The chorus of "I told you so" coming from Belgrade must be ringing in Sarkozy's ears.

Still trying to cling to that domino effect or pandora's box as you all liked to call it. There have been declarations of independence for hundreds of years and there will be more until the end of time. I don't recall anyone saying in the spirit of Kosovo we declare independence. Try linking the 2 together all you want but no matter how hard you try they are not going to stick, just like as much as Russia tried to tell the world the Georgia provinces were caused by Kosovo no one bought it.
But Sarkozy is right a declaration of independence means nothing if no one recognizes it. Kosovo by the way has enough recognitions that it can function independently of Serbia til the end of time.

Do You Even Know What the Hell You're Talking About?

It is unique, but Kosovo* will be a shining example when it comes to Vojvodina**.
(Berk., 6 April 2012 19:29)

If it ever comes to Vojvodina, which I assure you it won't, I guarantee Kosovo* will anything but a shining example. Even Montenegro or South Sudan would be a better example. At that point, even Northern Epirus or Istria would be a better example.

The Tuaregs have more reason then most groups for declaring independence, they've been marginalised for more then a hundred years, a result of colonialism on the part of France, who first invaded their homelands, and then divided them amongst several artificially created states.

The Tuaregs have launched no less then 5 rebellions against the rule of Colonial France and artificially created Mali. Its quite ironic that its due (at least in part) to the actions of France in Libya that they finally suceeded.

to Sreten: Mali doesn't hate us and doesn't burn our flags. It was Serbia's choice to hate Western Europe and love Russia instead; you could have elected Mr. Draškovič, for instance, had you wished to take a more European path. Mr. Draškovič never got a real chance in Serbia's politics, unlike certain well-known criminals.

Nevertheless, we don't want to be your eternal enemy. Although our views differ when it comes to Kosovo or Bosnia, we support Serbian territorial integrity regarding Raška, Preševo and Vojvodina.

"A unilateral declaration of independence that was not recognised by African states would have no meaning," French Defence Minister Gerard Longuet said on Friday.

Even more: A unilateral declaration of independence has no consequences at all, in general, and especially it doesn't make a territory a state.

Fact. EU will show more consideration towards Mali then Serbia.

Why would that be considering that

1)Nobody has seceded from France.

2)These guys have not made any connection to Kosovo?

As we know, declaring independence is one thing (and legal according to the ICJ) but achieving it is another. Look at "Kosova"* for instance, even with some of the most powerful nations behind it, independence has not been achieved and never will.

Oh, and the "Kosova"* precedent continues. Who was it that said it was a unique case?
