Fortunately there are also Serbs who do not think like you. I agree that many have been mislead the way you have been.

I have not got the story all wrong. I was there - were you?! I don't need to 'study' hyper-inflation; I experienced the freshly printed dinars on street corners. Someone close to us committed suicide because of being bankrupted by the raids on bank deposits - I don't blame the west for that, I blame the wicked politics and mafia mentality of Milosevic.

Maybe you should also add an adaptive and open mind to your 'research' and not get suckered into the kind of propaganda I saw so much of in the Milosevic era. Things were not the way you like to think they were.

If you antagonise the west it is no surprise if they don't want to go along with your way of thinking. Milosevic and the 'nationalist' cause have been a diplomatic disaster for Serbia. Why should anyone go along with the kind of thinking and action done by 'nationalistic' Serbs? No one is obliged to agree with it, and maybe the attitude you display acts as an positive incentive for the west to wind you up a bit, spoil your predjudices and wreck your ambitions. That's if they could even find any reason to bother giving your concerns any thought at all.

Consider me a kind person - at least I am prepared to bother arguing with you about it!

Fortunately Tadic has now moved Serbia to a position where it is just beginning to win respect again after the disaster of Milosevic's abuse of Serbian politics.

Bob,

You got the story all wrong. It was all the other way around.

Did you ever study hyperinflation?

Do you have any links to court documents and their rulings?

You use the term "nationalistics" so loosely that it probably covers most of the Serb population.

It's not just nationalism but it's about finding the facts with diligent research. Serbs are not so naive to just believe something they see once on the news or hear from a journalist.

This is the problem the West have with Serbs. Many like to label them as nationalistic aggressors just because they do not believe so easily.

It is a sign of intelligence. Inquisitive people who do not make their minds up from hearing one side of the story.

Your long posts with your 'recounts' of history do not serve their intended purpose.

You think a few words from you are going to change people's minds? The thing is, we've all heard it all before. If we didn't agree then, why would we agree now?

I apologise for my ignorance - it is surpassed only by your own. As for your rudeness, I shall reciprocate by saying that maybe one day you may have matured enough for someone to observe that you have grown up at last.

The inflation was a way of stealing money from Serbs. If it was caused by the west, how come it was so easily stopped instantaneously by a change of policy through the introduction of the new dinar? The answer was that inflation had stolen as much as it could from Serbs and so Serbia was returned to a more workable form of economy and to other forms of corruption.

Milosevic planned a war in Bosnia and equipped forces with weapons from a very early stage. The west had no obligation to support him in that policy and had every right to try to stop him by using sanctions against his agressions. The sanctions were to try to stop the murders - of course murders were not an issue that ever had much importance to nasty selfish nationalists.

Money was also stolen from Serbs through the loss of their bank deposits. Also, it was stolen through mafias that included the Milosevic family.

Your narrow defense of Milosevic and antagonism against the west is typical of a certain type of nationalistic Serb who I know well and have little regard for. Your kind of antagonism helped cause the loss of Kosovo - it made enemies instead of winning support. It gained no sympathy in the west because it gave so litte value to the lives of innocents. So why should I (or anyone) care for what you think? Why should the west be expected to go along with your attitude? It would be stupid if it did.

Serbia will be better off without those attitudes

Tadic's constructive policies give much more hope than the destructive policies of the past.

Of course Serbs deserve being in EU because they live in Europe...

Mr. Tadic is not in touch with reality. There was no referendum in Serbia to approve any moves towards the EU. His political party will for sure be marginalized in the next elections, with or without this bid. He has led the most corrupt government that Serbia had ever had, followed with total economic collapse and brain drain unseen even in the darkest times of Milosevic's rule. During his mandate he managed to take billions of dollars in foreign credits, with unsure way to pay them off as there is no production capacity in the country. People are outraged to the level that even the show with EU flags that were put around Belgrade had to be under heavy police protection. And this is just a tip of the iceberg: totally corrupt police, there is no rule of law, Serbia lost 5% of its population in the past 10 years, etc.

It is highly unlikely that Tadic or his party will be on power, and it is even less likely that most of his ministers will not be put on trial for money laundering. People know that candidacy for the EU doesn't mean anything, and in this situation it is best for Serbia to stay away from this union of bankrupt countries.

You've done nothing but filled your pockets with dirty money! Tadic says he's European and so is Serbia, so why is Serbia amongst the most corrupt countries in the world?! Your ignorance knows no limits.. Milosevic had nothing to do with the "inlflation".. It was the sanctions and the corrupt US backed politicans who worked to undermine Serbia in the 90s(terrible privatizations)

But even under the sanctions the poor were taken care of better than they are today.

Bob

It has been a hard slog to recover Serbia from the mess that nationalism and wars left it in. Real people want to get on with their lives and enjoy their families - flirtations with nationalist rhetoric are transients in comparison with the pragmatics of everyday living. Things are much better now than they were in the Milosevic era - that time is now past and Serbia can begin to be a country that takes its place in the world instead of getting every bodys' backs up.

Tadić was insulted by Merkel last summer, but his cool and political determination has achieved a goal that is definitely a commendation of his policies. Despite the problems inherited from the Milosevic era combined with the current period in which there is a difficult world economic climate, Tadić has managed to achieve something that will bring more opportunity to Serbia than has been the case for a very long time.

All that is needed now is determination to keep the economy in order. I don't expect the vast inflations that Milosevic imposed on Serbs, I don't expect the comfortable but unproductive socialism of the Tito era, nor do I expect the vast politically motivated and lax over-spend that was the case in Greece.

The EU, despite the mistakes of the way in which the Euro was introduced, will see its way through the current crisis. Europe is a big and powerful entity, and despite the problems and the inevitable learning curve, it will continue to be possibly the most significant trading block in the world.

Serbia will gain and not suffer by its close association with the EU.

Congratulations to Tadić for his substantial contribution to Serbia's progress.
