Curious as to why he said this is not against WTO rules, as Russia is not a member (thanks to US veto ability). A very sore spot for Russia.

Russian-made cars: that includes KIA, Chrysler, Renault in cooperation with VAZ or GAZ, except KIA which is just KIA. I personally do not like Chrysler Sebring tough, but we are talking about FREE cars, so for free, please, no problem.

The entire idea started out of Georgia by the way, it is not being told lately very loudly but the Georgian "model" of cracking down on corruption is very much "in" now, at least in Russia and Kazakhstan.

Hint to the travelers.... don't even try to bribe the Georgian highway patrol (GAI) now - for $100 bribe they are risking 10 years in jail and their salary now is $700/month, not $70/month as it used to be.
And if you see sone kind of mix of Lada and Renault on the road or VAZ/Chrysler - that could be very well a bureacrat, the private people use Honda / Lexus / Toyota ;)

I will hopefully verify that in person, but if all the news coming from Georgia (and in tow: Russia and Kazakhstan) are true - that's something Saak did well and wish him more success on that, same to Putin and Nazarbayev if they are serious about corruption.

There is a little area in southern Serbia which shoulf look at that with envy, I guess, grapes are sour in Rahovec valley lately but wine is OK,

They should be made to do that in Serbland too.

Maybe Kostunica will see to it.

At least he would be able to drive in a brand new, modern FIAT 500L - in other countries in the neighborhood (not to mention wannabe-states in the south, too), the officials would have to walk (or go by donkey driven carts) - except for Bosnia, they have Volkswagen ;-)

(John, 5 April 2012 18:42) Good idea they can confiscate all the classic Serb made Yugo cars in Serbia. For the politicians and bureaucrats they will appreciate it driving in a Serb classic http://www.carsuk.net/the-yugo-bites-the-dust/ how wouldn't.

Aelita, your comment is becoming more obsolete every day. Russia is doing just fine, a lot better than where you come from. Just because of your personal reasons for disliking Russians, does not make Russia, or its people bad. Many people around the world dislike Albanians too, for personal reasons. Does that make all Albanians bad?

Putin’s Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has hinted that only the top state officials will be exempted from the decision because Russia still does not produce cars that could meet the highest security standards. Ha ha dictator Putin what a joke must of had his KGB advisers come up with that one only took years to come up with that policy. High state officials exempt another joke what will happen is the Russian made cars will be parked gathering rust. Until the good cars are run into the ground when their is no choice they will call for Mercedes taxis etc. Like the former Warsaw pact countries joke ,What do the Russians use to visit their friends in? In tanks!

"Putin’s Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has hinted that only the top state officials will be exempted from the decision because Russia still does not produce cars that could meet the highest security standards."

Translated: Putin can still drive (or be driven) in a Mercedes Benz, mayors of smaller towns have to go with Lada (or GAZ Volga like in communist times - do they still exist at all?)
