I've read that the disposal operations are supposed to end by 2013 (Jan or Dec?). It seems like they've been at it forever.

Why don't the Albanian authorities clean up and get rid of their dated ordnance, so that innocent people will no longer be injured? I do not understand the priorities of countries at times. Another question, why do the Albanians even have these shells, who were they going to go to war with, and who were they protecting themselves from? Is this possibly old KLA munitions? If so, then the USA should help in eradicating this old ordnance, as they supported the KLA during the Kosovo civil war. Americans have a habit of dumping their weapons garbage, usually dtaed to start with, and then fleeing and letting the matter become a local problem. In my opinion, if you bring your garbage to a game, take it with you when you leave.
