Zeena, such as Croats, Serbs, Albanians, Macedonians, Bosnians....? Where do you draw the line? Islam? France is a secularised country. Religion does not really matter. Only because you are a muslim, christ, satanist, atheist, orthodox does not make a good or bad human out of you.

Zeena

Bravo!!! I hope he can do it in spite of all the PC fever that is sweeping Europe and is destroying it. There is a certain group of immigrants that should not be allowed in France and the west in general.

This story really doesn't say enough about what his concerns are. I am wondering if there are problems like London, where the Muslim groups are so radical that there are some places the London police won't go. There is not enough detail to know what the real issue is.

"The problem with France is that there are too many French." The country's already lost its historic blue-eyed identity to Islam.

I see that many Serbs here have no connection with Kosovo, and know the history of Kosovo from dinners with their grandparents, that also have no connection with Kosovo. For historical correctness I will explain to you that from a century the only immigrants in Kosovo are Serb settlers that have been set during Yugoslavia time. From Kosovo itself has gone Albanian people to Albania, Turkey, EU and USA. After 1999 from Kosova have gone Serbs people to Serbia and other places. This is a short and correct story of Kosovo immigration from 1912 till know.

If you are born on French soil, you become directly the French citizenship and access to the social services.
(Observer, 8 March 2012 02:05)

Wrong.

As part of Sarkozy's racist agenda, it is extremely challenging to keep your identity papers & access social services in France if your parents were not born in France proper, regardless of whether you were born in France or not.

To Lowe: I'm pretty sure he talks about non-EU immigrants. First, it is not possible to regulate any intra-EU migration (the "Four Freedoms" - one of them being the free movement of labour). Second, EU immigrants usually integrate, learn the language and they are usually well educated and skilled and do not cause problems (at least not more than the French.. ;) ).

While reporting about the Roma, something is often left out, although I think it does not really justify the actions the French government took: If you are born on French soil, you become directly the French citizenship and access to the social services. No surprise that thousands of Roma moved to France after the borders were more or less opened... A sad and complicated story...

Nevertheless, I think France should show responsibility for immigrants from its former colonies. Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK(?), Portugal(?) do that as well and Germany paid and still pays a lot to victims of WWII.

Sarkozy has also made it extremely difficult for Algerians, Moroccans, Senegalese et al to retain French citizenship even if they were BORN in France.

If your parents were not born in FRANCE then you are not entitled to citizenship. Even if you were BORN in France you still have a huge challenge to renew your identity papers.

French ruled the government of many of these poor African countries.

Sarkozy is a fascist racist pig. I hope he rots in hell. He has short man syndrome.

I cannot believe he is saying all of this when his parents migrated from Hungary.

How can he get away with all of this?

He is losing in the polls anyway so hopefully he does not win the next leadership challenge.

I can't believe an older ally of Serbia recognised Kosovo as independent.

I can't wait for territorial disputes in French, German, American regions... I will give so much of my energy to recognising them just so these fascists can realise their double standard biased agendas.

Ding dong the witch is dead, the witch is dead - kind of reminds me when they got rid of the wicked in "The Wizard of Oz". Sarkozy is certainly not a wizard, as much as he would like us to believe. He is a high-heel wearing, megalomaniac, Romanian immigrant's son, that tried to bring France into his own fold - but it is too late for that. France is clearly a multi-national dominated country, growing more multi-national than the original old Frenchmen. Soon Frenchmen, will be a minority in their own country. But who is to say that a Senegalese, is less French than the real French? These are all questions that should have been asked, before imperialism took place. I am happy to see the questions imperialists never asked, come back to haunt them. Senegal is France, I say. And is Kosovo really an Albanian State? Come on imperialists, learn your lesson.
